To keep me working for them, my company gave me stocks that have vested over the years and I've used that "free" money to buy stocks I want. I look at it like playing with the casino's money. I have stocks in biotech, AI/data storage, nuclear, quantum computing, one eVTOL and one electric charging that took a dive. I wish I'd jumped on Crowdstrike when their update dropped their stock $120. Everything I have is a long term fingers crossed, but if it doesn't pan out I'm not really out anything either.

With a budget of $1k, I suggest a Nightforce SHV 4-14. Depending on which options you get, Eurooptic has them for as low as $750. They may have a nicer blem model for that price range if you check regularly. I have one of their NX8's but if I get another rifle for hunting I wouldn't hesitate to get a SHV.

There are several running around my part of town. I passed a blue one a few months ago. It looked like it was built from Legos.

Maybe it had toxoplasmosis which would make it exhibit odd behavior including lack of fear of a predator

I have the X Ultra 3's wide in a low top. I've used them for trail running and hiking. They work great, even grip well in water / wet rocks. I've read the 4's had a slight design change and are a little bit tighter than the 3's so you might try to find a pair of 3's to try also.

Over the years I've used Merrells, Vasque and Salomons. My wife has used Salomons and Oboz. The Vasque were a little too stiff for me. My Merrell's feel like hiking boots and have good traction and support. My Salomons are like wearing tennis shoes. They are lightweight, great support and awesome traction, even in water. If you have wide feet their selection is limited.
