Reloading Powder Selection & Ordering
musicman replied to kckndrgn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I agree that once you find something you like that consolidation is great, but can I ask something of you guys? (and I SERIOUSLY don't mean this as a flame of any sort, or questioning you and your choices at all, I just am curious) Did you just start with those couple powders you have now, and that's all you've ever used, or did you try a number of different things and then settled on what you like? -
Reloading Powder Selection & Ordering
musicman replied to kckndrgn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I wouldn't try to consolidate as you're starting up. I wouldn't buy 30 different powders either, but don't limit yourself from the get-go. Titegroup is a great powder, but not a one-trick pony either. I'd try a can of the Accurate powders as well, maybe #5 would be a good one for mid-range loads in those handgun powders. If you're ordering them and having them shipped, buy whatever you may think to try to help spread out the haz-mat fees. Now that I've tried about 20 powders in my revolver loads I've settled on 4-5 favorites (some for velocity, some for plinking, and then I like some with lead bullets and other with jacketed) that I stock up on, but whenever I try a new bullet it's nice to have the other stuff there to toy with. There are some guys who only use one powder for al their handgun stuff though, so you can just toss my advice out the window if you like, too! There are so many combinations and variables that everybody has their favorites. One tip: to avoid confusion with powders, keep them stored AWAY from your bench and only have ONE out at a time. Keep that can on the benchtop. When you are done with that powder, PUT IT AWAY before you pick up another can! I NEVER have more than 1 can on my bench at a time. Sure has saved a lot of confusion! -

PMing a reply in a minute... -
even before I got into guns! I started listening to Weird Al when I was about 12 and I should have known I'd be a gun by how many times I listened to this song over and over again! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI02dVqo6iE[/ame] (I don't think this song had a music video, so pardon this goober version I found)

Yea, that DID cross my mind. Exactly what is required and nothing more... whatever. I'm just glad nothing bad happened.

That's cool! Yea, did I miss a thread on this before asking for donations?

*FINAL UPDATE* (I hope!) I just got back from there with an electrician... all it was was a stinkin' loose connection on the left leg of the breaker out of the meter! It sparked like a sunnuvagun when he jiggled the cables. I'm very thankful that this is all it was, and that I had no expensive parts to buy. He's also a general handyman and is going to fix one other little thing over there and then give me the bill. I'm doubting it'll be even close to $100. Thanks for all the input, guys!

Taking the Class this week at Uselton in Franklin
musicman replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
+1 to the other guys. Go somewhere else. Check out CIS or some of the other schools/shops that offer the class here. These are the good guys, and the ones you want to build a relationship with. -
'Nuther update: The power co. came out and checked the meter and said everything is fine up to there. So... the problem is still not fixed. I can't believe how hard it is to get hold of an electrician! I've called at least 8 now and have only actually spoken to one who is about an hour away and can't get to me for a couple days. I have a friend who has a brother-in-law who runs a major HVAC company and he's trying to get his electrician out there, but that's slow going, too. I sure hope my place doesn't burn down before I can get this stuff fixed!
-
Unfortunately, it isn't the power company's resonsibility this time. Mine is a townhouse and they only provide the main service. Once it gets split up at the meters, you're on your own. If everyone was having the same problem it would be the power co, but they aren't.
-
Well, if any of you guys know an electrician in the area that wouldn't mind swinging by to look at it that would be awesome! I'm out of ideas at this point.

Ugh. It's back. I've got the breakers for the AC turned off and I'll be calling an electrician in the morning. Lights are dim, yadda yadda yadda... this is going to be a bad week.
-
hahaha! No it doesn't! I'm very thankful for that!

*UPDATE* All fixed!! Just throwing that main switch at the meter fixed it. I guess one of the mains had tripped, but you couldn't tell by looking at the switches (they were joined, and both in the "on" position) Thanks again guys!

Thanks guys!! that's what I'm hearing, is that I'm losing one of my incoming lines. I call MTEMC and he told me to go to my meter and check for heat (poor connection) and if that's not the case, throw the power off and then back on, as half of it may have tripped. This is about 10 min from my house, so I'm heading out now. I'll let you all know how it goes when I get back. Thanks!

Hey Guys and Gals, I have a townhouse that I rent out (anyone wanna buy one?) and I get a call about 11:30 last night from my renters that the electricity is going nuts. The second bedroom has no juice, half of the living room is out, the lights in the kitchen are flickering, the A/C sounds weird (the unit outside), and the only thing that has power in the kitchen is the microwave. Ugh! I ask if he had checked the breaker box, and he said he did and that nothing had tripped. I asked if he reset them all and he said no, so I had him do that. No change. Well, at this point I'm worried about their food in the fridge, so I aked if he had an extension cord of a high enough rating and length to go from the Microwave outlet to the fridge. Being the somehwat sissy guy I know him to be, he didn't. I grabbed one of mine and headed down there. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I turned on the lights in the laundry room for a minute and they kind of flickered and made a funny noise, and I turned them off. I tried to turn them back on and they were dead. While I'm doing that, he tells me that the digital clock on the stove just turned on for a minute, but went back out. I have no clue what's going on here. I tried taking light bulbs from fixtures that were on and working and putting them in the others that weren't and they were all a no-go. I can't tell if this was some kind of surge damage or what. (No storms or other irregularities in the area yesterday) Now get this... all of last night the power in the master bedroom, master bath, and the respective closets was unaffected. This morning, in the middle of getting ready for church, the power in the master suite died, and now they've got juice in some of the downstairs area where they didn't have power last night!!! AAAUUUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! I'm no electrician, mechanic, or genius, but this seems crazy to me. I reset all breakers 3x while I was there. I cannot for the life of me figure out how power is jumping from circuit to circuit there. Do any of you guys have experience with something like this, and do you know anybody in the Rutherford area that can help? Thanks!

Get off at the Providence/Mt Juliet exit and go north REALLY far.... like 400 feet... and it's on your right just before Arby's.

RW, I'll give you a call in the morning, thanks! RD, desktop. Thanks for your willingness to help!

Well that sounds good. But what still get me everytime I hear about a nice long sentencing is that now taxpayers have to come up with what... $35-$50k per year to keep his sorry behind in jail. Even with the cost of ammo at record highs, .357 Magnums are still VERY cheap in comparison!

I am in desperate need of some PC2700 RAM. I have two computers at my office and I had to donate the RAM from one to it's brother, so now I've got one box that isn't running. I'm looking for some REALLY cheap (cough..cough... free even? cough cough!) sticks of RAM. I NEED at least two sticks of 256mb ea. I'd LIKE 4-6 sticks of 512mb or 2 sticks of 1g, but I know beggars can't be choosers. So if you've got that old box lying in the corner doing you no good, yank the RAM out and give it to me, and then you'll have yourself some nice target practice! I'll drive anywhere in Rutherford Co or Southeast Davidson. Thanks guys and gals!

I know exactly which shop, and exactly which two rifles you are talking about. Yea, they thought I broke one when I pulled the bolt out to inspect the bore... morons. That place is a joke. SOG has them in qty (3 or more) for $60 each right now. I almost want to buy a couple, then take them in to pawn them and ask for like $150 and say "Look, you're selling them for $350!!! C'mon! This should be a no-brainer for you!" Just to razz them a bit.

Alaska was a no-brainer, but check out Oklahoma! The only state in the union that has it right across the board! -
HA!!! That's awesome, Joe!! Was it seriously like that every time you walked by? I'm glad folks are recognizing what a tool this creep is!
