  1. Wow, that's really nice! Still, is there actually a store front for him somewhere?
  2. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out if I can buy supplies outside of a gunshow from David or Sam. Tell me more about the shop on 4th ave that was mentioned. Regular hours? Traditional storefront? I don't really want to spend $8-10 on a gunshow ticket just to buy supplies. That's half a pound of powder!
  3. It's like a grab bag of bullet-flingin' goodness!!! Enjoy 'em! :-)
  4. I went today. He was there today, too, but I didn't get to see him.
  5. Ditto the other dudes. No issues shooting lead in traditionally rifled barrels. I use lead, jacketed, and plated bullets of all types in bottom-feeders and wheelies all the time. Depending on your loads, you'll probably get a little leading in a longer range session, but that's no big deal and cleans up easily. Just out of paranoia, if I am going to be shooting mixed ammo in a single range session, I shoot the jacketed stuff first, as I don't want to have a mildly leaded barrel and THEN shoot jacketed stuff through that. Copper doesn't give and slide like lead. I've not seen any cases of damage due to that, but it just makes sense to me so I'm probably a bit over-cautious. I usually have a bore brush with me though, so sometimes I'll give a hot scrub and go back and forth like that. Start loading, you'll love it! There's no way I could enjoy my .44 mag as much as I do without reloading.
  6. Beautiful pair!! I'm a Smith & Wesson revolver man myself. Love that 686!!!
  7. Oh, I wish I could visit with the Dillons! I'm working up to that.... maybe next spring. I'd about fall out if I could make enough ammo for multiple range trips in one session!
  8. Very nice knife! In my absence from the gun hobby for a couple years, I've gotten into nicer pocket knives. Now I rotate between two Kershaws and a SOG, all USA made tools. I'll be going to Gatlinburg this weekend and plan on stopping at SMKW and adding another to the rotation. :-D

  10. Dude... go play one. Awesomeness. And killer in that Pelham blue with cream binding! If they wouldn't notice it sticking out of my backpack, I'd take one home with me!
  11. The raid was in September (I think... I started on Jan 3rd this year) and we had rosewood by mid-summer. We are continuing with the richlite fretboards on the Midtown custom and standard with humbuckers. They feel great!!! The new Midtowns with P90s have rosewood.
  12. I want Romney (of the two) but I think we'll end up with this same buttwad again.
  13. Well, I haven't seen any confiscated stuff come back to us, but I'm just a peon and don't get daily briefings. :-) However, we do have rosewood fretboards again. We've had rosewood back since early in the year anyways. I know there was a strong negative reaction in the marketplace to the torified maple fretboards, but I actually like some of them... a lot! But that may be because I'm kind of a Fender Tele guy at heart. (Don't tell that to my new PRS SE semi-hollow! I love that thing!!)
  14. I feel like I'm new to the forum all over again, having been away a few years. I'm stoked to see all the new shops and vendors we have, and super excited for a new range in Nashville that's pretty close to my current place of employment! In the next few weeks I plan on purchasing a membership to an indoor range. I was a member at On Target back in 2006-2008, but am not necessarily set on re-upping there. A few days ago I first saw The Armory's site and was really excited about it! Everything online seems to point to a great facility and store, and I'm sure that's true. Today, however, I saw this thread. I am a reloader. First, it was out of just wanting to jump further into the hobby, but it's also a point of economics for me. When I go shooting, I go through a LOT of ammo, and mostly magnums. That $35 box of .44 mags I make for around $11... less if I go plain lead. I am honestly quite disheartened that my ammo cannot be used at The Armory. I sold insurance in a former life, and I know how ridiculous the restrictions these companies put on their policyholders can be. I COMPLETELY understand their situation and have utmost respect for the owners, especially the incredible genuiness and outstanding commitment to customer satisfaction they are already showing through their offer. That is so far above and beyond the gold standard of customer service it's basically insane! I plan to visit and try out the range next week some time. Part of me is hoping I will love the place so much that I will do whatever I have to do to join and buy factory ammo, I just hope my wallet (and wife) don't put the kibosh on the whole thing. Pretty much OT... in my guesstimation I've loaded about 15,000 rounds so far. The only ammo related problem I've ever had was a remanufactured .223 from UltraMax, purchased at Dick's sporting goods in Rivergate that literally blew my AR apart. They claimed responsibilty and replaced the gun. Thankfully no one was hurt.
  15. PURE AWESOMENESS! Gosh... I'm trying to EEAAASSSSEEE back into this addictio... er... hobby, and you go posting these shenanigans on the interwebz for impressionable minds like mine to see! How inconsiderate!
  16. Yup. I spent about an hour with Dr. Lee tonight. ;-) I forgot how much I enjoy my time cranking away on my Lee turret press. I know, it's nothing fancy, but it works for me. I loaded up some simple 38 wadcutters and had a great time out in the garage. What a great way to spend part of my birthday! Wifey got me a S&W M&P 40 over the weekend to celebrate my 30th, too! I haven't had a 40 in over 8 years and I'm about out of components for that caliber, so I'm gunna try to hit up the Reloader's Bench before the end of the week. I love this hobby!!
  17. Thanks folks! Gibson is OK. Like any place, there are tons of politics and bullcrap to put up with, but the work isn't bad. I mean... we flippin' make guitars! But you don't sit around and play all day, it's a fast-paced environment. Unless you are an adjuster or final QC, you don't get to play them at all.
  18. So I've been gone from the forum for a couple years now and haven't gone shooting more than once or twice a year since about 2008 due to personal finances being in the toilet and whatnot, but I feel like we're finally coming out of that awful hole. Debt is gone, we're able to save a good bit, and I'm very thankful that God has honored my wife and I with our own little economic recovery for now. I have been working at Gibson USA in Nashville since the beginning of the year and it has worked out well. I dig my job most days, and I'm very thankful for the better pay. I've been feeding my guitar addiction mostly, but now am getting back into guns again! Last week I cleaned off my reloading bench and plan to start loading again in the next week or two. I looked in my loading notes and haven't made a round for 3.5 years!! Ummm.... pretty sure every one of you knows what a full size M&P .40 looks like, so I won't bother posting pics. I've missed you guys (well... MOST of you anyways ;-) ) and look forward to taking part in the forum banter again. Maybe we'll see each other at the range again soon!
  19. Don't think I've ever had a flu shot. I get the flu once every 5-6 yrs it seems. I'm actually just over it as of 2 days ago, and me being the generous soul I am, I gave it to my wife! The silver lining here is that we both qualified to take part in a flu study and are getting paid $350 each to keep a journal over 1 week and provide blood samples. I never knew the flu could pay so well! While I am definitely tempted to finally buy myself the M&P .40 I've been fawning over for 4 yrs now, we're gunna use the coin to pay off more stuff. I'm super stoked, cuz that's gunna move us forward like 2 months on our financial plan! I asked them how much for a broken arm and they just stared at me. I was like "Hey, I've got a hammer in the garage, we can do this!" Then they finally started laughing.

  21. Hey guys, Over the last couple years I've been learning different ways to try and save as much money as I can, in every place I can. A few months ago someone shared the site mrrebates.com with me. It's a portal of sorts that you sign up with, then from there simply go about making your online purchase as normal and get anywhere from 1-10% back, sometimes more. They have a few hundred different stores to choose from, including BestBuy, Cabela's, BassPro, Dick's, Sportsman's Guide, Electronic Express, Dell, J&R, Kmart, WalMart, Target, Sears, Home Depot, MusiciansFriend.com, and tons more. The rebates do take awhile to become available, so don't confuse it with a "discount." It literally is an online rebate, just without the hassle of forms and postage stamps! I used mrrebates for some of my Christmas shopping and other various stuff. Some was mail order, but often I simply buy online and pick up in-store, getting me what I want immediately and paying me back a little bit later. I have gotten back about $40 so far, and will have another $30 check in about two weeks. That's enough for a few boxes of ammo, or in my current case, that much more stuff paid off a little faster! Of course you knew it was coming, here's my shameless plug: if you check out mrrebates.com and like it, please use this link Mr. Rebates - Cash-Back Rebate Shopping at over 2000 Stores to give me credit for the referral. I get a little bonus for each one, and would greatly appreciate it. If the linky doesn't work, please put in my e-mail address, musicman556@gmail.com
  22. You all are awesome. Ya know, I bet there isn't this kind of real forgiveness, support, and friendship at some pansy place like a Prius owner's forum! Gun people are the best people. Thank you. I won't stay away for years at a time any more, but I won't yet be a regular poster again. Before getting back into hobbies and othe reckless spending, I am clearing the balance sheet of my household from all debt, excepting our mortgage. Barring any horrible circumstances or events, that may still take 10-14 months. Then, watch out 'cuz I'll be a gun buyin' fool! Not to be too mushy or religious, but I am feeling shades of what God's forgiveness and redemption can be like as I read through you guys' comments. I appreciate you all.
  23. Hello everyone, some of the longtime members may remember me, most of you probably don't. I have been away for a few years, as I have had my butt kicked by finances, etc, through my own poor work ethic and poor time management, as well as a healthy dose of disillusionment. In my fall to reality, joblessness, and then my recovery and continual striving to get back to some sort of normalcy and productiveness, I have made some mistakes. I am finally getting around to trying to make right the things I can. I recently contacted Joe Lundberg of Hero Gear to try to make amends to a situation that I ran out on a few years ago. Joe has forgiven me. I want to publicly thank him, and let everyone know that in a situation where he has every right to demand reparations and condemn me in front of all, he has been the bigger man and has shown kindness, humility, and goodwill. I want all of you to know that. Thank you, James
  24. Cool! Looks exactly like my setup fm my first apartment! (minus the powder thrower, I used a turret press and pro-auto disk) Glad you got around to setting this up! We need to get together again sometime Jason, it's been awhile!!
  25. I like jacketed, but I shoot lead for the most part for economy. Like Mike, I use premium jacketed bullets for high velocity stuff. Also consider plated bullets. They are a great low-cost alternative to jacketed bullets. I used to shoot tons of Berry's plated bullets out of my.40.
