They had pretty much everything but 22. And yes, 100rd packs of 40 for $25!! These prices are almost pre-madness.

Going price on 40 S&W 50ct these days?
musicman replied to Volzfan's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Wal-Mart in Antioch (S Nash) today: 100rd box! -
Haha!! That is an accurate assessment!

Is it wrong to have a new favorite ammo just cuz it looks cool?
musicman replied to musicman's topic in General Chat
You guys are getting raped on your ammo down there. I hit 3 Wallys in S Nash consistently, and nearly everything is $2-6 cheaper than the prices at the Old Fort WalMart. Blue box Federal .270 is $14.97 at my stores, $17.97 down there. 15 pack Remington Express or Winchester slugs are $10 and change, $12 and change in Mboro. I talked to some guy who was also looking at ammo, and he told me some line about how the district mgr over the Nashville WalMarts was an anti-gunner and kept supply low and prices high up there, and he had it better in the Boro than I did at my stores. Instead of calling BS, I politely shared my experiences from 4 days ago at three S Nash stores where everything but .380 and 22 was stacked deeper and cheaper than the cabinet we were currently looking at. He kept going on about how this store was better, but he still hasn't seen 9 in a long time. I bought 400 rounds of Federal 9 between my three stores for $11xx a box last Friday. He merrily overpaid for a few boxes of rifle ammo as I walked away. :/ Tanker, good to hear you like it, too! -
I've been shooting primarily Federal 12g field & range shells for years, with some Winchester, Estate, and Remington whenever I find a deal on it. Recently, I grabbed a flat of Rio shotshells at Academy for under $5/box. Same price as the Estate stuff, but I saw the Rio shells are made in McEwen, TN. Yes, they are a company based in Spain, but I like the idea of supporting some fellow statesmen in their employment. This past weekend I finally had a chance to "apply" the ammo to some clays... the stuff shot just as well as anything else I've tried. But the best part was how the shells looked! I'm a sucker for anything blue. My Dad's favorite color is blue. As a kid I used to ask him "What's your second favorite color?" His answer: "Blue." I am my father's son! I know it sounds dumb, but the stuff just looks awesome, especially in the pile of boring red and yellow shells that my buddies were shooting... and they even said so! The price is up to $5.49/box now, but it's still the best deal on the shelf, short of the $20.97/100rd Federal and Winchester box at Wally in Antioch. (I was just in the Mbroro Old Fort Wally, and that box was $26.97!! That WalMart's ammo prices are terrible!) Anybody else like the Rio shells? As a man who's primary weapon is a .40, I see no point in a 1911 chambered for .40 S&W. Now, a 1911 chambered in 10MM... that's the hot poop! One of the manliest of popular(ish) pistol cartridges in the most legendary of semi-automatic handguns is a surefire combination for awesomeness. A DW CBOB in 10MM has been my dream pistol for a number of years now. It was a near reality when they were $850, and I should have just done it then. Now... um... it'll be awhile. :-( Best of luck to you in finding one that trips your trigger!

Haha! Yea, I only noticed that after I posted. I promise, #4 is really there!

This is Harley. She's not mine unfortunately, she belongs to my good buddy two doors down. I love this ol' girl like she was my own, though! They have three dogs, and Harley is the only one who can jump their fence. Anytime she sees me she comes running, and I take every opportunity to love on her and hang out. I've always been an animal lover (but NOT a "tree hugger!" Most animals taste too good for that nonsense!) and dream of one day having my own Golden Sheperd. However, that'll never happen in our current house. Wifey is not a dog person. We'll have to have land and a house big enough that there is a "dog-approved" area for it. She's had some bad experiences with a couple dogs in the past that have made her very nervous around them. Harley is the exception, though. Harley is so calm and gentle that she will just sit and let you pet her, without trying to lick you all over and jumping all over your feet. The ice is melting! :x: Anyways, yesterday afternoon was so pretty, I opened the garage to let some fresh air and light in while I sorted the previous couple weeks' worthof range brass. About 10 minutes into it, Harley just waltzed in like she owned the place and nuzzled me for a couple minutes while I pet her and told her how nice it was she came to see me. I keep a box of doggie treats on hand for her, too. I'm sure that helps increase the frequency of her visits! After a few treats, she made two spins and plopped right down in that spot and stayed with me the next two hours. I don't have kids, so this is about as close as it gets for me. :pleased: Anybody else have a four legged buddy that likes to help them reload? Vontar, I am beginning to face the same the same issues in my left heel. I am currently dealing with a swollen left ankle and pretty bad pain on the very bottom of the heel. I can hobble along when it gets bad still, meaning it hasn't kept me from any activities... yet. I stand all day at work, so I get no relief there. I went to the doc a fee weeks ago to see about it, and she just talked like it was plantar fasciitis. I meekly disagreed, and pushed her for an xray. She just wanted to give me painkillers, which I don't want. Anyways, I went and got the xrays, then the next day one of their office lackeys calls and tells me there's a "growth" and that I should stay on the antiinflammatory for a month and see what happens. :/ Methinks there will be surgery in my future. I don't want pills or shots to mask the pain as the spur continues to grow; I want it gone! Plus, the month + recovery will give me lots of time to play guitar and load ammo!

Good work!!! It's awesome to hear about people taking new shooters, especially anti-gunners, to the range and sharing the love! I make a concerted effort to take a new shooter to the range every 2nd or 3rd time I go... I've sold a lot of pistols for Smith & Wesson... still waiting on that commission check! Man, 2,200 rounds!!! I thought I had a lot at 850 with my neighbor and another new shooter last week!

Good work! I took my test with my old P22... ended up with about a 3" cluster, with the middle 1.5" or so completely gone... he just wrote 48/48, 100% and went on to the one. No mention of not liking 100%, or scattering about the page to count. From his smile I think he appreciated my target, as it meant there was no work involved in grading it!

Also, Tapco plastic mags and Red Jacket aluminum mags are on sale for $9.99 each right now. :-)

It was fun shooting next to you today! I was curious what you were doing with the phone. :-) After you left I finally shot a FABULOUS 4 shot group with the 270. I didn't measure it with a ruler or anything, but when I took the paper down and looked closely, it couldn't have more than 1.25". I'm guessing right between 1-1.25 center to center. For me, that was great! It was two sets of touching holes with just a tiny space between the pairs. I couldn't get the 10/22 to hardly do anything out there at 100 yds. :-( Found out the base of the rear scope mount kept working loose... that's what I get for buying cheap junk. Trigger work, scope, and rings for that gun are on the short list now. Oh, after I was done rifle shooting, I bought another 2 hours for handgunning. After that I had lunch, went home and picked up a couple other shotguns and headed out to shoot skeet for the next 3 hours with some church buddies, followed by a steak dinner at Demo's in Mboro. It was absolutely a PERFECT day! And the sore shoulder is totally worth!! ;-) Anyways, I'm really glad you got the rifle dialed in and figured out! You were pretty frustrated there for a bit... I know the feeling! Hope to see you in the range again sometime.

Just deprimed what felt like a bazillion cases... listened to Megadeth's Rust In Peace and Countdown to Extinction. Good times.

Somehow, that is 100% classy and 100% BADA$$ all at once! 200% awesome!

Antioch wally had 50 rd boxes of Brassmax (Tula brass) 223 for $16.97/box!!! There were only two when I got there, and none when I left. ;-) I haven't seen brass 223 under 40¢ a round in a llooooooonnnngggg time! I hit 3 wallys in S Nashville today, all of them were stacked deep with Federal FMJ in 9, 40, and 45. There was also plenty of other, pricier 223. No 380 at any store.

Found 'em. http://www.bigs.com/sizzlin-bacon/ I've been using them for about a month, to great effect!

I feel your pain, Superman... took a couple buddies pistol shooting last weekend... went through 850 rounds... not counting the half brick of .22 we shot. Yea, I'm always the guy taking new shooters out... and they never understand how pricey that range time really is! Enjoy your time loading up your stash! :-) Red... do you rent him out? I pay in spent 9mm and 45 brass! :-) (I don't load those calibers yet, so I have small buckets full of stuff that gets mixed in with my range brass.)

Great topic! I hadn't thought of apps for this hobby before. Just FYI, I went searchjng for the reloading cost calculator and the first one to pop up was from RCBS. That one was pretty clunky and not exactly intuitive. It didnt specify grains or pounds in recerence to powder, nor did it give you a breakdown of component cost. The one mentioned in the OP was, I believe, the app from DOWNZERO. It really is great! It makes me a little sad for the RCBS offering. :-( Anyways, thanks for the new toy! My 50 rd boxes of 44 mag 240gr JSPs cost $9.21 each... I guessed $10... close enough! ;-)

I go through phases with my reloading as time, finances, and my general appreciation for not doing anything all ebb and flow. Due to a bunch of things in life, I pretty much put my firearms hobby on hold in 2008 and started getting back in slowly around 2011. Looking back in my notes, I didn't load a round from early '08 to just after Thanksgiving '11! My shooting and reloading were still sporadic through 2012, as we were focused on getting rid of our last bit of debt, rebuilding our emergency funds, and shoring up savings in general. The last six months I've finally gotten back into a heavy rhythm of shooting and loading, as lots of overtime at work has given me some play money. It's really fun jumping back in at full steam! I spent most of last week simply sorting and polishing brass, then doing a bit of priming. This week I've loaded quite a bit of 38, 40, and 44. I mostly reuse store-bought ammo boxes and trays, and I have my own stick-on labels I use to identify date loaded, caliber, bullet, and powder charge. It's a trip down memory lane when I pull out a box and read the old label... I had one box tonight from May of '07. That was one of the last boxes of .40 I loaded in my old townhouse, about 6 weeks before I got married. I had the press bolted to a 1x10 pine board, and clamped to my coffee table! I sat on the edge of the couch, all hunched over to work that silly thing... every 25-30 rounds the board would start to slide, I'd readjust and re-tighten it down. It was a pain in the butt, and I loved every minute of it! I'm on a crazy depriming/resizing spree now... I did a full 2 gallon bucket full of 44 mag tonight, and started in on some more .40! My goal is to finish the roughly 3,000 more .40 cases tomorrow night, then start on the 357 mag Saturday after some range time. I'm in the midst of a 2-3 week slow period at work where we're building out the last of the 2013 guitars, and then it'll be balls to the wall crazy when the 2014s hit the line. (I can't wait for some of the new colors, especially this gorgeous deep blue/green on the SG standard! But you didn't hear that from me!) Anyways, I'm taking full advantage of the extra time at home, and my right elbow is definitely feeling it! What about the rest of you? Do you reload pretty consistently, or sporadically? Do you just load what you plan on shooting that weekend, or stockpile? Haha... I just realized I'm a sporadic stockpiler. :-)

I got lucky/smart and ordered half a dozen M&P 40 mags from botachtactical when they were $19.95/ea with free shipping last year. SCORE!! BTW Patrick, just loaded up 6 different trial batches with those 40 bullets you sent me. I tried 2 loads each with Ramshot Zip, True Blue, and Silhouette powders. We'll see how they shoot Saturday!

If I ever run out of the 20 or so free bottles of Black Magic car wax I got when I worked at AutoZone, I may give Flitz a try... as it stands, I pour maybe a tablespoon's worth of the car wax into the media and let it run without any brass in it for a few minutes about every 5th load. (I'm on my second bottle, after 4 years) I tried the dryer sheet thing once, and I must be the only dummy whom it didn't impress. It just kinda' got in the way, imho. I think adding the car wax in helps to keep dust down for me anyways, as it's never really an issue. I use a mix of about 70% corn cob, 30% walnut, and let it run about all day sometimes! My brass always comes out SUPER shiny and slick. I feel like a leprechaun with me very own pot o' gold! I deprime/resize after polishing, and the finish the car wax gives the brass helps them run through the brass like buttah!

It's nice to know some of them take very seriously the idea of pretecting their flock. :-) My pastor would also have help, if he needed it. ;-)
