Are they disappointing for 223 or 5.56?
-
Awesome!!! In your honor, I'm gunna blast a hundred rounds through mine tomorrow! ;-) I freakin' love it! After my PC629 and M&P Pro, the Shield has become my 3rd favorite gun to shoot!
-
My Antioch Wally had the same today. I snagged the last 2 :-)

Are you selling out permanently, ie: getting out of the biz? I've still never met you but have had many wonderful transactions with Sam. I'm saving up for the next Murfreesboro gun show, hoping to get sp primers and some AA powders. Are you (or Sam) planning on setting up there still? Sorry... this thread and another post you made somewhere else made it sound like you were getting ready to wind down. I'm sure you're ready to hang it up and kick back! Whatever you do, I hope all is well. You've been a great help to all of us on TGO and it is appreciated.

Saw a shady deal at Academy- with pic
musicman replied to LI0NSFAN's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Yea, I didn't agree with the sentiment, but the meme cracked me up!!! -
My local academy usually has some. Good luck! A 10mm is going to be my next gun. Either a S&W or steel frame EAA Witness. Enjoy the Colt!!

Maybe I'm just not fussy enough, but the stuff in the 100rd tub is on par with WWB or Federal red box, IMHO. Sure, it's a bit dirty in a large, black flaky kinda way, but so what? It seems just as accurate as any cheap FMJ and it caused no trouble in over 1,200 rds with no cleanings between 3 or 4 of my 9mm pistols. The brass has been fine for reloading with consistent primer pockets (unlike the tight WWB cases) and good case life so far. I love the little tub and have kept them all to reuse with my reloaded ammo. I much prefer it to anything in a steel case and the Monarch brass stuff at Academy.

My 9mm was made in Bosnia/Herzegovina and my 223 in Italy. All has performed flawlessly.

Super excited to see this happening! While I'm not "holding my breath" for a group buy on these, let's say I'm... uh... putting an envelope somewhere which will receive $5-10 every now and then... ya know... in case anything happens with this. ;-)

Like 'em both, but that Smith makes me drool! I love the bobtail look!

I'm not eating thin mints right now. :ugh: I'm not.

Got 22 at Smyrna Academy!! Also, cheap(ish) 45 fmj in stock!
musicman replied to musicman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I dunno why I get so excited... I've got enough 22 for a decade or more myself. (All bought way before Newtown, thank you very much!) However, I keep an eye out for friends and family who didn't have stock on hand before the panic hit. It's kind of a rush seeing it out in the wild now! These boxes will go to my nephews in KY, ages 6 and 8. -
YYYYYAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!! Got 2 boxes of Federal 38gr copper plated HP for $3.99 ea. They still had about a dozen boxes left at 4:45, but they didn't expect it to last another 30 mins. They told me they got 8 of the 1,400rd Bucket O' Bullets in today, and they lasted til just after 10am. I was a bit miffed 'cuz I begged wifey to visit the store this morning since she (teacher) had the day off. She didn't go. :squint: Oh well. I'm not a .45 man, but I know many are. They had Monarch 230gr fmj brass for $18.99/50. That's good even by Wal-Mart standards, IMHO. Also, as many may already know, they price dropped their DRT ammo by $3-5/box across all calibers. I think 9mm was $15.99/20 and 40 was $16.99/20. I'm tempted, but I'm just not sold on lightweight frangible whiz-bang ammo. Instead, I grabbed the last two boxes of Federal 9mm 147gr FTX for $17.99/25. Happy ammo hunting!!

Haha! Armed to the tooth! I couldn't bring myself to wear it, but more power to ya! :-)

Every gun is loaded every time. :ugh: Mainly because most of mine are! Glad you checked!

My secret brass cleaning solution...............................
musicman replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I use the car wax in the tumbling media. Squirt in a tablspoon or so and let tumble for about 5-10 mins, then dump in the brass. Voila! Makes 'em run through the dies like hot buttah. I've never worried too much about the cases being dirty inside... but I may try this lemi-shine trick. A certain buddy of mine (ahem... w0lfattack!... ahem) is super anal about clean and shiny brass inside and out. Guess it's starting to rub off on me. -
I don't necessarily doubt it either. That wasn't a golf ball he was shooting at; it was a sizeable steel plate. 6 tries is probably quicker than I could walk that in, but I believe in the realm of possibility. Edited, probably. Impossible, probably not. I have a penchant for pistol punching golf balls at further than normal distances. I usually use a S&W 19 4" when I do. Many times the top of the barrel itself is visible above the rear sight to get them out there, but it's doable.... and a LOT of fun! I think many folks who have never tried something like that with a pistol are quick to dismiss this kind of thing.

Anybody ever load warm 357 plated 148gr DEWC?
musicman replied to musicman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I think lngrngshtr gets me. I've done all the basic 38 and 38+p stuff... I'm just wanting to goof around and fling a dewc stupid fast! I'd kinda like it if it tumbled and went all erratic... makes for a nifty looking target sheet! I've got shelves full of plinking ammo, defense ammo, and hunting ammo. I'm just being weird I guess and wanting to go way outside the norm. :-) Lee's data lists a load with Bullseye getting close to 1500 fps. Even taking 10% off the top still gives you one smokin' cartridge! I'm thinking at those velocities, as mentioned, my main safety issue would be bullet integrity. What happens if you push a plated bullet too fast and it peels/sheds/shreds the plating? Is it a dangerous situation or simply bad for accuracy/performance? Anyone with experience in this regard? I changed my mind tonight and loaded up a bunch of 9mm. I'll continue to think on this... maybe have something worked up before the weekend. Thanks for the replies and sugggestions! -
I like the dustcover idea! Make a rail with the dustcovers mounted perpendicularly and you now have a compact solution that can also be permanently mounted somewhere... maybe the passenger side footwell of your Humvee... ya know... in case the zombies attack on your way home from work!

Ha!! I thought this thread was gunna be about a surveillance video of some dude gettin' capped! Haha! Anywhy, congrats. I've been contemplating a similar move. I've also been contemplating ACTUALLY moving, so I think I'm just gunna wait for now. I'll be following this to see how it all turns out. :-)

I'm going through a bunch of partial boxes of bullets and loading up whatever leftovers I find in what I consider my "spring cleaning" of my reloading area. I've got a bag of maybe 150-200 plated 148gr double ended wadcutters to use up. I've usually loaded them as light target rounds with 3 grs Bullseye and called it a day. This time though, I want to do something different. I've got plenty of lead HBWCs for plinking. With these being plated, I'm thinking I want to drive them harder and see what they can do on a jug of water or something. I show data for them up to pretty hot 357 levels. I'm thinking about dialing it back just a bit, around 5.0-5.5gr Bullseye... probably around 1250-1400 fps. I've got a 4" Smith 19 and a Marlin 1894 to play with. The Marlin will feed wadcutters in a 357 case, but not in a 38 case. What say you guys? Any experience loading a more full-powered wadcutter? I don't know why I'm a little apprehensive... I'll load the ever-lovin' dog snot out of a 125 or 158 grain bullet! In fact, I just loaded a box of max power 158gr lswcs over 2400! Should I be worried about doing close to the same with a small plated soda-can of a bullet?

'Nother non-hvac garage relaoder here. Only been doing it 7 years, but no problems so far. Like was mentioned, I do keep things wiped down and lightly oiled. No issues with powder or primer life, either.

Wifey wanted a Nano cuz it was pink. I asked her to just hold the Shield side by side w the nano. We ended up with a Shield. That's saying a lot, cuz she's really hung up on the idea of a pink gun! I absolutely love the Shield 9. If I could find a way to swap my M&P9c for a 40 Shield with a little cash coming my way, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I like 'em all amd shoot 9 and 40 most. Smaller guns get the 9s, bigger guns get the 40s. My main pistols are M&Ps. An M&P Pro 40, M&P 40 fullsize, M&P9c, and a Shield 9. I'm not very recoil shy, but also want my wife to be able to handle all of my guns of she needs to. I've recently developed a strong desire for the 10MM... i see an EAA Witness in my future. 15rds of 10MM?!?!? Yes, please!
