  1. I just got rid of my SR22.  Years ago I had a Walther P22 (sold it years ago due to financial hardships) and it, in my opinion, was a vastly superior gun.  Maybe I got an SR22 that was less than exemplary... it had a lot of internal rough edges, and quite often would not chamber the second round from the magazine.    I bought the SR22 instead of another P22 because I wanted to try this new Ruger that everyone was raving about.  I am a bona-fide S&W M&P addict (currently have four) and thought about the M&P22 for precisely the reason you stated; to practice with the same platform I shoot normally.  Then I realized I have a bunch of different guns!  Trigger discipline and sight alignment are pretty similar across the firearm field.  I like small 22s, so I decided against the M&P22.  The 12 round capacity of the M&P22 is cool, though.    If I had it to do all over again, I'd get another P22... and in another month or two, I probably will!   I know everyone's tastes and experience are different and that's cool.  This is simply my experience.
  2. So far I've built two PTAC uppers and have been pleased as punch with both of them! Zero issues and as accurate as I can shoot them. I would contend that if one is trying to build a 200+ yard dime shooter, he probably shouldn't be looking at $300 complete uppers, but $300 barrels! W0lfattack was plenty happy with his one-hole 3 shot group with my latest build. (iron sights, about 18-20 paces... not 100 yards!) I don't know that there's a much better value to be had in the AR world. First PTAC build Last week's build Here's the show and tell thread about the latest gun. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/78119-my-400-tgo-tribute-ar/
  3. Spot on, lilfish. Many loads with the slow magnum powders are compressed loads. And yes, H110 and Winchester 296 are pretty much the same thing, from the same manufacturer, just with different labels. I use them interchangeably. They are my go-to powers for hot 357s, along with 2400. For 38 I like bullseye and HP38, but it's so forgiving you can just about drop a few grains of anything and have a range-worthy load! Honestly, fast powders that take up less than 50% of the case capacity worry me more than slow powders that seem to fill them up. I'll know if I screw up with a slow powder... but you can charge a 38 case with 2.8gr of Bullseye four times before any will spill over and alert you to the problem.
  4. Just an update: gun ran flawlessly today! All I had to do was move the rear sight 9 clicks to the left and we were golden! Wolfattack went prone and put 3 shots in one hole at about 20 yards with irons... good enough for me! I took it easy going through the first mag. Later, we set up some water-filled jugs, loaded up both my ARs (I took this one, he had my fancier one) with 42rd mags and blazed through them in probably 20-25 seconds, then I burned through another 42rd mag to continue the carnage. Yea... the gun was HOT!!! All the grease and lube was smoking/ steaming off for about 2 minutes. Then I picked it back up and dumped another 30 chasing golf balls. :-) I'm super happy with it! Perfect function, light weight, and no tendency to baby it! Flippin' SWEET!!
  5. Bummer, Nick. I was looking for you at the show... I even had a "new reloader" care package for you in the car. :-(
  6. Oh, yea, I forgot... thanks David, for the Unique for us TGOers! It looks like it'll be awhile until I can get my favorites, but Unique is a great standby and will work in almost everything I load.
  7. I think I'm sick... for some reason I grabbed 6 more PMAGs today.    I got enough primers for the next 3-4 years, but like pretty much everyone else I couldn't find the two powders I was looking for.   Grabbed a couple knives, my first Mora and what might be my 15th Kershaw!
  8. Good show, good show. Heading to Jimmy Johns now.
  9. Sweet! In for 1!
  10. For anyone thinking about going to the OK Corral after the show tomorrow, here is the thread with that info: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/78166-anybody-want-to-go-shooting-at-the-ok-corral-saturday/?p=1142864
  11. Looks like I and a buddy are probably going be at the show from open to 11 or so... really just depends on how long it takes him to either sell his gun or decide to keep it.  Then we'll probably head to Jimmy John's here http://goo.gl/maps/8ObKL on Middle TN Blvd.  From there it should be about 30-40 mins to the OK Corral.   Anyone who want to join is more than welcome.  For the first hour or so I'll be walking the show with a bright blue camo Jansport knockoff bookbag on my back... should be pretty easy to spot the bearded fatty with what looks like a blueberry bush on his back. :D   I'll post here when I think we're about ready to leave the show tomorrow.   Oh, and just in case you're a first timer to the OK Corral, here's a map: http://goo.gl/maps/J7xCi It's $5 to shoot all day.  They have some clay shooting for additional charge as well.
  12. Five bowls of soup.... I'm sleepy.
  13. Ditto! Excellent decision! Pics?!?!
  14. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/74933-arts-and-crafts/#entry1123126 I'm sitting here by myself at Demo's in Murfreesboro enjoying my 3rd bowl of chicken and rice soup, so I did a little digging and found it. That's pretty much exactly what I'm wanting to do.
  15. I gotta find that thread where dude here did one a few months back. I have traditionally been against camo, but his rifle was AMAZING! I'll look for it when I get home and throw the link up here. It's flippin' sweet. Also... that's the whole point of this gun for me.... try all the dumb stuff I'd be too afraid to do to a $1k gun! Haha!
  16. Haha!! Not quite, but I actually AM planning a $20-30 rattle-camo job for this puppy! At PSA right now you can build this gun with an aluminum lower for $449. Crazy! :-D
  17. Isn't the fairgrounds show $8? I thought this one was $10 minus coupon.
  18. Hey, anybody wanna go shoot at the OK Corral after the show Saturday? I'm planning to be at the show for an hour or two, then head over to the range. It'd be cool to have a mini TGO meet!
  19. I'm planning on hittin' the fun show in Murfreesboro Saturday morning for a couple hours and then headin' over to the OK Corral for a good long while. Anybody else wanna go?
  20. Hmmm.... I've been looking at those alien gear holsters... mebbe gunna order one if I don't spend every last penny at the fun show this weekend.
  21. Do you ever make it over to S Nashville/Smyrna? I think I've got both and am migrating to the AA series of powders.
  22. Thanks for the kind words, guys! I'm a little iffy on the lower... more specifically, all the plastic parts in the fire control group. No matter... the thing was dirt cheap and we'll see how she handles soon enough. I'm waiting to find someone who's sitting on a pile of aluminum lowers so I can trade a little paper, off the paper, for future builds. I don't know yet if I'll trust a poly lower long term. Best of luck with the last bit of yours, Nicky. Hey, are you planning on hitting the fun show Saturday in Mboro?
  23. It's absolutely nuthin' fancy! I wanted to build the most basic, cheap, light AR I could using the extra BCG from the TGO group buy. A few years ago I bought some poly lowers right before that last big gun control push... ya know... in case. I was poor, hence the poly vs aluminum lowers. AAAnywho, I had this stuff in a drawer under a mountain of PMAGS and when PSA ran a really good deal on their PTAC cheapie uppers I jumped on one. It took about 2.5 weeks to ship, got it today. The upper was minus BCG, CH, and rear sight. I WAS gunna buy the cheapest things I could find, but it seemed like all the cheap stuff was out of stock at every site. :yuck: Some of you may remember my shameless solicitation in the gear classifieds looking for these parts. I want to thank Ted S., Luke E, and TripleDigitRide for being SSOOOO generous with their time and parts bins! There were more who offered help as well, and I'm grateful for all of you. I had a goal of building an AR for $400, and it wouldn't have been possible without you. These guys are why TGO is so awesome... the community and willingness to help/share is simply unbelievable. (Side note, I've had a magazine for a .40 Sigma/SD listed in the Pay-It-Forward thread for weeks! Somebody claim it!) Only goof I made in execution here was not noticing that this is a heavy barrel upper, not the lightweight profile. :ugh: With the poly lower, it's a bit forward-heavy. Oh well. I'm alright with it for the price! I haven't shot it yet. Mebbe this weekend! :pleased: The only thing I really wanna change is the grip. I'm hoping to find a good deal on a Hogue rubber grip at the fun show in Mboro this weekend. Not much to look at, but here it is!
  24. I'm planning on being there Saturday morning as well... gotta get my fix at David's booth!
  25. Just be glad it didn't self-destruct in 5...4...3...2...
