  1. Call me crazy, but I've been less than impressed with my sister-in-law's Ruger American in 243. Kinda rough build (burrs on some edges, not a very smooth bolt, noisy action) and a trigger that has what feels like two fine grains of sand right before it finally breaks. OK accuracy, but she has a basic Bushnell 3x9 on it, and I'm not a world class rifle shooter either. What I do like are the Savages in the same price range, and one that I feel is often overlooked, the Marlin XL7. I got one in 270 for about 3 bills that has been excellent. Smoooooth action, great shooter, excellent build quality. If you see one at your local shop, at least pick it up and see what you think.
  2. Yea, I want a fancy-pants stainless match (maybe fluted) bull barrel and a round, knurled, free-float handguard with a nicer bipod on the end. When I'm close to having the money, I'll start deciding on exactly what to do. I love my CMT TGO AR... would love a matching TGO CMT AR10... wink, wink!!
  3. I'll tell you what my next gun will be... AR10 in 308. I'm leaning towards the S&W M&P10, then changing the barrel and handguard later. I think it's terribly ugly in factory spec.
  4. I prefer the Monarch at Academy for a few cents more than the Tula at Wally. The Smyrna Academy has all the 223 you can carry for $5.99/box.
  5. Tommy Boy. About half of my humor is roooted in that movie.
  6. I'm gunna go shooting with a friend from work at the Hobson Pike range today, both rifle and pistol. Anybody else going? I always like to meet fellow TGOers and put faces with screen-names. :-) I'll be the guy that looks like my avatar. Ha!
  7. Is currently watching "Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood", his favorite movie.
  8. Sounds awesome! I've only shot IDPA a couple times, and have always wanted to try 3 gun... now I can, since I have all the guns for it again! See you then!
  9. Thinking about coming to this one. I don't have any fancy vest or anything for drawing from concealment. Will an extra long, untucked Tshirt count towards that requirement? Last time I shot IDPA it was nut-freezing cold, so I had a handy Carhartt on already!
  10. Terminal ballistics are so fuzzy, with many variables. I like the added capacity and lower cost of 9 and 40. Those are my main reasons for choosing those calibers. And Smith doesn't make a Shield in .308 win.
  11. I can't flippin' wait!! I have nice things (guns, guitars, and now my first pricey knife) but nothing I own stays a "safe queen." Every gun gets shot (a lot) every guitar gets played out, and I've been using my TGO knife like crazy. I like it more and more every time I use it. It feels purposeful. I've liked many other knives, but this is different. I can't wait for the Godfather buy... I think I'm gunna love it even MORE! Sweet pair o' skinners you got there, Mike! I love the maple! Some day, I want one done in flame maple and sprayed to match my favorite Les Paul!
  12. So the XD is just your backup weapon, then? Haha!
  13. HA!!! That's awesome!
  14. Yesss!!! There's still hope!! Haha! I pretty much consider the Shield safety-less anyway! I think I flipped mine up and down a few times just because... other than that I've never fooled with it, and it has never yet engaged through all kinds of ridiculous carry shenanigans. :-D
  15. C'mon guys, cutte it out! ;-)
  16. Yup.. the rollout of the R51 seems to be a pretty epic fail, imho. Which is a bummer... I was hoping for used/like new Shields to flood the market at like $200/ea as everyone flocked to the lil Remmie. I wanna get one for each car, every room in the house, every backpack, you name it!
  17. What would be the downside to the 642 for you? Just felt recoil? If so, do you use it as a range toy often, or do you have other guns for that purpose? Do you have to keep the 640? Is buying a 642 and seling the 640 an option? Sorry for all the questions. To me, those are the issues it comes down to, and your answers may be different than mine. In my situation, I have plenty of other range guns to expend ammo in, and also, I'm not very recoil sensitive. If I were in your situation, I would get a 642 and sell the 640 because in my mind, it is simply a carry gun and I want every advantage on my side in making me more likely to have it with me when I needed it. Who am I kiddin'... I'm a Smith & Wesson fanatic... I'll probably eventually have both models! Heck, I have a range bag full of M&Ps! Whatever you choose, best of luck and happy shootin'!
  18. I've been stuck with two counterfeit bills in my life... both were tens. :/ One time was when I was in a REAL money crunch almost 6 years ago. It really sucked then. I'm very thankful to be past that point for now.
  19. Thanks HP! I've never played with a VTac, so I can't comment on that, but I do have a Shield 9 and compact and full size M&P 40s. I LOVE the Pro! Best trigger of the bunch (short of an Apex'd gun, of course) and I really dig the 5" barrel. Not only does it look completely badass, it really balances out the weight of a loaded mag in the gun. I like a big, hefty gun. The Pro is all that! I didn't think I'd like the sights at first. It has a green fiber optic front dot, and a plain black rear. Every other gun I have is a traditional 3dot config. Once I shot it, I LOVED it! Great for IDPA... see the green on your threat; press the trigger! I thought maybe I'd be a little less accurate at the range with it... nope. I realized when shooting for accuracy I'm not looking at the dots anyway. I'm watching the relationship of the edges of the front post with the notch in the rear blade! Pretty much zero drawback for the way I shoot. Back to the knife... love it! I may or may not have imagined today was in the future, and I may or may not have taken it to show some work buddies who are also gun and knife nuts. Oh, it also makes a handy gardening buddy for harvesting squash and hot peppers. :-)
  20. Alright, Ruger! You reminded me I wanted to do this! You up for letting me come over and walking me through it? I also really like your "paint box." I've been wondering what I could use here at home in that capacity. My wifey will be out of town for two weeks immediately after the 4th of July. I'll need something to do! :-)
  21. Farts are always funny! Duck Dynasty's Kori Robertson got an extra 1k cool points for that... even if it WAS scripted! AAAANYwho... here's my Pro-Tech with my Pro!
  22. Some of us in "the city" have family in "the country."
  23. I'll do my best to follow these commandments!
  24. I never knew when I paid way too much for that first dog of a gun years ago that the hobby would bring such rich experience to my life, in so many ways. Eddie, you are a part of that, too. Also, I still have and cherish that Mosin M44. :-)
