  1. My mother-in-law was trying to be nice and bought me two boxes of this in .40. I said "Wow! Thanks" and looked thrilled on the outside, while inside my soul died a little bit, knowing that same money could have gotten me over 100 Gold Dots, HSTs,FTX, or maybe even 150 plain jane XTPs, all which would be better choices than this modern snake oil. I kinda feel that this is similar to the thinking that an AR is a terrible all-powerful killing machine while a nice wood-stocked .308 bolt gun is simply an antiquated hunting tool from days gone by. It's all about the flash, not substance or proof.
  2. Wow!! That is BEAUTIFUL!! I normally don't like EBRs in anything but.. uh... B, but that is simply awesome! Excellent choices in that build. I have a build using a poly lower, and it's been great. I don't know that I'd choose it to take into combat overseas, buy it's great for everything I want out the gun.
  3. Glad someone out there understands what I'm saying, jughead. I've watched some of the most successful guitar techs in Nashville correct small issues in seconds for free or just $5-10 cash time and time again, knowing that these people have other options for future needs, and they want to build a relationship for that future refret or wiring job. In a few different cases I've done the same, both on the guitar and automotive side. I guess since I come from a business owner background and always made efforts to provide excellent customer service and build strong relationships, it really grinds my gears to experience the opposite. Again, everyone has the freedom (at least they used to) to operate their business as they see fit, and customers get to choose who they use.

    AR lowers

IMHO, as long as it's from a recognizable brand name, these days a lower is a lower is a lower. It doesn't do anything, it is a hunk of aluminum in which you put things. Sure some have fancy spiders engraved, and it's cool to have a fancy billet lower like the awesome ones we got from CMT TGO run with our logo on it, but honestly for a basic gun I see little to no performance difference between that fancy billet piece and the $39 blem Anderson lower I built my next rifle on. Both work great. One looks cooler and cost 4 times more. I am super glad I have both and am very happy with the value I got in each case. I see basic lowers on FB listing for $80-90 often, sometimes less. I believe Guns and More in Smyrna has Spike's lowers for $89 +tax/tics. You can find the Andersons for around $50-60 +tax/tics at many shops. They are often $39 online, plus your transfer and tics. Good luck and have fun! Watch palmettostatearmory.com for deals as well. Just be prepared to wait a bit for orders to arrive. They've gotten better but sometimes people do still experience long shipping times through them, but if you aren't in a hurry they offer some smokin' deals every now and then. Good luck and keep us posted!
  5. I wouldn't care if it was fixed a little longer, unfortunately it's like right in the middle and it's dreadful! :P I've got that scope shoved as far forward as I can get it... just doesn't feel right, either. I'll figure something else out after new year's.
  6. Got my Smiff'n Western in Wednesday. I kinda like the look with the ridiculously huge sun shade on the scope, lol! It's an MA compliant model, so that stock will be replaced soon, and probably a drop-in trigger eventually. The handguards will also go bye-bye in time. Hoping to try it out Sunday after church!
  7. Excellent choice! I'm a huge fan myself! Awesome that you got one w night sights and a spare mag at that price! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine! :-)
  8. Thanks :-) It's an MA compliant model so no flash hider or grenade launcher attachment, and a fixed stock. I got such a good deal on it I'll still be ahead even after I change the stock and tube later. Here's a pic I snapped last night: I'm waiting to see what you get! :-)
  9. That's why I said said he's not technically incorrect. Everyone can do business how they see fit, and consumers have the freedom to choose to continue or terminate their working relationship in response. We both made our choices.
  10. What gave it away?! (BTW, I bought an M&P AR10 yesterday. Seriously.)
  11. Shield!!!
  12. Yea. He was within his right, and I don't deny that. However, the way he handled it really left me sour. He knew I also had other things I was planning on using him for, and I felt really taken advantage of. Like if an auto mechanic charged you his minimum 1hr labor and miscellaneous shop fees to open the hood of your car which wouldn't start, tighten the loose ground on your battery that he knew was the problem the second you brought it in, and then shut the hood and cashed your check. While technically not wrong, I'll never let that ...individual... ever get near one of my guns again. I will also not reveal his name, as I just don't think I should trash the guy. I have two friends that have used his services and both were happy. I guess I just had an extra dose of "I'm the biggest idiot ever. Please take hours of my labor for your finger twist." on my face that day, and he saw it. Sorry for the threadcrap... hope your new 500 shows up soon and that it's everything you dreamed! They're awesome pieces!
  13. Haha! That's funny! Yea, I don't think there's a single one of us here that wouldn't giggle like a school girl at the sight of a box from Midway on the doorstep. Haha! It's no Midway box, but I sent mine out today. :-)
  14. Spot on advice. I learned this when my 19-3 started getting really hard to open. I took it to a gunsmith and he happily charged me $40 to tighten the ejector rod. By hand. And return my gun to me. :/
  15. Ditto! I got one this summer and LOVE it!!! Go for the Witness Elite Match. You'll thank yourself. ;-) Of course, I also have a S&W 19 which is one of my favorite guns, I really miss my old 686 and GP 100, too. There's nothing like a classy 6" or 8" S&W 29 44 mag... oh goodness... I'm no help, haha! Just get whatever you want and let us know! :-)
  16. Yup, packed mine up tonight, will be in the post tomorrow. This is the fun part! I just hope the items will be useful for the receiver. :-)
  17. Sweet! I'm kinda glad for the break between knives (allowed me to get another gun... picking up an M&P10 this afternoon!) but I'm still super stoked about these little buggers!
  18. This exactly, even down to the M&P! Sitting on a pile of Hornady FTX in 9 and 40... and it's about to get bigger, as my PSA order is showing up tomorrow. They had the FTX stuff in both calibers for $10 and $11 a box of 20.
  19. I didn't order anything big this year, just a bunch of ammo on Friday. This morning I got an email from UPS stating it will arrive Wednesday... wow! They've really upped their game in the last 12 months! Last year's order was 20 days from order to delivery.
  20. Yep, I saw that. I tried to get a Canik Friday to no avail. A little bummed, but I didn't cry or cuss Bud's. If I remember this on my lunch break tomorrow, I may give it another shot. I qualify, bought two guns from them around July this year. Shipping was slower than PSA, but I saved over $150 between the two, and couldn't even find one gun I wanted across 4 counties in Mid TN. I don't think they handled it as well as they could have, but whatever I'm not gunna flip out about it.
  21. Years ago (12, I think) I had cash in hand to buy a Marlin .22 from WalMart on Old Fort in Murfreesboro. I paid for my BG check and waited. And waited. And waited. Two hours later, no one had processed it yet, and I was too inexperienced (my second gun purchase) to even know what to ask or do... Iwas a noob at their mercy. I eventually gave up considered it a $10 loss, drove all the way up to Bass Pro at Opry and walked out with a Remington 597 within 10 minutes of walking in the door. It turned out to be the worst gun I've owned so far, but at least Bass Pro processed it properly and quickly!
  22. 44 spc is so expensive due to the fact that practically NO ONE shoots it, haha! I've never fired a round of it myself. If you get going with the Lee kit, you can make 44 special-ish loads in your 44 cases. I think my light 44 loads are something like 6 or so grains of a fast powder like titegroup, clays, or HP38/W231 and a 180gr cast bullet. Lots of fun!
  23. Academy had Remington fmj for $32/50. That's the cheapest I found in the brick and mortar stores. I like the Freedommunitions.com stuff as well, both new and reman. Very affordable. For hunting stuff, check out Underwood ammo online. Most factory 10MM is nowhere near the power levels the cartridge has the potential to develop, but Underwood makes some hot stuff. If you're shooting an older Delta Elite or other less robust design, they have specific loads to stay away from.
  24. Phew... 44 is 'spensive!! If you've ever thought about reloading, 357 and 44 are two calibers that can provide dramatic savings. As for your questions on factory ammo prices; the best pricing I've found locally was Georgia Ammo at gun shows and the Reloader's Bench in Mt Juliet. They also offer remans in addition to new stuff, and sometimes there are XTP loaded options. Short of that, Remington white and green box fmj is usually the cheapest. Have fun and enjoy!
  25. We probably missed the 3 second window while we were getting error messages, haha!
