  1. Traffic lights out on Harding. Awesome. 20 mins, 2 blocks. 'Course, I guess it's better than taking one in the tailpipe, right KM?
  2. Dude. Super sweet! I haven't really cared about SBRs before, but now I got one buddy tempting me, and then you post THAT. Geez. Good thing I just bought a box full of lowers, huh? :-D
  3. I got tagged in the chest pretty good with a 45 bounce back at Gun City years ago. I thought I was a goner, lol! No blood, but a good welt for about a week. Dude next to me had just let me shoot his sweet Ed Brown. I went back to my lane, he picked up his next mag, and then... OW!!! Gun City was the first place I ever fired a handgun. Terry, the one-armed Veteran working there taught me how to take down and put together my Sigma (go ahead, judge me) and the basics of sight alignment and trigger control. He was a great guy, and I always look back on his kindness towards me as a newbie with thankfulness. Though the place is pretty rough, I learned how to shoot there and I was treated well by Jack and Terry. I miss those days, to be honest.
  4. Will agree with WST. I think it's probably one of the most overlooked powders for the bigger auto calibers. I haven't used it in awhile as I have just taken a liking to the AA stuff, but that was the first powder I ever used in 40. It was a great mid-range performer and super consistent in charge weights. I went to other powders becuase I couldn't regularly find WST for awhile.
  5. Ditto Greg. I have no military experience whatsoever, and am maybe just barely qualified to be a gun enthusiast. I've had three AR15s and one AR10 so far, and at some time or another have fired all of them with some weight/pressure being put on the mag. Never once has it caused a problem. I don't know that I ever intentionally use the mag as a rest, but it ends up happening a lot... especially so with the 42rd promags. (Which have never caused me a problem either, btw.) As others have stated, I'd start with the mag catch. It's super easy to replace if it's a standard mil-spec design, and the parts are cheap if you just want to try something out.
  6. Word up. I chose "maybe" because there's a slight chance I may have to be somewhere else that night, but I'll most likely be there.
  7. As for safeties, my opinion is that the 4 rules of gun safety are your trigger safety. I carry all kinds and generally prefer striker fired guns with no manual safeties. I'm an M&P man most of the time. When the mood strikes I bust out an older 3913... cuz I feel like a 90s Miami cop when I carry that thing.
  8. I'm not a Glock guy, but assuming both guns are in good/similar shape, it's the G36 and a no-brainer, imho. Dead nuts easy to take down and clean, a reputation built on reliability, and strong value retention when you want to trade/sell later. I have neither weapon and no dog in the fight.
  9. Call me crazy, but I see this coming out differently. With Obama's soft spot for Islamic terrorists and his recent lax deal with his Iranian homies, I don't see this event lasting very long in his media outlets in general. I don't think he wants to talk about the uncomfortable truth that Islamic extremists are not just overseas. I believe he would rather this whole thing be swept under the rug. To use it as a battle cry for more gun control would do the opposite. Just my 2 cents.
  10. Hot diggity! Anderson must be selling these for like $18!
  11. Literally BOL at that!
  12. Terrible event, and prayers going out to all involved, especially the families left behind.
  13. Oh. Snap. That larger two tone looks incredible!
  14. http://fatboytactical.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28655 I like these guys. Super personable, and answered a random email I sent at 10pm on a Sunday night... didn't really expect an answer for a couple days, and got it in 15 minutes! $195 for a 5 pack of these lowers, and $10 shipping.
  15. Hmmm... AIM adds shipping, and limits to 3. They work out to $42.50 each delivered from Joebob (if ordering more than $90) with no limit. Aim limits to 3, shipping is $9.78 for one or three. If ordering a few, Joebob wins. I don't know what joebob shipping is on one or two lowers.
  16. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Anderson_Manufacturing_AR15_Lower_Receiver_Closed_p/ander-lower-closed.htm Use code 2anderson for 15%off 2 or more. Free shipping over 90 dollars. Crazy good deal, imho. I hate installing trigger guards! These are not being advertised as blems, from what I can tell. I have an undisclosed quantity inbound ;-)
  17. Man... I already love my Witness pistols... now youse guys are gunna make me get some Jerichos, too! Sheesh! :D

One other thought... you might play with moving the oil weight up a step or two to the top of the recommended weight for the motor. These days most manufacturers spec super light stuff for economy. I'm not sure what Chevy was doing in 2001, but theoretically a heavier oil is made up of longer molecular chains and may not seep through seals as much when cold versus a lighter weight smaller-chain oil.

Ditto EssOne. However... that's going through oil fast, isn't it?! Is it all over your driveway or getting burned up due to worn rings?
  20. Cool! Great guns. They're nice and hefty making 9mm a breeze to shoot.... not that 9 is a challenging caliber to start with. :-) I look forward to the range report!
  21. The Dutch will probably be calling him soon for tips on 300BO: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/07/foghorn/dutch-special-forces-adopt-300-aac-blackout/
  22. I don't cast (yet) but just fyi, in some of the reading I've done on Mosins, the bores can be somewhat loose in tolerance. Being mass produced as quickly and cheaply as possible all over Europe can do that, lol! I've read some bores can be as wide as .312, with many around .310-.311. I'm guessing you probably knew that already, but just thought I'd share. I look forward to reading about your results!
