Ozark Ordnance 300 BLK...anyone used this stuff??
musicman replied to WarPig's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Not to crap on the thread, but just wanted to share the actual definition of MOA http://nssf.org/video/facts/MOA.cfm Particularly: 1. Always think in increments of 1 MOA at whatever distance you are shooting. For example, imagine you are shooting at 300 yards. You know that a MOA spreads out 1" per 100 yards, so 1 MOA at 300 yards is 3". Therefore, for your calculations at that 300 yard target, you should think in 3" increments. By doing so, you can easily see that 2 MOA is just 2 of those 3" increments, or 6" total. And likewise, 1/2 MOA is 1/2 of those 3" increments, or 1.5". If you are having trouble determining the increments in your head and would rather have a formula, you can try this method. Divide the distance (in yards) you are shooting by 100 and you will know how big 1 MOA is in inches. For example, imagine you are now shooting at 250 yards. 250 / 100 = 2.5. So, 1 MOA at 250 yards is 2.5". All of that to say, you listed 3 distances and 3 different MOA. In reality, you basically just said the same thing 3 times 2-3 MOA. At 100 yds that's 2-3" groups. At 50 yards that means groups of roughly 1-2 inches, and at 25 yards roughly 1" groups. The key to remember is that group size at a given distance does not necessarily mean MOA. That only correlates neatly at 100 yds. Happy shootin'! -
Chiming in to say the same thing everyone else has said... great rifle, and great history. I love hearing things like this, and I'm really glad he got to GIVE it to you instead of pass it on to you. Wonderful :-)

Nice to hear some other small voices of reason break out amongst the din, haha!
-
I had one on my M&P10. Drilled it out. Don't slip like I did. Also, it's way smart if you put a buttload of masking tape around, unlike I neglected to do in my frustrated rush.
-
Do you have an Academy nearby? Every one in the MidTN area is stocked to the gills with the stuff, and at similar pricing. :-)
-
Wow. Those are pretty! I will need a couple soon. Hhhmmm....
-
Don't confuse 44 special and 44 mag, and 38 special and 357 mag with standard and magun rifle calibers. No interchangeability with the rifle stuff. The cases are different, and you WILL blow up the gun, and maybe your hand. Only shoot what is listed on the barrel. The only common exceptions are .223/5.56 and .308/7.62x51. You can shoot .223 in a 5.56, but not the reverse. You can shoot 7.62x51 in a .308, but not the reverse.

Nope, just as good, imho. The only thing you have to watch is speed with plated. Some types aren't build to handle 1,400 fps or more. With 180 or 200 grain bullets that shouldn't be a problem. Xtreme's bullets are usually doublestruck, giving them a bit more integrity. As to your other comment, what do shipping concerns have to do with bullet choice? That makes pretty much zero sense to me. As for diameter being erratic, I would equate that more with brand than bullet type. Was it possibly a Berry's bullet review? I know they're popular, but I'm not a fan. Also, midway is about the last place to buy bullets unless they're on a great sale or something.
-
No, I haven't tried powder coated bullets. Not because of any aversion, I just haven't bought any yet. I like the plated stuff from XTREMEBULLETS.COM I've been through about 7k of their stuff so far. The only one I don't like is their 158gr 38. Every dang one keyholes, no matter the load or powder, between two different Smiths that NOTHING else keyholes in. :/ I'm almost through the box, and it won't be replaced. I used to buy from rmrbullets.com, but lately it seems they sell more pulled bullets than standard plated bullets.

Right on. 9 is the best choice for heavier bullets anyway :)
-
Hm. Were those supposed to be different links? Both took me to the same thread. I don't necessarily read that information as danger, just someone's preference with spreads (which were not listed to for reference) I hesitate to use that one sentence with no data to back it up to justify a fear of "blowing up your gun" when using published loads. :-) AA5 is a poor choice for 10MM anyway, but 7 is ok for a lightly reduced power target loads. It's a bit more economical than AA9.
-
Ditto! I imagine it to be quite a thumper out of a longer barrel. Like 357 and 44, 10MM is at it's best with the slower powders. Whereas as 9 and 45 generally use faster powders, they don't pick up quite as much extra speed with an extra foot of barrel. Look at the numbers out of pistols versus things like the keltec sub2000s. Not a huge velocity pickup. Then look at 357 or 44 out of 4-"6" revolvers and then their levergun counterparts. Hot diggity!

This. For some reason, especially in 38/357 and 44 mag. I get some splitting as early as 2nd or 3rd loading. For the auto stuff it is much more rare. I believe I've only thrown 2 nickel 40 cases away in the last decade due to splitting. I actually prefer the nickel stuff for SHTF defense ammo. More resistant to tarnish, and nickel is more slick to aid in feeding. I don't all the premium defense ammo is nickel just for looks. ;-)

Ba-doom-psshhh!

Where did you read bad stuff about AA5?! All of the AA pistol stuff is pretty awesome, imho. Super consistent charge weights and everything else from all of my experiences. If you can remember where you read that, I'd love to read it myself to see if I'm missing something. AA5 is my go to powder for plinking 40 S&W and 9mm. Yours is the first negative I've heard about it. Oddly enough, I gave away a pound of 800x I bought a long time ago because it was useless in smaller charge weights through my pro auto disk due to its bulk. I'm going to give it another go for 10MM as charge weights will be higher and hopefully more consistent. I'm in the same boat with you on the single stage... technically mine is a turret. Of course, if I could load 500 rds an hour right now, I'd need a 3rd job to pay for components alone! Ha!

Awesomesauce! I got to hold one at On Target Monday. It's hilariously huge... and I want one so bad! Hahahahahaha!

I hit the Reloader's Bench in Mt Juliet last Saturday. They had more powder on the shelf than I had seen in years. I grabbed some 800x and HS6, but no longshot to be had. Almsot grabbed Autocomp, but realized I got a can of that last time but hadn't cracked it open yet. Side note, prices were very reasonable again. I remember $30-35/lb a few years ago. Before all the madness most things were $18-21/lb, this weekend things were $21-25/lb. Fair enough for me. I have to clean out the garage this week... can't hardly get to the reloading bench, haha! That's the way it always works for me. I reload in the winter months and then shoot it all up over the summer. I'm coming towards the end of my blasting ammo stash, so it's time to get to work.

Meh. It's a fun round. Screw logic and all that crap. What place does that have in a hobby? Haha! I just got into 10MM last fall and love it. If i used logic, I never would have gotten it. Harder to find, more expensive, all the things you just stated about 357 Sig. I love it anway. In fact, because of this thread, I'll probably be ordering 357 Sig conversion barrels for my 3 M&P 40s, a compact, full size, and Pro. I have 19 40 cal mags between them that will already work. $450 dollar's worth of barrels and I have 3 new 357 Sigs! I already have a 9mm barrel for the full size, and the swappability is just awesome. I let new shooters start off with the 9, and then go 40 when they're comfy. It'll be sweet to hop over to 357 Sig. Party on dudes!

I'll just reaffirm the 308 suggestions. I know you're not a fan, but I have a S&W M&P10 and am pleased as punch with it. Just something about a mag full of 25rds of 308 and the ability to drop them where you want them just a second or two apart makes me happy deep down inside! However, when it comes to bolt guns I differ from most. I don't like the decades-long horror stories of Remington's 700 action AD'ing. Maybe it's just cuz there's so many, but I don't personally feel that's the case. I vote Savage 111/110 or Tikka T3.

Ahhhh 10MM.... that's pretty much the only thing that'll trick me into playing the pistol caliber AR game! :D

Lol! The Winery Dogs, a supergroup composed of drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, and adjunct with probably 150 other bands in the last 30+ years) Billy Sheehan on bass (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth, Steve Vai, solo career, etc) and Ritchie Kotzen singing and playing guitar (played for Poison and some others, but don't hold that against him, he's actually flippin' great!) They just released their second album and it's great!

I'm hoping to go to a concert on the 20th, but there's about a 30% chance that'll happen. If not, I'll most likely be there. :-)
-
Oopsie! Yup.
-
Ditto the above. And Netflix just loaded season 3, which we are almost finished watching while our DVR queues up Season 4 for us. We just started watching it this summer. I still miss Burn Notice, but I like this show, too. :-D

Flippin sweet dude! I'm not a Glock fan, but I'll have one of those probably early next year. Range report!!
