  1. Haha! Thankfully, we are looking to plant on the opposite side of the yard. ;-) I couldn't deal with that crap, lol!
  2. Good to know! No cedar in my area, so we're good there.
  3. Wifey and I are wanting to put something in the frontyard to make the place a little more inviting. We have a pretty steeply sloped front yard. She just wants something that blossoms, while I'd like something that may actually bear some edible fruit over time. I've done a little reading and it seems that most fruit trees (apples, etc) require lots of buddies around for pollination to produce. Is there anything that does a little better as a stand-alone? Also, I'm wanting to keep it in the small-medium size range. Our yard isn't huge and I don't want it up agains the house in 5 years. It'll be planted about 25 feet from the front of the house. Let's hear it!
  4. 10mm carbine FTW! Kinda curious about the Schmeisser pistol. If it's got a sweet trigger, I may look into it.
  5. Congrats on the Smith! Whenever I DO finally get a 1911, it's going to be a Smith E Series. Enjoy!
  6. Proud young man, right there! Great!
  7. Easy guideline... if you draw my name, I'll take a nice 1911 or a Savage Trophy Hunter in 308. :-) But seriously, it's usually pretty wide-open. Obviously, if it's gun related that would be cool. It sounds like we'll have enough time once we receive the name of our "target" that you'll be able to "scope out" an idea of what they may like by reading some of their posts. That may be hard as we have many members who read a lot but post very little. When in doubt, a neat gadget or something useful in general always seems safe. Maybe some defensive ammo in a caliber you've read they carry? I've already got a couple little items in mind, and will get something nicer tailored to the recipient once I get his or her name. I really love this TGO tradition!
  8. Ditto Willis and Nightrunner on the S&W Knives. And that's hard for me to say as I'm a HUGE Smith fan... so say a pile of my pistols and the Tshirts in my closet. I've had 7 or 8 S&W knives from $10-$80. All junk. Taylor Brands makes all their stuff, I believe. Like Nightrunner said, great at first but no lasting quality. I hope your experience is different... but I doubt it. :/
  9. Dang! That's a great berfday haul! Congrats!
  10. No. AT&T U-Verse is... uh... AT&T U-verse. Completely different company, completely different product. We may have gone with them, but U Verse is not available in our neighborhood for some reason. More capacity than Comcast's box, smoother and faster operation, easier fast forward/reverse/scanning, can record more shows at a time, multi-room capability
  11. Just fyi, TDS has a bunch of on demand stuff, and the DVR is a bazillion times better than comcast's.
  12. Sorry for the trouble, Kevin. I purchased from Midway a few times years ago, but that was it. High shipping and generally high prices just took them out of the running for me. As to Comcast, the best way to deal with them is dump them. We've gone to TDS, saved almost $50/month, got faster internet, and better DVR. Charlie Sheen calls that winning.
  13. I have bought 5 sets from Discount Tire (not to be confused with Tire Discounters, who seem to usually carry off-brand tires more than the good stuff) in Smyrna and have been more than happy each time. They also do all my tire rotations and have fixed 3 flats for me. They provide those services free of charge to anyone, regardless of where you purchased your tires. On one particular occasion I wanted a specific tire for an upcoming road trip. The closest store that had it in stock was in Texas. We had already agreed on a price when they realized they would have to get them here via 2 day shipping. They honored the price we agreed upon and ate the additional expense.
  14. In the last month I have bought Federal 50rd and CCI Blazer 50 rd boxes at $2.29 each, CCI Standard Velocity at $3.49, Federal Automatch 325 at $17.99, and 500 Remington Thunderturds at $21.99. That tells me the factories have not raised their pricing to meet the gougers.
  15. Loved 'em! Haha! Still laughing about the little cop in the breathalyzer box, lol!
  16. Are they here yet?!?!?! Just kiddin'! I'm so excited about this knife! More excited than I have been for any of the others so far, actually, and I have and love all of them! Funny enough, I'm going to Gatlinburg this weekend and will of course I'll make the obligatory stop at Smoky Mountain Knife Works... maybe I'll just get some jerky or something, haha!
  17. Holy Shnikes! I've been reloading for a decade now, and have never bought powder at $10.99/lb! Whew! My Academy didn't have powder yet last week. Just start3d with basic reloading supplies last year, but not much to write home about. Maybe that'll change! As it is now, I have to drive 30 minutes up or down I24 to get a good powder selection. :/

    Cheap Thrills

I haven't shot the plastic framed SAR/Witness guns but I love my steel and aluminum framed versions in 10MM! Granted, they are twice the $300 entry into this discussion, but I very well may pick up a plastic in 9. I wouldn't expect one to last in 10mm, though.

Smith SD series. Though after tax it may be 315 OTD. Academy runs them at 279 every now and then.
  20. I love blue. It's my favorite color, and that is a great piece you've made! Absolutely beautiful. Benchmade has a few with that black/blue G10... have one in a shopping cart right now... juuuuussst waiting. ;-)
  21. I don't know about what I may be getting (probably not much) but I'm going to get some kind of carry gun for wifey. She just took her permit course last weekend and will be applying at the DMV next week. Maybe another Shield, maybe a J frame, I haven't decided. It would be nice to add something different to the mix, even if just for options' sake.
  22. Sorry. Pointless post. I should stay off TGO when I'm this tired, lol!
  23. Only slightly related: https://youtu.be/oYYdF0zcuSI
