  1. As for the ammo cans; yea, sure. I use them all. Milsurp, plastic, shallow, deep, MTM ammo crates, whatever. I have more ammo than container space, so I grab a few of whatever I find at a good price... often. My "go boxes" with premium stuff in the calibers I'd take if I had to leave quickly are all milsurp 30 and 50 cal cans. I figure those metal handles are more durable under all that weight than plastic when being handled roughly. I keep those inside and climate controlled. The garage has some plastic ammo cans with cheap plinking stuff in them. I don't keep any metal cans out there due to what I perceive to be a greater propensity for metal to sweat and rust in an environment where temps swings from about 55-90 degrees can happen throughout the year, with accompanying changes in humidity. My garage is not climate controlled, but is surrounded by living on two sides, and above. I feel plastic offers advantages in that scenario. Again, it's just plinking/overflow ammo that goes out there. Our next home will hopefully offer me more interior volume and useable space. It's getting where I really need two man-caves... one for guitar stuff and one for gun stuff.
  2. I think he meant he tumbles the AMMO with wax. I tumble my brass this way when I load and it's great, imho. Slick, shiny surface that just glides through the dies, and a protective coat on the ammo that helps diminish/reduce tarnishing/corrosion. I haven't made the jump to tumbling loaded ammo yet myself. I know it's most likely no biggie, I just have a personal fear of changing the burn rate of a propellant by possibly altering it's given granular shape/size through tumbling. I know all the arguments, I'm just not quite ready to go there yet. However, I don't think anyone is crazy for making that choice, either.
  3. Merry Christmas!
  4. Haha! That's why I went M&P... they're sensitive to my needs and feelings. All of them understand me, and we communicate well. And you'd think a bunch of Cali hippies would be in touch with their sensitive side?! Ha!
  5. I don't want the glock guys to have all the fun, lol! Here are my EAA Witness 10MMs. Top is an Elite Match, bottom in a standard Witness. The Elite Match is a total sleeper... around $750 for a super sweet 3.5-4lb trigger and awesome fit and finish right out of the box. Just upgrade to a 20+lb recoil spring, they're stupid undersprung. The best groups I've ever shot have been with that gun. The standard Witness is just average.
  6. It all goes boom for me. Shoots just a hair outside of MOA out of my M&P10, but I'm sure a better shooter reign that in some more. I got no complaints. I'm about halfway through my second case, and just wish I had bought everything I saw when it was $7/box. :/
  7. Eazy. Pick up a box of an average box of 10 and 45. Most 10mm I see on the shelf is 180gr and $31-$35. Of course, we could skew things and use 185gr 45 and 200gr 10MM. :-) Then it's all craycray!
  8. Just realized you said he already has a lever gun. Well... it needs a big brother!
  9. I dunno if there's any shotgun that's more fun than a lever 357. I have a Marlin 1894C in 357, and a few different shotguns, pumps, semi, and single. I'd be ok if I had to sell/trade any of the shotties, but the 357 would be really tough. If you hand load, light 38s are literally like shooting 22s if you use a stupid light load like 2.8gr Bullseye under whatever bullet. Hot 357s can be a hoot! A 158gr jhp/jsp over a case full of H100 or 2400 is just lots and lots of fun. I don't think I have more fun with any other gun than when I'm popping bowling pins with that Marlin. Go lever. It's not tacticool, but it's different and just so much fun. I think it's also cool for younger folks to use something that's so involving, meaning learning the skills to efficiently load a mag tube and work that lever.
  10. Oh my goodness, I had a huge post almost done and lost it when I had to take a phone call. This sounds like a copout, but I don't have time to type it all out again. Gotta finish packing and get ready to head to FL. Sincerest thanks, Secret Santa. It means a lot to me the effort and thought put into it. I also appreciate going above and beyond on the value. I know what that stuff is worth. ;-)
  11. My secret Santa wins the internet! Not only because what he/she sent was exactly what I needed and more, but because a 3rd item had me perplexed at first, and then literally bent over laughing once I saw why they sent what they sent! Also, this has been a pretty crazy/terrible weekend, and I am now packing to head to FL to help take care of my Dad who was dead for awhile (heart attack) and will need some care over the next week or so at least that my Mom isn't able to provide. It's been emotional and draining, and just beginning. I'll get to pics and the story later if I can, but Santa, thank you. Sincerely. You've given me a few moments of sheer delight, surprise, and laughter I didn't expect today. I'm even breathing easier than I have all weekend. Thank YOU!
  12. Hardly EVER the case, in my experience. I've never been in a store that carries extra mags for EVERY new gun they have for sale. The hot sellers, sure.
  13. F'real! I almost said that earlier. 10mm takes significantly less materials to produce than 45, and only a little more brass than to make 40, yet target grade 10mm is generally 30% more than 45, and about twice the price of 40. Nearly triple 9mm.
  14. https://youtu.be/cu7QT6lQZeU Final installment of our "commercials" for our Christmas play "When Christmas Left Rattler Canyon" 6pm tomorrow night. All are welcome. 401 Overton Dr, Smyrna, TN 37167 Second one: https://youtu.be/2b8bCcveu20 First one: https://youtu.be/SY052m0pRqc
  15. Thanks folks. Latest update: the cath showed no new damage (had 3 stents put in this spring) they think, but they don't quite know how long he was out. They'll stop the sedation in the morning and begin running more tests. There is a real chance of serious brain damage, etc. Mom has friends down in Miami with her, and her brother, who is a retired heart surgeon himself, is staying at the house with her. We had a good talk a bit ago and she told me to stay here for now.
  16. Just got a call from my Mom that, while sharing memories at a dear family friend's funeral, my Dad had a heart attack. Currently in the hospital, sedated, doing tests. They're at home in Miami, FL. The plan this Christmas was for family from NH, KS, FL, and DE to all meet at my house for the very first time ever. Now we're all scrambling, trying to figure out how/when to go down. Do we drop everything and go now or wait for more tests? I don't know.
  17. Lol! I'm happy when I can go to the range with half a dozen or so guns, have a bag full of mags already loaded, shoot around 3-400 rounds, and never have to reload a mag while I'm there. Sometimes I don't bring any ammo in boxes to the range at all. Once the mags are dry, go home. Still takes a couple hours. :/
  18. Lol! We're a DINK couple (dual income, no kids) Neither of us makes a ton but we're happy. I hadn't gotten much lately, but Thanksgiving week I helped myself to 3 new pistols and 2 shotguns. I figured if I gotta pay for that $10 bg check, I oughtta make it worth it! Three of them were gifts, but whatever. I haven't gifted them yet, so they're still mibe, haha! And two of them are presents for wifey, so those get to stay home, too. I've got some beautiful guns I've wanted "for her." It's a truly great trick! "Oh baby! Look at this sweet gun I just got... for you!" ;-D
  19. Being a member of another "boring" family, I completely understand and agree!
  20. I have the M&P10 and flippin' love it. Of course, the milspec trigger was the first thing to go. Yuck. Put a 3.5lb single stage in it and AWESOMESAUCE! Super happy. Even with a crummy shooter behind the trigger it's right at 1-1.25 MOA with that cheap ZQI stuff from WalMart. I imagine with a good shooter and match ammo, it'd be a tack driver. From what I've read, Smith makes a killer barrel. I've only shot out to 200 yds so far. Never a jam or a hiccup yet, and I'd guess I've got about 600 rds through it. I'm a righty, but I love the fully ambi controls. Super convenient. It takes pmags. It's kinda' awesome to have 25rds of 308 in a magazine! I've never served in the military and have no experience with many of the other rifles mentioned. I've had/have a bunch of ARs and love that platform, so the M&P10/AR10 just makes sense for me. I'm very comfortable with it and it makes me happy. :-)
  21. I lol'd.
  22. Like Pete... AR tools would be great for me. I have an AR wrench, but could use roll-pin starter punches, or a magwell block (for mounting the gun on a vise) or the armorer's block for holding an upper for assembly. Other than that, heck... anything's cool. :-)
  23. Precisely why I posted. In fact, OP's thoughts were actually contrary to this. That's why I wanted to clarify some details. Here's the post that prompted the info I shared: "Thought a heavier spring might need a more powerful (higher quality) round to cycle reliably. I might get that spring pack with a couple lower lb Springs and just see what happens compared to stock. Maybe the lighter spring would need less energy to cycle and could use cheaper plinking ammo? Don't know if my logic holds water, but the pack is just $10 so I might try it and see what happens."
  24. 32 mag. 32 long. A few others I believe. Kinda like 357 also shoots 38.
  25. I hear ya. Funny enough... I've experienced a home break-in, but never a car break-in. Guess I should start keeping my valuables in my car, haha! I think I can fit most of my watches and the couple rings I own (high school, college, and wedding) in my cupholders. ;-)
