I think the biggest cost is profit and middlemen/distributors! Anywho... I just figure ammo's basically going to cost a lot forever, and I'm just going to have to reload and buy components when I can. I don't have the financial ability to buy supplies in great amounts and stock up right now so I'm a little bummed, but at least I can still shoot some. I've got about 10lbs of powder and roughly 4,000 bullets and primers spread among 38/357 and 44. I wonder on the local level how much effect a few people who have massive amounts of money who are purchasing tens of thousands of rounds at a time (I've spoken to two, and I don't know many people, so there have to be a good number of these folks) are having on the cost of ammo at our local shops. I know they can't give the stuff away, but I wonder if (like the oil companies seem to be doing) a lot of companies are loving the demand and price increases and also increasing their margins percentage wise, in a disproportionate amount to their cost increases. I'm sure there are shops on both sides of that. I know of one store who last year ate two price increases before raising their sale price. I'm not saying that any of these phenomena are good or bad. I'm all about a shop setting their own prices and testing the waters for what they can charge for an item. I understand that Franklin Gun Shop and Gun City are around because there are people who will pay more for an item. (But, I'm glad the Rabbi is around so maybe I can afford something when it's actually time to buy!)

wow... excellent choice for that graphic, Todd! BTW, saw you at Cracker Barrel this morning but you were engrossed in conversation and I didn't want to bother you. Good Morning! (just a few hours late!)

Openly carrying gun not a crime in OH
musicman replied to Fallguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Guys (and gals) I think you all are missing the much larger point... this officer's name is Dick Weiner!!! There should be a full article on that alone! :D -
Holy Friggin' Crap... (content warning for link enclosed)
musicman replied to musicman's topic in General Chat
Not even... it was a Kimber with the .17HMR kit... my neighbor's cousin's aunt's stepson's friend's roommate's teacher's boyfriend said so. -
Hey ya'll. I was killin' time today and came across this on Snopes.... http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/interrogate.asp There is some serious graphic content, so click the link only if you can stomach it. What's amazing is how he got all the way to interrogation without being patted down after already shooting an officer earlier, and that he thankfully didn't use the gun on anyone else in the station.:eek::eek:

Well I'm glad you're back home and made it safe! I'm still waiting until I can get a 642 or similar. Right now the smallest I have is that K frame mod 64 you saw. I've lost a couple pounds and now I can fit it in an IWB in about half of the pants I own. The 64 prints really bad in front pocket carry mode.

Cool! Now which center would that be? The Smyrna Town Center? I don't think that place is nearly big enough.

Best deal on bulk small pistol primers?
musicman replied to awdbandito's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
For 10-100K primers, I would guess that Powder Valley has the best deal for you on Wolf primers. http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/ 5K Small Pistol primers = $90 90/5= $18 per K If you are ordering 100K, I'm sure they could do even more for you. Here's an unbiased review from another user on a different forum: http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/570103904/m/6951037882 Hope that helps! -
Good lookin' set of pistolas you got there! So how do they shoot?

Hey, I resembled that remark!! Three years ago I bought my first two guns there because it was the only gun shop I had ever been to. On a Wednesday I bought an SW40VE for $399 (soon found out everybody else was selling them for $299) and that Friday I bought a P22 for $329 (saw others just after that for $289) The next week I bought 3 more guns elsewhere for much better prices. However, it was still the only range I knew and I shot there a lot for about 10 months. I scooped up tons of brass every time I went, and that's mostly what I'm still shooting, I'm sure. I learned to look past the prices (and not buy anything!) and enjoy the company of Jack, Terry, and Dan. Jack actually sold me my first revolver out of his personal collection, a beautful model 64-4 that I keep with me every day. Maybe he made mad money on the sale, but I still got a smokin' deal. Everytime someone pisses on Gun City I kind of agree, but still cringe a little inside. The guys were all GREAT to me (besides the guy that got fired for stealing) and taught me lots about guns and how to work with them. I have lots of fond memories of the place, and still stop by to say "hello" every time I get a chance. Jack had a rough year last year, with his wife committing suicide. It was really hard, especially as I was preparing to get married. He seemed happy for me, but you could tell it made it even more painful for him that here I was getting married, while he just lost the love of his life. Terry was a great hearted guy living with the sacrifice of his arm in Vietnam. He was also a great engineer, and took the time to show me the inner workings of any gun I asked about. Dan is guitar playin', liquor lovin' animal who was a lot of fun to talk to. We talked guitar gear as much as we did guns. Anyways, Gun City may have many faults, but I enjoyed my times there. I've found something good in all the shops I've been to, and wish I could buy stuff from all of them more often. That whole "I've got no money" thing is always a pain in the butt.

While I won't deride you for making yourself vulnerable and posting this question... no, I have never thought about a commune type situation. Like other have stated, though, I have definitely thought about having my own land and prepping my survival skills if Kroger, Publix, et al were no longer around. I'm 25 and started my insurance agency just shy of 2 years ago. Hopefully by the time I'm 35 my wife and I will be able to pick out and buy our "homestead". We'd like between 50 and 80 acres with a good sized town 20-45 minutes away. By the time we're 45 or so, we hope to have enough money to begin building our "castle". We're going for a target sq footage of about 4,500. I mean, you gotta have a full recording studio, right?! Anyways, I want a concrete poured center room roughly 18'x30' or so in size. This will be more of a tornado shelter than anything else. The first 10' deep will be general food storage, etc with a very strong door. Through that, a vault door into the gun room, which will be full of all kinds of nice revolvers, and plenty of SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, yadda yadda EBRS, shotties, etc. If we have the money, I'd love to build a 50' indoor pistol range with 4 lanes, and have a reloading room just off of it. I hate working up loads, and then having to test them at the range when I get time, and with all these people looking at me like I'm weird while I'm sitting there writing and they think I should be shooting! While my mind hasn't gone as far as yours, I'm probably a little closer to your idea than many others here. The funny thing is, I've never had the opportunity to hunt yet and have never killed anything other than bugs and the lizards I used to shoot with my BB gun in the backyard in Miami as a kid. I hope to change all that soon and learn to hunt. I am also working on my gardening skills wand want to be able to provide in that regard if need be. Let's say the poo did hit the bladed air mover. I think I would be OK riding it out at my place. I would let family (parents, bro's family, sis' family) and one particular set of very close friends stay with us, and they could help work the land, etc, while they are there. But while I set up a place for all of them to live and have them move down IN CASE bad stuff happens? No way... I love 'em all, but I don't like them THAT much!!

Also, Rabbi (that's his handle on these boards) owns/runs Eastside Gunshop. I believe he's got some great deals on lowers anyway, but of course, will also provide transfer services. http://www.eastsidegunshop.com/ I can personally vouch that he's a great guy, and supporter of this board.

I had a Mav 88 and only sold it cuz I desperately needed the money, and knew I could buy another one later down the road for not much money. I actually only lost about $20 on the gun, and I bought it new! Anyways, I highly recommend it. Sure, the plastic bits are cheap and the action may not be buttery smooth, but it never malfed on me through over 900 rounds of various birdshot, buckshot, and slugs, both standard and magnum. Pay twice as much for the 500 if you want the bells and whistles. I am not knocking the 500 at all... If I had enough extra money, I'd have one too. At this point, I would be very happy with another Maverick 88, and would not feel undergunned vs. the 500.

I think Rabbi has one of these in stock now, too.

There's a 51% chance I can make this one. I voted for Jason's Deli. Hope I can see youse guys this weekend! Oh, and unless I can find some time to sit at the reloading bench in the next couple days (not likey, the way things are going) I may not have much to shoot, but I can always hang out and enjoy the company! Hey, this is Rabbi's chance to make a meeting!! Somebody bug him!! (I think I've bothered him enough lately, so I'm not gunna do it!)

Hey, why don't we start a "Suck Up to the Mods" heading? That way we can talk bad about you guys all we want in the other sections, and as long as we post somthing nice in there to make up for it, we're good!

Wow!! Rabbi, I can't believe what I'm hearing!! You're in love with a Smith that doesn't have a cylinder? There is hope for the world! But seriously, 1911s are fun, and Smith makes pretty nice ones, too, even for the money!

Yea, the louder bang is more fun, but also more expensive. For what 100 rds of 9mm costs now, you can shoot about 850 .22s!! I sold mine awhile back and sincerely regret it. Looked at another way, 18 boxes of 100 rds of WWB will BUY your P22! (18x$18.50= $333) Just some food for thought. Enjoy your new gun! =)

That's GREAT! Congrats Dixie!! Sounds like you got a great pair now, with the P22 and the PM9. That is a fantastic price and no, you're not fooling yourself! Tell us how it shoots, and post pics!!

Alright, I was PM'ed this question earlier today: "Hey, you might know this off the top of your head. I have farmers renters, does this cover self defense (i.e. with HCP)? Thanks for the info post. I have had nothing but great experience with Farmers. My agent is the same one my parents have used for years (out of Memphis), but if I know anyone looking for insurance, I'll send them your way. Farmers is great stuff! Thanks in advance!" And here's the answer: "Ok, so I just got off the horn with our head liability guy in TN and is answer is a good one. It all boils down to if it can be proven that you acted purely in defense, or if you were just trying to kill the other person, possibly showing malice, etc. The other good thing is that our policy covers negligence. That means that if a suit is brought against you saying that you mishandled the firearm and shot the dude, we would cover the litigation, and any judgment up to the policy limits. The minimum liability I write with any home or renter's policy is $500,000. I am starting to put $1,000,000 liability on my homeowner's policies. An umbrella policy would also add to the amount of protection you would have in a case like this. Hope that helps! James." NOTICE: This is only in reference to policies held with Farmers Insurance Group. I cannot speak for any other companies and what they will or will not cover. Please do not confuse this with other companies such as Farm Bureau, Farmer Brothers, etc, as I have no authority or experience with them. Please contact your agent with any questions specific to YOUR policy. Thanks so much, ya'll!

Sweet!! This is what I was hoping would come of bringing this up. I was not trying to ring my own register, just bring up something important. I'm glad this has helped somebody!! Someone else has already PM'd me a question which I will post the answer to when I find out. This is doubly great because it is expanding my knowledge as well. Thanks all!
