Middle TN Meet & Shoot for June 2008 -- Saturday June 21st
musicman replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
Yippee!!! Awwww c'mon.... we had so much fun yesterday we should just have two meets in June!! -
Thanks! It's a hoot to shoot.

Aha!! Well then a gun show will definitely give you the opportunity to fondle a bunch of different guns. I'm guessing any show worth it's entry price will at least have the KelTec and Taurus guns you seek. The Kahrs are little more exotic, but most shows still have a good smattering of them throughout.
-
I'm in the middle on this one.... since you're planning on purchasing a brand new gun (that's what I gather from your post, at least) I'd probably take BKelm's advice and hit up a shop. That way if you have any problems with it, you know where to go for help. As for price, I usually see guns about another 5% cheaper (new pricing) at the shows. But, sticker price is usually just the starting point for most of these shops. When you get into collecting and are starting to look for certain guns no longer in production, then the gunshows become more important. Best of luck to you!

Don't wanna get blood on the steel if I don't have to!

Yea, it sucked. That, and my stomach hurt.... the mage blew out the bottom and bruised me good. However, I'm very thankful that I was not really hurt, nor was anyone else. It coulda' been ugly. BTW, Ultramax DID fix the gun (after like 3 months) and it worked just fine again, but after that it didn't feel like "my gun" anymore, and I sold it.
-
Yea.... that looks pretty stoopid. I do, however like my PC 629. I don't know if you'd call it a port, a muzzle brake, or whatever, but it's got a "port" up front, but not where the barrel is actually rifled. At the fron sight, it's almost like it opens up a bit to a chamber-like area. You can kinda' see what I'm saying here: Here is a top view: I have shot this gun back to back with a nearly identical 6" S&W 629 with the same box of ammo, and I experienced a slightly smaller amount of muzzle flip, as did the three other people with me. As Rabbi said, though, it's a dumb thing for a close-in defense gun. I don't expect to whip my .44 out of my pants (keep your minds out of the gutter) for defense purposes, so I don't mind the port in this case. But if someone told me they wanted to port my 2" 64-4, I'd slap them in the face right then and there.

Rabbi, thanks for saying that.... it would sound like cheesy salemanship coming from me. Maybe these cancellings were part of a grand evil anti-gun scheme, but there is also a possibility that these may have been simple market changes for these companies. I work with the fourth largest insurer in the country, and we do move in and out of some markets through the years, especially when it comes to commercial insurance. For instance, we are getting out of insuring most general contractors, as we have had increasing (and increasingly large) losses due to poorly trained and educated workers causing problems. We have been doing really well in the restaurant market and apartment complexes, and so we are expanding our market there and taking some rate reductions. Through this, we are drastically increasing one portion of our business, while reducing our exposure in other areas. These changes and moves are what differentiates all insurance companies. If we all followed the same trends and calculated our rates alike, there would be no difference from Safe Auto, Allstate, or any of the independents. I wonder if there are any other companies that are expanding their market in regard to firearms? There is money to be made there, so as these companies close that market, there will be other companies that will step up and fill the market niche in time. So.... there my two and a half cents.

Wowee that was a GREAT day!! The weather could not have been better, and the company was awesome! You all are a lot of fun to hang out with! Thanks for letting me share my guns with all of you, and vice versa. I also really appreciate all the ammo sharing, especially you Tokarev, ClutePC, and TheMark! Thanks XDShooter, for my first shots with a 7MM mag! Jason, that 22 Hornet is FUN! I'd totally be all up on a grill out at OH! I suck at grilling, but I'm good at eating! I'll help bring whatever foodstuffs we'd need. Here's a few pics I took: ClutePC and his new baby! You guys should see the targets he shot with this thing. Very impressive! Here's Jason and his Hornet, about to hit another bullseye! Here's XDShooter living up to his name. Check it out, in full blowback! Here's XDShooter again with a .44. I suck so bad at names... I really apologize, I can't remember your name, but here you are with a .44! This is Tokarev, shooting a 50 or so year old laser... I mean.. 22!! This thing was incredibly accurate! Alright, that's all I've got. Again, thanks so much HanSolo and Hunter for hosting a great day for us. It was great to meet some folks I hadn't seen before, and I can't wait until our next meet. I'll try to bring more golf balls next time! -

Hey Guys.... Does anyone have a bunch of extra clothespins for hanging targets? Literally three weeks ago, I gave away a whole bag of them, and now have none left. I'm sure there will also be someone else who might need some too (so I don't look like the only dork!) So.... somebody, please bring a bunch of clothespins!! Thanks!! -
Ultramax remanufactured ammo... 223 blew up my AR.... SEE! Before: After:

Clute: wow, thanks! That's super nice of you! Yea, it is fun to touch one off with that bad boy! TheMark: No problem, man. I've got some 44 in both lighter and heavier loadings, and plenty of 38s. The only thing I don't have any of is 357 Mag, so if you want to shoot 357, you'll have to bring some of that. Don't worry, it's no trouble for me to bring guns to a shooting range!! -

Yes, the Mosin will be making an appearance, as we'll be at a longer distance outdoor range. (On Target asked me not to bring it back. Sean/Shawn/Shaun told me the steel core ammo was blowing holes in their backstop!!) However, it will be on a limited firing basis, as I only have like 65 rounds left, and I won't be able to buy any more ammo any time soon. I think I'll bring 25 rounds. If I bring it all and try to save some of it, I will talk myself into shooting it while we're there!! I can never come home with any ammo left over for some reason! (Except .22... it takes FOREVER to go through 550+ rounds in a Ruger Single Six!) -

Hey Themark712, I've got a a 2" 38 m64, a 3" 38 m10, a 4" 357 m19-5, a 6" 357 m19-3, and a 6" 44 PC 629-4. All of them are S&Ws, and I'd be glad to let you try them all out. You can shoot 38s out of the 357s, too. All of my ammo is handloaded, so it may not represent or feel like standard factory stuff, but your are more than welcome to shoot it up. The only thing I won't have on hand are 357s, because I haven't had time to load any yet. If you want to buy your own ammo to shoot, that's fine too! I'll be easy to find at the range... I'll be the only guy there without an autoloader.... that, and I'm chubby! See you saturday, James -
Rabbi, my faith has been severely shaken!! Just kiddin.... I been thinking about something like that for awhile. I know it's a goofy lookin' thing, but I've always had a soft spot for the Para Warthog. 10rds of 45 in something that small is just crazy! Currently, I have no guns that take it up the butt, butt that may change! I'd like to get into IDPA or some such competitive sport, and I hear it's all the rage to take it up the butt in those sports. Guess I'll just have to change my preferences!

Nuthin' ugly 'bout an L frame Smith!! I miss mine... sniff sniff

Here's more votes for Browning and Ruger if you're buying a scumf... I mean bottomfeeder, but when I can buy a .22 plinker again, it's gunna be a 4 or 6 inch S&W 617 with the 10 round cylinder, pre-lock. =)

Tennessee law -- ammo storage, homeowners insurance
musicman replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sorry for being so late! I can't speak for any other insurance company, but with Farmers Insurance Group (NOT Farm Bureau) we don't discriminate against gun owners. Guns and/or ammo do not exclude you from anything or negate any coverages. The only thing to watch out for is that some fire departments will not enter a burning house that contains ammo or powder. Also, most policies have a $1,000 to $2,500 limit on firearms and accessories. I imagine that most of us have much more than that invested. I'd guess many of us have at least 5-10 guns, at least 3,000 rounds of ammo, then holsters, cleaning equipment, cases, and reloading equipment if you're into it. I have my stuff insured at $10,000, and probably should increase that, and I don't have nearly as much stuff as most of you! Call your current agent (or me!) to properly cover your guns and accessories. It doesn't take long or cost much. -
Considering new carry pistol: discussion of a difficult choice...
musicman replied to molonlabetn's topic in Handguns
Eddie, I think I've already discussed my love of the D-Dub CBOB with you. That's my pick, and I think getting it in 10MM is the choice I would make myself. I've shot the CBOB in.45 and it was great. I only shot 2 mags worth, but they were flawless and went where I was pointing. The only other 1911 I've shot that I was more accurate with was Disney's Kimber, but I think there's something about that one particular gun that makes it so great, so that doesn't count! GO DW!! Oh, you also need to buy it so I can shoot it! -
I've always wanted to do "38/357" or "357 44M"
-
You beat me to it, Eddie. While not the smallest frame snub out there, I have a mod 64 2" that is great to shoot. When I apply some effort, I shoot it just about as well as my 6" guns. ('Course, that's not saying much!) Like you said, pay attention and you can shoot them very well. However, at 50 yards and more, there is SEVERE bullet drop, due to the lower velocities generated from the 4" shorter barrel.
