Yep, I understand that. That's why I said voting record, not attendance record. Don't get me wrong, I'm voting for McCain, but I think it's sad that most of our country can be swayed by a polished speaker, regardless of depth or issues. I have done lots of public speaking myself, and actually used to compete (and usually win) in regional speaking events. Obama is a much better speaker. I still don't trust him. That and I flat disagree with him on most things.

Ya know, I honestly don't give a crap about debates. It's not like our politicians ever DO what they TALKED about anyways. 2 words: voting record

UM screwed up and loaded two bullets in a case (that's what they say) and caused this KB. No serious injuries, thankfully. Here's an account on another forum that discusses someone else's similar experience, as well as my posts about my story. I had a phone conversation with the guy in this thread, and his story is the same as mine. http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/570103904/m/1861066903 (I'm Musicmanbass there, obviously)

ugh.... you have no class!! Here's a before and after pic of my old AR, before and after Ultramax ammo, that is!

I'm with you RD. It was nice to be able to take my .40 out and not load a mag the whole time I'm at the range. Hey, here's 1,000 rounds of Wolf for $240!! http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/ammo-for-rifles/223-rem-5-56mm-nato-/p/223-wolf-55gr-fmj%2C-1000-rounds-/cPath/12_38/products_id/453 That Wolf stuff didn't cycle ONCE in my self-built J&T AR. Every round locked up tight, and required hammering a block of wood on the release latch to get the casing out after firing. Yes, the chambers were clean. I tried Wolf on two separate occasions, and all different types of brass cased ammo worked just fine, while the Wolf choked it up bad. I'm not here to discredit those who say Wolf is fine in their guns, I just want to let it be known that I had problems with it. Maybe it will feed fine in my next AR, and I'll give it a try again when I build another.

"All rise for the honorable jud..... sir.... is there a reason you will not rise?"

Welcome to the forum!! Thanks for your service in both the military and police roles you filled. I'm not an expert on any of the things you have questions about, but I do think you will get more and better answers if you post those questions in the "handgun" section for questions about guns choices, and the "accessories" section for wuestion about the laser, etc. Again, welcome!

S&W 40 cal what? Sigma, M&P, 4013, 4003, the list goes on... Don't worry too much about what we have to say, but whether you are comfortable with the gun and happy carrying it. Congrats on your new gun!

Thanks for all the input guys! I have decided to go with the Marlin, for al the reasons you all have stated. I'm going to work on load recipes now. I have on hand lot of Hornady XTPs in various weights. I prefer to use a jacketed bullet because leading is a PITA to clean out of that dang Marlin! Do you suggest anything different? Also, can you give me some scope and mount recommendations? The only scope I've ever bought was a cheapo bushnell for my 10/22. I want to keep this as affordable as possible. Thanks!

What happened? Hope you don't have too big a mess. I have a guy who is AWESOME!! He has done work for me and friends of mine. No one has a complaint yet, and everyone loves him. His name is Dan Strickler, and his company's name is Leak Free Plumbing. His motto is "Do it once, do it right!" Gotta love that! Anyway, his number is 615-424-6247. If you want me to, PM me your name and number, and I'll have him call you?

Guess he won't be singing this tune again! [ame] [/ame]

Wow. Impressive stuff there!

Ya'll are bad!! I thought I was nuts when I had enough mags to hold almost 500 rounds of ammo for my Sigma! I spent more money on that mags then the gun cost me! I've still got half a dozen mags for the AR I sold, and am holding onto those until I get another. I'd like to be able to keep at least 1,000 rds of .223 in mags once I have an AR again... just because.

THAT was awesome!

I'm just in a weird mood and want to know how many people on TGO reload. Please post in here if you do, and only once. If you don't reload, please don't post. Please don't turn this thread into a reloading discussion, but please feel free to start another thread if you want to. Thanks!

I just want everyone to know I've cut my hair since that pic was taken!

yea. I'm not too worried about the accuracy part (unlike some, I think I'M the one with the accurancy problem, not my guns!) but I do think there may benefits in reduced leading. Since I like to shoot hundreds of rounds out of my guns when I go to the range, this could increase my range-time (I stop shooting when the guns look a mess in the barrels, usually my .44 first) and clean-up time. That would be great!
-
Sounds fancy... I'd kinda' like to try this in my PC 629-4. That things leads like crazy in the first 2-3" of the barrel, no matter the powder or charge.
-
From what I've seen, pretty much all .40 bulges a little bit. However, I would guess that if you were to pull a few samples from the looser glock chambers and a few samples from the Sigma, and other better supporting chamber designs, you'd see the glock brass bulged to a greater extent. The Sigma has a much better design in regards to chamber support. I used to own one, and my neighbor had a G23. dropping rounds into the barrels and looking at them was simple proof of that. I'm sure you can find a google image of this very thing. HOWEVER, that does not negate the fact that brass that has been glock-fired and already shows a bulge has been stressed more than some otehrs. That stretching, and susbsequent squeezing back down to size in your dies is working that brass and making it more brittle, and less able to stand up to the loads it was designed for. There is now more of a tendency for a case failure with that brass. Will it blow up on the next firing? Probably not, by at least 99%... but do you wanna chance it? To be honest, I started my reloading journey with the .40 round. I don't have a .40 anymore, hence, no more loading for it. Before I did my reasearch and read up on it, I loaded whatever the heck I got my grubby li'l brass-scroungin' hands on. Lots of this was severely bulged, Glock-fired brass. (also known by the rectangular firing pin marks on the primers, versus normal round marks) Thankfully, God and physics kept me from a KB of any kind during those days. There are many who have shared this experience, and continue to load glocked brass in .40. Unfortunately, there are also quite a few accounts of those who were a little less lucky. I have decided now that if I ever load .40 again, it will be with non-glocked brass. And since I have not started swilling the glock kool-aid, I doubt it will be a problem for me on subsequent firings and loadings either. (M&P for me!!) Hope that helps! Sorry for totally just writing again what the other wise folks (miss you Mars) have alread said, but I agree with 'em!

Good catch!! Guess I should spend a little more time proofreading!

Todd, if you are in need of someone to do the menial task of funtion testing the rest of that ammo in your XDs, I will sacrifice of my time for the good of the police department. I'll even bing my own earplugs! But seriously, I hope the proper ammo for your guns is chosen, and that it never causes you guys any problems while your lives are on the line.

hahaha! Hey, I'm even wearing a blue shirt today! Maybe I should paint a big S I on it for "SuperInsurer"! But seriously, that's a pile of poop. I keep hearing stories like this, but I have yet to find the name of a company that discriminates like that. I usually ask about guns, along with jewelry, antiques, electronics, and collectibles for the reason mentioned above; there are pretty low limits built into every policy for special items. Of course, additional insurance can be purchased at additional cost! I'm really curious as to which company this is, and have a guess of my own. I don't want to bash them online, but if you wouldn't mind, could you PM me the name of this company? I want to find out if it is the actual company requiring this info. My guess is that these things come more from an agent's office more than a mandate from the insurance company. We as agents are the first line of underwriting, and it is in our best interest for profitablility, our companies best interest for loss ratio and overall profitability, and our clients' best interest overall as it keeps our rates lower to try and avoid obvious hazards. To me, that means a dilapidated building or one with obvious and extreme tendencies to loss should not be insured by a preferred company. This is a judgment call on my part before I even submit this to the insurance company. Unfortunately, this is the gray area. Some agents may have a personal vendetta against guns, or view them as a special threat. These questions may be stemming from that alone, and their carrier may not even know these questions are being asked, nor receive this information. I could be totally wrong, but it's one theory I have. If you want, I will look for an agent in your area that I know won't get stupid like that. Some of my clients are now my shooting buddies, and some of my shooting buddies are now my clients! It was really cool the first time a client brought me some ammo as a gift. That really meant a lot to me. (Thanks, if you're reading this! It's still my carry ammo!)

Good news. I grew up in Miami and my parents are still there. Last year I talked my dad into getting a Smith M&P40 for home defense. (oh, and it just so happened that I ended up with his old Ruger Single-Six... funny how that works out!) I showed him how it all works, how to take it down and clean it, and then put it back together. He's a really good shot. Anyways, I'm hoping that maybe next year I can talk him into getting his permit and taking some additional training. It was awesome, when Florida first passed that "castle doctrine" bill a few years ago, the Brady Bunch was all down there passing out papers to tourists saying things like "don't make any of the natives angry, they will shoot you!" I thought that was pretty funny... wish they woulda' picked a fight with some of the locals themselves!!

Congrats on the new product line!! I hope this is a god and profitable deal for you!
