He's scary... think 30 rounds is enough???
-
yea, I know, blue presses, yadda yadda... gimme a link to free cash and I'll get one.

You've got that right!! I kind of go through phases. I'll go on a frenzy and load a couple thousand rounds over a week or two (no small feat on a turret press!) and then I won't load a round for months... until I get low on ammo again! All that talk about reloading not saving you any money is mostly true. Thankfully, I stocked up on a LOT of components a couple years ago. I haven't bought ammo in any quantity for at least 18 months. The way I go through ammo I can't keep it on the shelf. If I had always bought factory fodder instead of loading, I would have been up poop creek a long time ago. Since it takes so long for me to load up ammo, it has made my supply last so much longer. At my current rate, I'll be mostly out of components in anoter year, so I hope to have some profit (and real spending money!) soon. It's also a real thrill to know that you're in control of anotehr aspect of the shooting hobby. Touching off that first homemade round is a real thrill!

Yep, I just sat down and did a WHOLE LOT of priming. I think I went through about 800 38 specials, and about 450 44 Mags with my Lee auto prime. Anyways, I'm glad I got some priming done, and I can't wait to get to loading all of these babies up! Tomorrow night will be depriming and repriming of 357... then loading the rest of the week. Whoopee!! Anybody else spend most of their day reloading?

Update: Surveillance video released from one of three armed robberies

"...and while he was stuffing the money in his pants, the clerk pulled out his concealed S&W M&P 40 and put four shots into his torso, immobilizing the armed man and stopping the threat. The clerk then went and retrieved the thief's gun while another employee called 911 for an ambulance." oh... sorry, daydreaming again about how this story would have gone if there were more responsible armed citizens out there. back to reality "... the suspect got away and is still at large with over $1,000 of money that will now need to be replaced by increased prices for the rest of the honest folks who patronize stores like these." -
I like AA#9 in 44 Mag, and am about to give it a run in 357. So far, I have liked H110 for full-house 357 loads, but since I sold off my 686 ad Ruger GP100, I don't run off nearly as many of those as I used to. I try to take it easy on my K frames. For those I like the mild (for magnum, anyway) loads of Bullseye with lead bullets. I had issues with getting AA#2 to burn completely in my loads, so I've just moved on from there. I use a lot of titegroup for plinking loads in all calibers... just don't yank that handle twice in the charging stage!! It's great because you use VERY little powder. I've got an 8lb jug that I've probably only used a pound and a half of in the last year. In magnum loads with slow powders sometimes you're getting less than 350 rounds per pound of powder! That adds up! My most accurate load in .40 was with titegroup. It wasn't a really hot load, and I wouldn't use it for anything but paper punching, but it was good at that! I tried Blue Dot for both 357 and 44, but I just can't get used to it. I don't have a chrono, but it felt and sounded very erratic, no matter how I crimped, and accuracy wasn't really there. In loads way below max I was getting flattened primers. It was OK out of my levergun in 357, but I don't like have "one gun only" ammo. Now there is a warning not to use BD in 125 gr 357 loads anyways, so I've pretty much written it off altogether. Hodgdon Clays (not universal clays) seems fine for light loads using lightweight jacketed bullets in 38 sp. It has also worked OK in 45acp, but not my fav. I like HP38 (same exact powder as WInchester 231) for 38 and 45acp. I've actually even come to really like it for plinking lead loads in 44 mag. Downloaded to a listed 850-900 fps it's a real *****cat out of my 6" 629, and almost one-hole accurate to about 25' for me, when I get lucky. I always seem to get one dang flier, and I haven't been able to narrow it down to a certain cylinder or anything... I'm just not that good of a shot. I'm going to try some 2400 maybe this next week. I keep hearing that it's the hot poop from guys who ave been reloading since before I was born, so I'll give it a whirl. Unique is alright for mid range mag loads in 357 and 44, but not any better than powders specifically tailored to those rounds, so I've got probably half a pound that will last me the rest of time. One powder I really like for .40 was Winchester Super Target. It was close in accuracy to my titegroup loads (this was out of a Sigma) but they took a lot of "snap" out of the recoil of the .40. Everyone who shot those loads liked them a LOT! Again, I'm not trying to extract every last FPS out of my target rounds... just trying to make a nice, consistently accurate round that I can shoot at paper. Hope that helps!

I suggest going ahead and getting the Lee deluxe 4 die set with the factory crimp die included. You may not need it all the time, but I promise it will come in handy, and it only adds a couple bucks to the cost of the set.

DOH!! -
Congrats!! What calibers are you going to load for? Let us know if we can help with anything. Have you read all the way through "Modern Reloading" yet? Since Lee wrote it, it's a good help for learning how to use his press.

I wish she would learn how to pronounce "nuclear". Other than that, she's doing well! -
I haven't bought any reloading components in almost two years, until yesterday! I had to go to Old Hickory to inspect a property, and stopped by my old haunt the Reloader's Bench. I've still got a few thousand primers of each type, and a good number of bullets, but I haven't loaded a round in about 6 months because I'm about out of my favorite powders. (They go fast in magnum loads!!) Anyways, I picked up a pound each of 2400, AA#9, and W231. I'm excited to get loading again! I hope to see ya'll at the range again soon!

I'd like to see better pics of the cylinder swung open, and down the bore. I'f you've got an SP101 in 357 to sit beside it, I'd love to see the comparisons between the two. Yea, I'm a wheelgun nerd. Also, .32 slugs are cheaper than 38/357 slugs due to less lead, so a gun like that could really increase my plinking time as it relates to cost. (I'd be reloading, I know factory .32 is expensive.)

For you, Eddie, I'll let it slide! -

I agree wholeheartedly with Eddie's list, except that I would changes the "any" S&W revolver to a 4" or 6" model 19. I think the S&W 19 is THE most perfectly balanced gun ever made. -
From what I understand, some of the parts on the Taurus PT1911s are their own designs, and not necessarily interchangeable with some aftermarket 1911 parts. Not a big deal if you like them the way they are, but if you will want to trick out your gun, it's something to think about.

yea... man I am a total loser.... maybe I should never get online again... my life is such a waste! IDIOT!!! ..geez.. I love this place! BUT... it was obviously new to you!

Wow, I didn't know they made a 9mm! Nifty! Pics?!

+1 Oh Shoot. There's a big difference between a featherweight aluminum or titanium snub, and an all steel mini-tank. It's all about weight. I'll bet your SP with 357 mags doesn't kick like your Kahr with standard loads!

I would love to have them, but I'm WAYYY far away. That's a generous offer, though!
