  1. Don't ask why I know this, but a Remington 125gr 38+p fired into a couch in my living room wasn't really all that loud. Neither I nor the other person in the room had any ringing in the ears at all, and it wasn't that big of a deal. This was a condo, and none of the neighbors heard a thing! Again, don't ask how I know this!
  2. She's usually gone to work about an hour before I get up, so thankfully that wouldn't be a problem for me! I'm sure she would, however, be quite upset at the damage to her cherry bedroom suite, though. Guess I better use a frangible bullet or sumthin'!
  3. Then it's still fun and games!! Whoe doesn't like blasing the crap out of electronics?!
  4. The title pretty much says it all. I'm just curious to see what everybody carries, what ammo they carry in it, and what made them decide on that specific combination. The recent discussion about bullet weights spurred this on. I'll start: I usually carry a Smith & Wesson Model 64-4 Kframe 38 special with Ahrends grips on it. I load it with Buffalo Bore standard pressure 150gr hard cast wadcutters, or Remington 125gr+Ps. I carry this because right now it's the smallest gun I have! It was my very first revolver, and I have had this gun longer than any other in my collection. Sometimes I carry in an Uncle Mikes IWB, but usually just pocket carry. I am also confident in the 38 special round in a defense situation and am very familiar and comfortable with this particular gun. In the summer I'll load those 125 grainers when there is usually less clothing to penetrate, but about now I switch to the heavier wadcutters. There's no hollowpoint to plug with them, and I am a little more interested in penetration than expansion. But it sure would be fun to carry this! So, guys and gals, show us your gun and tell us why you picked your ammo!
  5. anybody know where I can buy a yarmulke?
  6. I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies!
  7. Yea, it has tempted me ... but she is a great worker, and absolutely invaluable to me. We're working on "re-educating" her on how the world really works. She actually shares a lot of my ideals, but is swayed mostly by a slick speaker at this point. She grew up with guns and has done more hunting than I have, but actually believed Biden when he said a little while ago that "Barack will not take away our guns"... I politely informed her that Biden helped write the last AWB and has bragged about that in the past, with no plans to change.
  8. Yes, I was part of a "minority group" growing up. I was white, well-off, and not a thug. I definitely was a minority in my school in Miami. I was regularly stereotyped and denied lots of free money for school because of it.
  9. Awesome. The girl that works for me is a huge Obama supporter. She loves to go and prove how wrong the McCain camp is every time they make an accusation about him. I just printed her a copy of this and handed it to her, and asked her to please find the untruths in there... I really want to know!
  10. Cool. If that gun were a brand new deep blue, or a shiny fresh nickle or something, it just wouldn't be the same. It's really cool to see a gun go from father to son. Unfortunately, I'm the only one in my family who is really into guns, so I won't be on the receiving end of anything like this, but my kids will have a ball when I kick the bucket!
  11. I love that front strap checkering and the cool angled cuts at the top under the trigger guard! Beautiful gun. I'm a sentimental fool.... I'd do like David said and do just enough to make it properly functional (if you think that means making the grip safety work again, so be it) and then just enjoy it as Dad left it.
  12. Freakin' sweet! Man, I wanna get Christmas presents like THAT this year!
  13. Dang Dan... there's some brain activity behind that big smiling face of yours!! Are the Tac-Sacs in production yet?
  14. Nice! I've always wondered how that would work out... action being faster than reaction and all....
  15. G&L is in Greenbrier, up north of Nashville.
  16. Maybe I did! Just kiddin'! ...... maybe!
  17. OK Glen, if you are really bored and want to do some reading, start at page 94 here: http://books.google.com/books?id=wiiUeexIMLIC&pg=PA94&lpg=PA94&dq=marshall+v+fackler+debate&source=web&ots=rvsc8pQ6gl&sig=HlyV9yw8sQ6ptwkK1M_TNN0iIYM&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=8&ct=result#PPA95,M1 it's a WHOLE LOTTA info, but good. Hope that helps!
  18. This here is a biggie, and in the end it's all going to come down to personal preference, what you are most accurate with, and how you feel about it all. Generally, lighter weight bullets will have greater velocity and lower recoil than heavier bullets of a given caliber. Heavier bullets are generally regarded as better penetrators. Those that pitch their tents in the "light and fast" bullet camp believe that the shock of impact a bullet has is more important than penetration. They think that a "shock wound cavity" of some sort will mash organs to bits and cause instant incapacitation. Others sleep soundly relying on a slower and heavier bullet to dig its way through clothes, skin, and possibly bone to cause damage to vital organs like the heart and central nervous system. Now of course, look at total energy numbers when picking ammo. Just because a bullets is heavier doesn't mean it has more power. There are all kinds of loads. Also, I think lighter bullets tend to sometimes get up to a higher total kinetic energy due to kinetic energy squaring (i think) as speed doubles. In summer when the cothing of a possible assailant is lighter, I think it's OK to go with lighter bullets as there is generally less of a barrier. In winter, I always go for the heavier loads. In your case, I think 135gr is REALLY light for .40. I usually carried 180gr Rangers in mine when I had a Sigma, but I'm a big fan of heavy bullets.
  19. I think HeroGear had a used one in stock, and usually The Reloader's Bench in Mt Juliet has one or two in stock.
  20. AWESOME R1100R!!! Congrats! Those are freakin' sweet. I played with both of the DW CBob 10s in their case Saturday, so I've already seen your gun in person!
  21. fixie linkie? edit- dang ya'll are fast!

    Smith&Wesson 5906

BTW, I think Dan and Joe have a couple used 5906s in stock right now! Of course, they wouldn't shamelessly advertise that, but I have no qualms indoing so!

    Smith&Wesson 5906

Good gun. I had a 6906 which is just the next size down and it was a good shooter and didn't jam on me. I ran just over 1,000 rounds through it before another gun wanted me to take it home. I really like the 3rd gen Smith autos.
  24. Great pics!! Looks like it was a gorgeous day at the range... sorry 'bout the range nazis!
