  1. .44 Special is almost always more expensive, just because it is such an odd-duck caliber these days. Also, I don't believe it will cycle the gas system in the Desert Eagles. I know a couple folks who have them in .357 and even most factory loadings won't function properly in them; it's pretty much a requirement to handload for them. I don't know if the .44 is so finnicky, but I'd bet that the shorter OAL would cause problems as most semis headspace on the case mouth and not the rim, like revolvers.
  2. If you're talking about the one I'm thinking of, it is pretty funny at the end, actually! In the one I saw, the officer giving chase is normally a very calm, quiet, reserved type. I've never heard him raise his voice at anything, actually. But after being shot at his demeanor .... uh.... changed. The audio once the chase stopped and he got out of the car with gun in hand was pretty darn funny!
  3. Congrats, dude! Fun times, and a lot of work ahead for you!
  4. Hit a bowling pin with a magnum load of 15 pellet 00 from a 28" barrel, standing about 5 feet from the pin! THAT'S knockdown power! I had to walk about 20' through th woods to find the pin. I'm guess that shot on a person that close would send most pellets through and through. Oh... yea, 357 if you're confident in your ability to place a few critical bullets where they need to go, and 9mm if you think you might need more than 5-6 rounds real fast. That's how I look at it, anyway.
  5. I'd jump on 96 or 840 and head out to On Target if I were in your position.
  6. Unfortunately, I've been pulled over a few *cough, cough* times and the officers were always happy that I handed them my permit with my license, and when I saw that they were reading it, I told them what I had and where it was. I always ask them what they would like me to do at that point. One female Metro Nashville officer kinda' freaked a bit and told me not to get it out of the console. One Kentucky Trooper just asked that I would allow him to retrieve it from my glovebox, which I obliged happily. He took it back to his car, and when he gave it back to me after issuing my citation he gave me the ammo separately. The other couple officers didn't seem to really care I had a gun on me. I have deserved every citation I was issued, and every officer (save that Tenn Highway Patrolman on my first day of class at MTSU) was very professional and courteous. I completely understand their desire to control situations for their own safety.
  7. I believe FMC is a slightly different name for something very close to FMJ. I've seen some FMJ (usually handgun stuff) that has an exposedlead base, while most things I have seen named FMC are completely encapsulated in a metal jacket. Those .223s have me stumped as that looks like an exposed lead base to me. (Bad lighting in the pic, maybe wrong) Those 9mms look like the Winchester 115gr JHPs at Wally World, not at all like an FMJ/FMC design. The disclaimer below the pic on their site says it's a stock photo. If you'll look at their site again, it shows that same exact pic for 4-5 other types of 9mm Winchester ammo. I'd say those .223s are basically FMJ, and if I were to buy them, I would load them as such. (Of course, after checking bullet weights to confirm they are 55gr bullets!)
  8. I noticed a small slowing today as well. No biggie, but you asked!!
  9. Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't talking about Esmeralda (who is, in fact, a chick) though Kim Ahrends DOES have a chick name (but is, in fact, a guy!)
  10. DUH!!!! Sorry guys, got busy at work and I forgot to post the link! http://ahrendsgripsusa.com/1911.htm
  11. Thanks, Glockster! I was hoping somebody with experience loading rifle rounds on a Dillon would pop in!
  12. I've gotten some awesome grips for my S&W revolvers from this guy, and I've seen some of his 1911 grips in person... awesome stuff, and reasonably priced. Nice folks on the phone, too!
  13. Sundial!
  14. In general the .223 does need to be trimmed, but should be fine in the Dillon. FYI, just make sure to read up on the slight but important differences between the .223 and 5.56 rounds.
  15. I agree, they have great prices! I don't have any funds available right now, but what about getting together a group buy to reduce hazmat fees? I was a member of a saltwater reef club and we did things like that all the time. If any of you want to do that, I would be fine with somebody starting a thread with something like "Group Buy" in the heading and going for it. My advice is to try and keep it local (like within a 20-30 min radius) so you're not sitting on somebody's stuff for a week or more. Also, there has to be one point man who is the order placer and drop point for the shipment, and I suggest collecting all monies BEFORE placing the order. I've seen that go south in a hurry!
  16. I really like the sig line and think he should keep it... and I am a mod. I did not find it offensive, and I think the only way one COULD find it offensive is if they had no understanding of the events that led up to the horror of the Jewish genocides in Hitler's Germany. I think the line touches on a very sad truth that we are heading towards repeating in this country if more anti-gun legislation is passed. Even though I'm not a Glock fan, +1 Glockster.
  17. mine is set correctly and is correct.
  18. #6... have you checked out the RIA/Armscor 1911s? Brand new they are generally cheaper than used Glocks, and in most people's opinions a very good gun.
  19. I don't think the Dillons are made for larger rifle calibers like the 270 and 308. They'll be great for the handgun stuff, though. Most folks I know who load for rifles use a single stage like a Lee or RCBS. (Saw an RCBS on CSI Miami last night!) There is so much more like trimming, neck sizing vs full length sizing, and the huge powder charges that some of the progressive presses aren't as flexible with. Also, the single stage presses are usually much stronger, and that becomes a little more important when sizing things like 308, etc. Oh, and a single stage is a really cheap add-on if you're already dropping the coin for a Dillon! Take my words with a grain of salt (or maybe a PINCH of salt!), as I don't use a progressive at all.
  20. Are you having problems with AA#5? All of the Accurate Arms stuff has been great for me. I've actually been finding the Winchester powders to be a smidge cheaper in general, but that's just in my experience... I may have just found a bunch of old leftovers with old pricetags!
  21. Glad you're back! Where you been?
  22. 231 is identical to HP38. They come off the same line, and any variance you'll find is just due to different lot runs (if you don't believe me, do like I did and call Winchester/Hodgdon... 296 and H110 are the same, too) To be honest, I don't know if there IS such a thing as a good deal on supplies anymore. I shop at the reloaders bench a lot, and sometimes the powders at the back of the shelves are a buck or two less than the newer ones at the front, but they don't stock a lot of 8lb jugs either. I say if you find it, buy it. Trying to find it for $10 less could take you weeks to months, or you may never find it. Good thing a little goes a long way with those powders!
  23. Cool! Maybe we can work a trade when you get back. Be safe!
  24. I'd like to know more about that Swiss Mauser! I was a dummy for not getting the one I had in my hands at the Reloader's Bench a couple years ago. Beautiful guns!
  25. Here are a few choices from midway http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=136172 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=161066 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=137882 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=279088 For just taking the shooting portion of the test, I would stay away from +p if she is at all recoil sensitive. Those 148gr wadcutters would probably be the best choice, IMO.
