i'm going to play the devil's advocate here... which is faster to reload, a pump/semi-auto shotgun or an AR? if you have loaded magazines, then hands down that AR is. but after you run those initial magazines empty, which is faster to reload? IMHO, i feel its about as easy to carry loose 12g rounds than it is to carry 20 or so AR mags. also with empty AR mags verses empty shotgun magazine tube...i can cram 6 rounds into the tube and be shooting again before you can get one magazine loaded. run out of loaded mags with an AR and the games over. with the scattergun its not likely to be game over until you run out of shells. also with the scattergun you can tac-reload when you are at cover. only takes a second to keep cramming shells up that mag tube and you can do it while your hiding. here is my take, indoors grab a scattergun. going outside grab a rifle. now about the rifle, i love the AR platform. however, due to the cost of mags, its hard to keep 1000 or more rounds loaded and ready to rock. not so with an SKS. its very easy to keep 1000 rounds loaded into 10 round stripper clips, and very cheap to do so. 100 stripper clips will set you back about $35-40, or the cost of 2 or 3 AR mags. my SKS rides with the stock 10 round mag, not any detachable. it is 100% reliable with stripper clips. i know that i've only got 10 rounds on tap verses the 30 round mag of an AR, but the ability to have 1000 rounds on hand loaded and ready to go in the gun is hard to give up. plus the 7.62x39 has more punch than the .223. that hurts indoors if you dont want overpenatration...but as i said above, the shotgun is for indoors. the rifle is for outdoors... JMHO...

so only a $5 tax? not the $200? how much did the 870 set you back? maybe its more doable than i thought. what makes it an AOW and not an SBS?

that is sweet!!! i want an SBS double barrel, just cant get myself to do the paperwork and pay for one... guess i'll just have to be content with shooting 18" barrels...

i'm a levergun man myself...always have loved them. Marlins are my favorite, followed by Winchester's. i have a Marlin 1894 in .357 and i absolutely love it! i mounted a Williams peep sight on it and it is killer fun at the range. i'd love to add a .44mag to my collection of levers that matches my .357, but never can find one when i have the funds available... here is a pic of my 1894 .357:

i have a few red dots, i love them. i have a Bushnell 30mm (~$60), a Millett SP-1 (~$100), a real cheapy BSA 30mm from walmart (~$30), and i like the Bushnell about the best for the money. i will say that the Millett is awesome and will take a beating and keep on ticking. the BSA is a good red dot also, it tracks and functions just as good as any of them, but i just dont like the looks of the scope itself as it has the weaver mounts built into it, not a ring type setup like the Bushnell and Millett. i think thats just my personal preference though.

i havent mounted a light on my Mossberg 500 yet, but i'm highly considering using this mount: http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-deluxe-shotgun-tri-rail-barrel-mount-mnt-br003xl.html and hanging a spare Streamlight M3 that i have at the moment on it. i have a light on my Kel Tec Sub 2000, on a .22lr bolt gun for shooting possums/'coons in the trash, and a Glock light on my Glock 22 nightstand gun. i think i need one on my scattergun, cant never have to many lights and the M3 is already an extra...

anyone out there going dove hunting today? season opens in about 2 hours...i've got the truck loaded and i'm fixing to head to the field to get setup and ready. Dove hunting on opening day has been a family thing for quite some time for us, we hardly ever go after opening day but always get together on the first Monday in September for this... My cousin's wife will be joining us this year sitting on a bucket, they just got married in March and she is a real hunting & fishing kinda girl. my uncles and my Dad will be there, as well as my brother and myself and maybe one or two other cousins. its going to be fun!

it shoots awesome. this gun is very fun at the range, milk jugs dont have a chance out to 50 yards or so. at 25 yards you can easily keep a full mag of 15 rounds in a 6" circle shooting offhand...it does heat up quick though if you rapid fire it and the rails get warm also being that they are mounted directly to the barrel...

i'm not familar with the belt loop method, anyone care to explain?

Hey guys, here is my latest toy...a Kel Tec Sub 2000 in .40 cal that takes the Glock magazines. i've had the rifle for quite some time, just got in all the goodies i'd ordered for it and got them installed. i love this little carbine, its fun to shoot at the range, is very nice and compact to put in the truck, and is decent in home defense purposes (although i think we all agree that a scatter is best for that purpose...). the factory forend has been removed and 6 universal barrel mount quad rails have been installed. a folding vertical front grip was added, as well as a UTG laser/light combo. the red dot is a Bushnell and rides on an AR flattop riser mount, and the carbine has the Kel Tec stock extension installed on it (it increases the LOP as well as providing protection to the front sight when the carbine is folded). what makes this carbine so awesome is that i can share magazines with my Glock 22 and my Glock 27 with this rifle... anyways, here are the pics...

ok guys, here is a question i thought you all might could help me with. i know that because of the GCA 68 smoothbore shotgun barrels have to be at least 18" in length and the overall length at least 26". on rifles, it is 16" barrel length and 26" overall length. given all that info, can a rifled slug barrel on a 12 ga shotgun be 16" or must it maintain 18", as long as the overall length stays at least 26"? the only reason i'm thinking/asking about this is i have a shotgun only area to hunt this year. most of the time i hunt out of ground blinds, and a shorter barrel is much easier to maneuver than a longer barrel in a blind. with shotguns, the yardage is going to be short anyways, so i'm not giving up that much accuracy or distance with a shorter barrel. i know 2" doesnt sound like much, but in a blind it makes a huge difference... anyways, this is just some ramblings...let me know what you think? i think it may be safest to stick with 18" just in case one day i run across an LEO who isnt fully up to specs on the laws. nothing againts the LEOs out there on this forum, or anywhere, its just that i personally know a lot of our local LEO's and gun law knowledge isnt always a priority if you know what i mean...

JMHO but i would stay away from Tasco & Simmons (unless the Simmons is the Aetec line, they are nice). for around $150 you can get a very nice used Nikon. Leupold's are held by some as the best, but i really like the glass in my Nikon. if you must buy new, then i would highly suggest the Bushnell 3200's. they are about the best bang for the buck in scope optics today...the glass is right up there with the higher dollar Nikon and Leupolds. i've never been a "cheap scope" guy, but on the other hand one of my buddies will spend twice as much on the scope as he did the rifle its going on. i'm more of a middle of the road guy, so i like the Bushnell 3200's and the Nikons...not cheapys but nothing you have to mortgage the house for either... check swfa.com and also check there samplelist.com (i think it is, there is a llink on the swfa.com website to it). that is there used optic list, most of the time its trade-ins or demo units with great deals on there...

bobcats are legal, but they do have there own season...check TWRA's website for the exact dates its open. i dont think they are like coyotes that are open year long...

but a Ruger is better than a Kel Tec? no flames intended or needed, i'm not a "brand loyal" type of person. what makes one brand "better" to you may indeed make it a "worse" brand to me...judging guns by the brand is like judging people by there in-laws...not a good practice at all. honestly, i've got several Kel Tecs and i love them all. my P3AT is irreplaceable IMHO... even when i'm carrying a larger firearm, the P3AT is in my pocket...
