I see that I need to adjust my train of thought. I already assumed that zapping someone with a stun gun wouldn't get me in any less trouble than laying hands on someone or spraying them with pepper spray. Maybe I'm putting too much stock in the ominous electric crackle as a deterrent.

I spoke to them too. Nice couple. Bought an LWRC Advanced Trigger Guard from them for my AR pistol. Even if it turns out to be junk, I'll be so glad to get rid of that POS that came in the LPK. Plus, it was only $6! The guy right past them on the back wall selling Hexmags was a nice fellow too. He sold me a couple of sheets of rubberized grip tape at a small discount. I begged Talon Grips to sell me an uncut section of this stuff and they patently refused. I am glad to get my hands on this stuff. it's the only thing thin enough that isn't gritty to put on guns/mags IMO. It was a pretty good show now that I think about it.

Maybe a bad example, but...I saw a video online where 2 pretty big teenage girls attacked a 3rd much smaller teenage girl in public. Turned out they almost killed her, but nobody knew that at the time. Pulling a gun on the other 2 girls to get them to stop seems questionable to me as does firing a warning shot inside a public place. That's what got me thinking of nonlethal force to stop the situation. The sound of the stun gun to warn them to stop and/or possibly lighting them up seemed at the time like a better alternative than deadly force or filling a confined space with pepper spray. I couldn't sleep at night, if I just walked away and did nothing, especially if I found out later that she was nearly killed and/or permanently maimed in some way. So, let's just pretend you came out of the bathroom at McDonald's and your teenage daughter was that 3rd girl taking the beat-down. I know we can play what-if all day and maybe I've contrived too specific of a scenario that may not ever happen...I don't know. My brain just thinks of stuff like this sometimes and is forced to consider a solution. What would you do?

BTW...I see 1100+ reviews on this one, but I don't really trust Amazon reviews and I really really don't believe the claimed voltage. I also can't help but be skeptical of the quality considering the price.

I was thinking about nonlethal self-defense tools and was curious if anyone had any advice on stun guns. I think I'd like a taser better, but they're so darn expensive that I can't afford one right now. I have pepper spray, but there are scenarios, like contact distance, where it'd be stupid to deploy it and risk getting myself with the blast. So, I thought maybe a stun gun would be better, since it's cheaper and unlike pepper spray, it can be recharged/reused. I also like the idea that a warning crackle to ward off trouble won't land me in jail like a warning shot from a handgun would. Anything I'm mistaken about or overlooking? Anyone use an affordable model that you'd recommend?

finally started cooling off a bit (75 degrees) around 1:30 when I left

Already hot as balls (85 degrees, at least!) in here and it's only 10 am. Air conditioned my butt!!

I've wanted a JR Carbine in 9mm or 45 acp for a while too. Interested to hear some real people's input too.

You nailed the short-sightedness of most electric/hybrid car drivers right on the head!! Not only was the materials for their battery dug up from the ground, but over 2/3 of the electricity they use to charge the batteries comes from burning coal, natural gas or some other fossil fuel (source).

Let me see if I get this...these motorcyclists speed through the area where the guy in the truck lives and he believes this endangers his kids, so he thinks it's okay to try and kill them with his truck? If that's what happened, a more deserving headbutt has never been inflicted.

When someone says hippie driving a Prius, I get a vivid picture of the kind of person they mean. They could just as well be a hipster, environmental whacko, or some other kind of commie-pinko-socialist clown. Likewise their car could just as well be a Subaru or a Smart car or a VW Beetle with a flower vase. I know what kind of person you mean right away. I drove Kias for almost 10 yrs because they were good on gas, didn't cost an arm and a leg, and were surprisingly good safe cars. I'm blessed enough to afford to drive something more comfortable and useful now. That happens to be a full size truck, but if I were still broke and you saw me in a Kia, I guarantee you wouldn't think I was a hippie. I guess what I'm trying to say is if drives like a hybrid AND it leans left like a liberal, it must be a hippie in a Prius, LOL.

I think my sister is a half-hippie. She loves guns/shooting, goes to church, hates the welfare state, smokes weed, lives at a commune-like campsite in the woods, wears sandals if shoes are required, loves the smell of patchouli oil, and gathers herbs/flowers/roots to make her own medicine. I tease her, saying she's confused and doesn't fit in anywhere.

I used the Aeroshell grease last build. I love the stuff. I bought some of the little 1 oz jars off of eBay...quite handy to keep them stowed here and there.

Where can I get some decent holster leather?
BigK replied to jgradyc's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've made a bunch of those kydex/leather hybrid IWB holsters. I only used 5-6 oz leather once, because I had a Chicago screw holding a clip pop through the leather on me. I was able to fix it by using a wide hard rubber washer. Luckily it was a freebie for a friend at work and not for a paying customer. He specifically asked for thinner leather, so I tried it. Won't waste my time with leather that thin again for that style of holster. Hardware, like screws, puts too much stress on the fibers. -
In a showdown or duel like they do in the westerns, my money would be on Mr. Munden. Also, I've never seen Mr. Miculek shoot an aspirin out of mid-air. On a plate rack or any kind of real-world moving and shooting scenario, my bet's on Mr. Miculek though. Nonetheless, I would absolutely LOVE to have seen them side-by-side in any kind of match.

I'm glad some are having luck with them. I can't say the same. I picked up a scope on sale from them and it was 50% less a week later. Even worse, the scope went up $50 a week after that AND they'd bundled it with a Burris mount worth $80. To add insult to injury, my scope took 5 weeks to arrive. I should have cancelled and re-ordered the same item at the cheaper price, but I had no clue it hadn't shipped yet at the time.

great shooting alright, especially the DA shots at that distance...CZ makes a fine weapon

***UPDATE*** Well, someone broke into my car.

That is AWESOME news!! Kudos on your vigilance and congrats on recovering your gear. -
I couldn't possibly agree more on every point! They can't be good at what they do without our money and our membership. I don't give as much as I'd like to be abl to and nowhere near as much as they'd like, but LOVE what they do and support it as much as I can. Those gun owners out there watching us due-paying NRA members do the lifting are no better than the thousands on welfare that live off the sweat our brows through our taxes.

sorry to hear about your mower, but glad to hear about your son's initiative with the yard and his sense of self-reliance and protective spirit mine was skinny as a rail growing up, so I got him a reel mower to learn to mow with...sounds mean, but it cut well and he grew up big and strong

I'm SO jealous...would love to go do that.

I hope the a*hole that robbed your brother gets shot at his next attempted robbery and they recover everyone's property at his house after he dies.
