Survey says: 35 percent of Americans would expatriate
BigK replied to Grand Torino's topic in General Chat
Believe it or not, from a mathematical perspective having a sample size of 2000 and a population of 300,000,000 your margin of error is only 2.75% when claiming your RANDOM sample acts like the overall population with a 99% confidence level. The real problem with most of these polls is that they don't truly get a random sample. Conduct the poll in a rural area of TN or TX and that number will drop like a rock, I'd bet my best pistol on it. -
I've only been once myself. What a cool place! Wish they'd open a location in Nashville.

Your detail on the molding looks great. You got some great definition there on the Kydex! I learned a trick somewhere along the line, but can't recall where. I use a piece of wood dowel a little thicker than the height of the front sight post. I cut a notch similar to an arrow nock to slide onto the front sight and make sure it's long enough to almost reach the ejection port. Then I sand the side that will contact the top of the slide until it's flat for about half that length to help keep it in place when I use masking tape to hold it to my slide while I'm forming the Kydex. What this does is leave you with a nice sight channel that allows the gun to draw smoothly without snagging the front sight on the area where you mold the ejection port. If the dowel is thick enough, you can even leave the muzzle end open without fear of the front sight snagging there either. Hope that helps.

Heckuva cool story about these guys. The movie wasn't horrible either.

I have a great time on every trip to both stores. I'm glad to hear 2 great outfits teamed up. I've spent a lot of money at Outpost over the years, but EW is 2 miles from work, so they're catching up fast.

I could have used some spare parts last build I helped a buddy with. We were installing a Magpul PRS and it just didn't wanna go that last inch onto the buffer tube. I turned around to get a tool and he started twisting and pushing at the same time and nearly sheared off his takedown detent spring. Luckily it only deformed it and we were able to flip it around the other direction until he got a replacement pin. Don't you hate it when somebody says "you always find it in the last place you look"?

I'd love to have one of those ProTech TGO knives too. I got to see one of musicman's at a get-together once. It was a very nice looking knife too.

The best carry knife I've ever owned was a Zero Tolerance, but in all fairness I've never had one of the other 2 brands. I will say that of all the knives I own, my Spyderco with an Emerson-like mod is the one I reach for every single day. There's just something about that thing flicking open on the pull that I really love. No matter how fast an automatic is or how easy an assisted open is, they don't compare to already being open when you draw it out. YMMV I'd get the Emerson with the wave feature, if it were my money. Here's my favorite: http://emersonknives.com/shop/cqc-10/1410/

You guys who didn't have to hunt a pivot pin detent on our first try make me sick...I even knew the dangers ahead of time and still popped one across the garage. I don't see how it'd help but I guess I should have put a plastic bag over my head like OS does.

I feel the same way about all of the hyphenated-Americans.

That's the part about this whole Confederate Flag issue that drives me nuts. It has no racial connotation whatsoever to the vast majority of people and has zero pro-slavery to practically anyone on one side. Yet, on the other side we have people whose interpretation is being allowed to dictate what is appropriate/allowed based solely on how it makes them feel.

That was a good video. I especially like the stats about Chicago.

It's hard to tell my 9mm and 45acp brass from anyone else's, so I try to keep an eye out for somebody throwing theirs away. Once I tell them I can't afford to shoot much unless I take mine back home and reload it, I wind up with mine and theirs too. Even when that don't work, I break even on brass. That being the case, when I find deals, I stock up and that puts me at around $6 for 50 rounds when I shoot good lead bullets and around $7.25 when I shoot copper plated bullets. Anything under $10 for 50 rounds means I'm shooting brass reloads instead of buying steel ammo...that's a win in my book.

Pretty good example...reminds me of Orwell's 1984....thought crimes and all that.

Imagine a world devoid of any visual reference that anyone could possibly find offensive.

if the French wore cowboy boots...this is what they'd look like.

I started Falling Skies after they got picked up for a 2nd season. I marathon'd thru season 1 and finished up 2 just in time for the season finale. I didn't make it to the last 2 episodes. I don't see how a show could go from being that freakin' good to that miserable so fast. I've heard great things about The Last Ship. I may try to get caught up by the end of this season.

I got a DU-HA under the seat storage box for my truck and new quick detach bipod for my AR. Nice gifts, but wife had work and daughter was out running around with friends, so I didn't get much family time.

thoughts on Surefire's IntelliBeam Technology
BigK replied to BigK's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
If the technology works as advertised, I'd think it'd make for a good SD flashlight, especially indoors. Backwash against white walls seems like a worse problem than only seeing a bad guy and not also blinding him, but I don't know. I've never been in a situation where I had a bright enough light for it to matter. Also, I don't have so much time invested in flashlight training that I couldn't train myself to double-click a button instead of single-clicking it in an emergency. I've never used a weapons mounted light, so I don't know if double-clicking a remote button is any harder or even possible, so I can't comment on that one. -
I'd agree with 0.06" for the body of a holster Overall, it is probably the best for definition and it's pretty darn strong for an IWB holster. If you're making a holster with a kydex back and front, some recommend stepping up to 0.08" for whichever side you'll be attaching the hardware to. Even that won't do for belt loops, however, you'll have to have 0.093" for the actual loop material, since it takes so much more stress. This makes shopping for hardware a little tougher, because the screws that hold the loops on have to be long enough to make it thru all 3 layers and still have enough threads to engage the nut and allow for rubber washers, if you're using any. I like to use eyelets to fasten the 2 layers of kydex together, but the cheap/common ones barely work on 2 layers of 0.06".

I've been doing the same, but leather ain't cheap, so my box of failure cost me a lot of money.

I'd be very grateful if you'd share the links you found to downloadable patterns. I've had to resort to screen capturing stills from YouTube and printing them off...not easy at all to get the scale right.

I just got one of those micro lock s-biners...they are awesome!

^^THIS^^ See what happens...even when a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun, preventing a mass shooting...somebody, Uber in this case, still jump to the conclusion that the good guy needs to be the one that is disarmed.
