Our first has been joined by a 2nd, but I've yet to see either of them. My daughter is outside all the time and sees them, but they're gone before I can get out to see them.

Need New Carry Flashlight - Suggestions appreciated
BigK replied to crc4's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I have the Perun 2 mini and it's a good headlamp. The full sized Perun 2 is a bit large for a headlamp, IMHO. It's almost as big as that Warrior 3. -

I got the Perun 2 full size during a recent sale and it's got similar max lumens and the same proximity sensor. It lights up my whole back yard like it's daylight. -
Great gun! I have one too. In case anyone didn't know, they take standard CZ 75 mags too. That was a HUGE selling point for me because they're easy to find and cheap. GLWS

Excellent point!!! I suspect the social media giants will wield their might to stop this. Kids will cry. Parents will think the gov't is trying to usurp their authority. Maybe Hot Wheels and Barbie dolls will sell more now and/or kids will ride bikes and play outside. Who knows?

I read this today about banning social media to kids: https://www.allsides.com/story/technology-new-bipartisan-bill-would-ban-kids-under-13-social-media The Details: The Protecting Kids on Social Media Act, introduced by Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Tom Cotton (R-AK), would set a minimum age of 13 to use social media apps, and would require parental consent for kids ages 13-17 to use social media. It would also require platforms to adopt new age verification measures in a program overseen by the Department of Commerce, and would ban companies from using algorithms to recommend content for users under 18.

I have that proximity sensor on a few of my Olights too. I really like that feature. As far as the risk goes, I think it's overblown. I wonder how many people who won't own a Chinese flashlight are driving vehicles made in America that have had fatal design flaws over the years that have been corrected just like Olight did. -
The private version has been working fine since 2017 if your bank was willing to participate. When I think of how big this IT project is, I'm terrified of all the bugs, traps, and backdoors there will be.

Wait, are you telling me it was all fake? Well, at least I still have Santa Clause and professional rasslin to believe in.

OOOPS, got beat to the punch by @Garufa I hope it was this guy!!

@MacGyver The good teachers, like your wife, aren't getting the credit they deserve. The whack jobs we see on the news get all the attention. Like any group, the bad apples always spoil the barrel.

I agree with that statement, but that's not the bill of goods being delivered. In my opinion only one leg of that stool is doing their job most of the time. Too many parents are guilty of treating the school like a babysitter and only poking their nose in when something they don't like happens. Thank God for the good parents who pay attention and keep the school in check though. Without concerned parents look at that sketchy stuff they've tried to sneak into their curriculum. Luckily, most teachers are good, but the ones who put their personal agenda ahead of educating kids should be run out of the profession. Sadly, it's not happening because the fox (liberal bureaucrats and college professors teaching the teachers) is in charge of watching the hen house.

I'm not laughing at all. I learn about news stories that interest me 9 times out of 10 here first. Most of what gets skipped here is news I don't care about. Like @gregintenn said, I hear different viewpoints here too. At least they're as wide of a host of viewpoints as I can tolerate.

RFK Jr isn't the only one worried about what could come from the system: Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who tweeted Wednesday that a Fed-issued currency would “allow the government to surveil all our private financial affairs … enforce dollar limits on our transactions restricting where you can send money … [and] freeze your assets or limit your spending to approved vendors if you fail to comply with arbitrary diktats, i.e. vaccine mandates.”

What Is FedNow? FedNow is the first government-created system for financial institutions to send and receive funds almost instantly. Ideally, FedNow would ensure you’d no longer have to wait a few business days, or bide your time over holidays or weekends, to receive your money. This means you can make payments—your mortgage, for example—ideally within seconds. You could opt to send funds on the due date rather than having to plan several days out for an online payment to clear, or up to a week for a check to be processed. For business owners, too, this means faster and smoother operations. They will be able to send and receive invoice payments, for instance, in real time online.
-
Is anyone following this FedNow initiative? https://www.forbes.com/advisor/personal-finance/fednow-launching-soon/ Apparently in July the Federal Reserve Bank is launching a real-time payment system to compete directly with the current Clearing House’s RTP network that we've all been using since 2017 to process digital transaction.

With the exception of my LCP I download all my spare mags by one. I shudder to think if, God forbid, I ever needed to do an admin reload how hard it'd be to get that fully loaded spare mag into play. Maybe I'm compromising too much by giving up a round in each spare, but I'm already compromising when I carry my LCP instead of my P365 or carrying my P365 instead of my full size CZ SP-01 or by using a pistol instead of a shotgun or rifle at all. Sadly, life is full of compromises.

I pray you're right about his last part.
-
That's fair. I did notice how they try to present left, right, and center articles for each media story. At least they're trying and I commend that.
-
That was very interesting, thanks. I especially found this last part interesting. We pay lots of attention to our kids' (or in my case grandkid) physical safety, but we don't pay close enough attention to our kids' emotional safety. Example: my 8 yr old grandson got in trouble for saying vulgar phrase on the bus and was suspended for 3 days. I KNOW for a fact nobody in my house says that phrase. Recently he started preferring to use headphones when he watches YT on my tablet when I'm near. It didn't take much sleuthing to realize what's going on. So, we had a sit-down to discuss it my expectations for his behavior and to explain why he has to listen out loud now. First words out of his mouth were please don't tell anyone at church. That alone tells me he's embarrassed and knows it's wrong. I hope we don't have to revisit this, but I was a kid once and it didn't take long to learn how you talk among peers vs what an adult might hear.

They consider Fox to be far right and only consider CNN, Politico, Bloomberg, and NPR to be left of center instead of far left. I'm suspicious out of the gate.

glad to have ya, welcome

I'd like to know too, but I fear we're hunting flying unicorns.

Depends on who you ask, right? I'd argue there dozens of major news outlets that spin the news one direction and one major outlet that spins the news the other direction. None of them can be trusted completely.

My daughter just saw a hummingbird at one of my feeders! I'm a little jealous I missed it, but hope it leads to more.
