  1. I'll be darned...just read everything I could find about HCP laws and so far, like Punisher84 says, I found NOTHING that says it has to be in a holster. I just had to "not see it" to believe it, I guess. Once you get past the hypotheticals and what-ifs, I don't think it sounds like a good idea, though.
  2. I need to do some reading up on the law regarding what constitutes "brandishing" vs "carrying". Accepting that we are talking hypothetically about the limits of the law, not what's smart or common sense: A) I'd never have thought I could walk around with a pistol in my hand, legally. If I saw a person doing so, I would call 911 and definitely feel like he/she was up to no good. I wonder how many LEO's would drive past a guy with a pistol in his hand and think "there's a law-abiding citizen out for a stroll" ?
  3. Sorry to hear the crappy news, the owner did you guys wrong. Good luck with your search.
  4. I watched it this weekend and it was big fun. I'm actually glad they didn't let any plot interfere with all of the big budget action scenes. I wish I had seen it in the theater instead (big screen, big sound), it would have been worth it. Stallone's truck...AWESOME! Statham's knife work when they scout the island...BAD ^$$ ! Jet Li whining about being short...HILARIOUS! This was a testosterone ride for sure.
  5. No worries, I figured it out and picked up a couple of extra choke tubes this weekend before I took it out to shoot skeet, which I'm apparently not too good at. I hope that 44 didn't beat you up as bad as 50 rounds through that Mossberg did me, LOL. Cool, good luck at Tech. It's a small world btw...I went to TTU when I was just out of HS (lucky enough to get a full academic scholarship). My major was chemical engineering. Thank God I didn't have your commute, ouch!
  6. Well I went today and shot 2 rounds. The Mossberg only kicks a little bit, but I don't have any bruises. I expected to be sore or bruised after 50 shots with this light of a gun. Funny, my right cheek is more sore from the comb than my should is from the butt. Nobody gave me grief for using my cheap hunting gun. The owner's son (in early 20's) said he sees a lot of folks out with pump guns, so that made me feel better. I shot with 3 other guys that were there (crowded on Sundays). One was very friendly and tried to help me out, but I couldn't hear a word he was saying (earplugs). I'd just point to my earplugs and shake my head. He probably thought I was slow or something, b/c when that didn't get the point across, I resorted to just smiling and nodding. First round, I only hit about 4 or 5 out of 24. A guy that worked there said several times that I was rotating my shoulders instead of my legs and not following through on my shots. He seemed frustrated, like I was ignoring his advice, but honestly, I didn't feel myself doing it. I tried to stay conscious of it but then I missed more clays. Second round I hit about 8 or 9 and was starting to feel the rhythm on Stations 1 & 2 and 6 & 7. I still couldn't get my timing right on 3, 4, 5, & 8. The clays seem to cross faster than I can react, for now. It was fun and I'll go back next weekend or the weekend after that. I enjoyed it, so I feel compelled to get better at it. Edit: I lied, the next day I had a sizable bruise.
  7. I've been wanting to do this for years, but didn't know of a close place to shoot and didn't have a shotgun for it. I found out about Big Springs Clay Targets in Murfreesboro, so that part is settled. I may try Henry Horton too, but for now it's too far until I found out how much I enjoy it. I recently picked up a shotgun (http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/long-guns/45566-got-deal-shotgun-i-couldnt-pass-up.html) that I hope will get me started. It's a 12 gauge Mossberg 500 with 28" ported barrel. Right now it has a modified choke in it, but I'm headed to Dick's Sporting goods to pick up a skeet choke. Should I get a wrench or can I keep using a quarter? What I've found to read so far recommends an over-and-under, but I can't afford one yet. If I like skeet shooting, I won't mind saving up for a better gun. I watched half a dozen videos and read dozens of web pages about how to stand, how to mount, what hold position to use for each station, recommended break points. It's a lot to consume at once. What advice would you give someone on the main thing(s) to concentrate on first? Stance? Follow-through? Any advice will be appreciated.
  8. I finally unscrewed the choke tube and it's a Modified tube. I used a quarter to unscrew it, since I don't have a choke wrench. Will this cause damage or will it be ok? I'm gonna try shooting skeet with it, so I'll probably be leaving the skeet choke in for HD. Should I get a choke wrench anyway?
  9. My dad said a round hit about the tree he was sitting against and missed his head by about a foot and a half one year at a deer hunt at AEDC. He left and never never went to a "public" hunting area again. I gotta admit, I think about that every time I think of WMA hunts.
  10. +1 awesome show! Saw an episode of Gangland the other day. Lots of similarities b/w Hell's Angels and SAMCRO
  11. +1 Great book! I've read it several times and love the economics message. Ayn Rand had a different take from me on theology though. But good luck finding someone you agree with on everything, huh?
  12. I didn't consider deleting it (small hassle), since with Taptalk you don't get a regular sig line, like almost everyone uses. I guess it bothers some?
  13. I haven't looked for the setting to turn it off, b/c until now it's been No big deal. I'll hit backspace enough times to delete it when it bothers me as much as long signatures and 10 extra lines of empty space at the end of other peoples' comments. edit: I found the setting...hmmm turn it off? Maybe a poll.
  14. Did anyone else notice that she has one glove and it's on the hand that she's using to touch the puppies? I'm wondering if they were sick/diseased and maybe her parents told her to go drown them, so other animals/people don't get sick too. What's jacked up is that some sicko decides to film the act and she seems to be enjoying the task. Truly barbaric.
  15. Well duh! I guess I should've looked, huh? I guess I don't match up against you til the playoffs hopefully. At least I get 2 shots at whoopin up on State United Products Cleaving Lazy err, I mean Straight Up Killers:D
  16. +1 Seems the encounter cost nothing but a little of his time, so I agree. He handled it well.
  17. I didn't get it until around 7:00 last night. All I did so far was check basic functionality and finish. So, I honestly don't know what choke it came with. Maybe Keinengel can tell us both? As far as mods go, I really like the wood and the 28" barrel. That's exactly what I was looking for and it fits my plans better. I wanted an entry level shotgun I could afford, so my son and I could give skeet shooting a try. I'd like to use it for hunting too, but alas, I have no place to hunt and don't know anyone who does.
  18. Yeah, the DE was nice, but I couldn't afford to feed that beast anyway. Thanks again for the good deal and good luck with school. What's your major, BTW?
  19. Didn't mean to challenge your attention span The OP said the LEO told him why his guys don't OC and why he felt it's a bad idea. I was just sighting another reason that affects us more than just side scaring the sheeple. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I had no choice but to let the ranking pick for me. I made a few changes, but WOW...I've never had such a crappy fantasy team. I'll make it work though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I'm no chem prof, but you hit the nail on the head. Air is already 78% nitrogen. The extra nitrogen does little aside from replacing more oxygen and water vapor. They are the real problem. Water vapor and oxygen molecules are smaller than nitrogen molecules. Water vapor (1% of the air) permeates out of the tire 250X faster than nitrogen & oxygen (21% of the air) permeates 3X - 4X faster than nitrogen. Having 20% more nitrogen means tire pressure stays up more giving you more mileage. Tires lose air slowly, so by time we check them and add air, the damage is done. If we all checked & topped off our pressure weekly, we'd see noticeable increase in tire life with all other things being equal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I had a roommate once that worked at NTB. He told me the old bias-ply tires had to be rotated front to back, but most radials didn't matter. My factory tires were crap (23k miles). The guy at Goodyear says the factories don't usually use high mileage tires. The replacements have over 39k and still look great. My tires are rotated RF to LR and LF to RR every other time and then front to back every other time. This means a tire doesn't go back on same wheel for 18K miles. I was told this is optimum for even wear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. 5 yards !? How'd you get that close? Also, regarding the ticks...when I was young and would haul hay in the summer, my granny would tie a rag soaked in coal oil around each of our ankles and we never got ticks or chiggers on us.
  25. Here's a couple more shots, now that I figured out how to resize the photos.
