  1. "Refurbished" is kinda vague, since there's numerous things that might have been wrong with the product. In general, it's usually when someone returns something to a store b/c it's broken and the store returns it to the factory. The factory then fixes whatever was wrong with it and then when they get a full shipment repaired they sell them to a liquidator that markets and sells them back to the public. Alternatively, the items might have been sent to the factory for warranty repairs and it was easier for them to just send out replacements, fix the returned ones later, and then sell them to the liquidators. The important thing we want to know as consumers is that if all refurbs were junk, we'd hear about it and the practice would end. PC's are far less complicated or abused as cars, but who hasn't owned a used car? Most of the parts like a motherboard, processor, or hard drive in PC's come from one to three major suppliers like Intel, Hitachi, or Asus. The assembler may rebrand the parts as their own or in the case of Intel and Asus, their name is trusted so they take advantage of that as a selling point. Either way, no PC mfg makes all their own parts and they sometimes get bad batches of parts. They swap out the parts with good parts and the PC is good as new except it has been used by someone for some period of time. They almost always wipe the hard drives and reinstall the OS, so the previous owner's porn or budget plan isn't on the PC when you get it.

    True Grit,

I grew up loving westerns, except John Wayne movies. There's something about him that I don't like. Some of the plots are good, but I don't think he's a good actor. I'll definitely watch this one, though. I really like Jeff Bridges.
  3. These guys make me sick too and I wish what they had more jail time that that. Since the stiffest penalty is the trespassing charge, will they be charged for multiple counts @ 5 years each? Surely they didn't shoot this many deer at once.
  4. Dang, that's a good price for a HD widescreen! Thanks, I gotta get me one of them! You're gonna be set up pretty darn nice with that rig.
  5. If you like that deal and you're already warmed up to a .40 S&W, Bud's has the S&W/Walther P990 trade-ins for $319 shipped! It's 4oz lighter and I personally think it feels better in my hand than the Beretta.
  6. Don't tell Michael Dell I told you this but...there are over 200 Acer monitors in our office and they are all at least 4 years old. I bet less than 5 have had to be returned/switched out. We have some call center software that my team wrote that needs a 24" monitor and they didn't shop around at all, just forked over the bucks for about 100 of them from Acer. In all fairness, that was when Ross Perot owned our company, not since Dell bought us. Dell won't buy what's good, they'll only use what they sell.
  7. Look out Boogiemen, Rightwingers is tougher than you think. I misjudged some bench players last week and he beat me (Congrats, btw on that win, RW). On paper (projections) he looks like he could do the same to you. Speaking of the projections...I'm real curious to know how much stock y'all put in the projected numbers? I'll be honest, if I don't have a strong feeling about how a team matches up against others or some last minute scoop on a player, I pretty much start whoever is projected higher. I know it's fairly hit or miss somethimes, but would like to know how many of you do the same.
  8. I know a lot of folks here still don't like CheaperThanDirt.com, but I get all my 9X18 ammo from them. They always have the Russian stuff for $9/box (sometimes as low as $8). If you can't shoot steel casings at your range, their cheapest brass ones are $15, which isn't bad compared to LGS prices. I don't know about your area, but around middle TN, you can barely find 9X18 ammo under $20/box. I did run into some at Outpost Armory once for $15/box for Silver Bear JHP's. I've personally shot 15-20 boxes of the Wolf and Bear ammo out of mine and have absolutely no ill effects from the laquered steel casings. The powder's a bit dirty, but show me some cheap target ammo where this isn't the case. These guns are pretty darn rugged anyway and I've read numerous comments on the CZ forum that this ammo won't hurt your gun.
  9. compared to the bikes on here (ecept enfield's ride), mine is kind of lame, but this is it anyway...My 1979 Suzuki GS1000L IMG_0089 by Kevin Durham, on Flickr
  10. I used Brownell's cold blue gel, but it didn't get real dark... DSCN0685 by Kevin Durham, on Flickr The trick is to degrease it several times before the first application and use a hair dryer after each rinse to completely dry up the water and heat the metal for the next application. Not sure if this is okay to post, but here's a link to the site where I posted the project (Finally got some pics of my refinished CZ 82).
  11. Congrats guys! Those are some sweet shooting guns. I love mine so much I stripped it, refinished it and bought it new wood grips.
  12. OOH! I haven't read my issue yet. Thanks for the heads up. It was incredible and ironically, there were 2 of us from middle TN there.
  13. I think [removed by admin] deserves to be educated by a bunch of 2A advocates. I hope he doesn't wind up subscribing to newsletters from pillowbiters.com or defenselesswimps.com, b/c that would be wrong.
  14. I picked up a Benchmade knife a year or 2 ago that had been discontinued for a pretty fair price. I thought all their knives were made here in the US, so I didn't think to look when I bought it. It's a Red class knife with an Austrian designer (Steirer Eisen) and is made in Taiwan! I was a little peaved, but I got it REAL cheap and carry it every day. It holds a good edge and I like it.
  15. That is an AWESOME machine! That's a great processor too!
  16. here's a pretty darn good PC with Windows 7 64 bit, a better then avg processor, tons of storage, and 4 gb of GOOD ram for $390, which leaves you enough cash to add a monitor (you can get a 19" widescreen almost anywhere online for <$100). Acer Aspire AM3400-U2502 Microtower Desktop PC - AMD Athlon II X2 Processor 215 2.70GHz, 4GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com If you didn't need a monitor, TD has a bada$$ Lenovo w/ 64 bit OS and a screaming fast processor for $480.
  17. FWIW...I work for Dell in the IT department (no, I can't get you a discount, but I will offer some useful advice). Disk space (storage) is a cheap add on later, so don't get too hung up on getting 500gb vs 250gb or less. Get the fastest most powerful processor you can afford. It's the only part of the equation that you won't need to upgrade later. For instance, you get a mediocre processor now and in a year and a half, the motherboard won't be compatible with newer, faster processors. An Intel 3.2 GHz processor will be much faster than a 3.2 GHz AMD processor, but if you spend $200 on a processor, you can buy a WAY faster AMD processor than you can if you spend the same money on Intel. Also, there is a difference b/w dual core and core 2 duo. Both have 2 processors on one chip, but he Core 2 is a new version and is typically 15% faster than a dual core. Good choice on Windows 7, it is the fastest OS they've had in a while. If you go with the less expensive 32bit OS, you can't go over 4 GB of RAM. The OS simply won't recognize the extra. In fact, it will tell you there's only about 3.5 Gb of RAM available when you have 4 Gb installed. Both will run on as little as 1 Gb of ram, but the 64 bit will allow anywhere from 8 GB to 192 GB, depending on the version (starter/home basic - 8gb, home premium - 16gb, or Professional/Enterprise/Ultimate - 192gb). There's other things to consider if you intend to run advanced games. If so, let me know...I'll be glad to let you know what to look for (like support for SLI video and other stuff).
  18. Yeah, in case anyone has trouble with the video...
  19. I work with one of those guys that has to have the newest, best of everything. He has over $2000 worth of fine Wusthof Classic knives, but heard that ceramic is better. So, he went out and bought a $300 ceramic cook's knife. He ranted and raved about how good it was for a week until it fell off the kitcen counter and broke when it hit the floor.
  20. Another thing that would help the most...trim the damn rosters!! Having 6 active WR/RB and 6 bench players is what I didn't like. I think it puts WAY to much emphasis on the draft.
  21. Well, I shot up half of those Cowboy Loads this weekend. They weren't as good as the 125 gr Remingtons I bought or other GA ammo I have, but I'm glad they weren't as bad as the ones you got. I shot 10 rds at 5 yds & managed a 4" group & got about a 6" group with same number of rds at 10 yds. Since their other $11.50 ammo is much better, I won't be buying any more of these. I just thought I'd let you know how it went. You won't believe me based on the experience you had, but for grins I shot the other 5 rounds from 45 ft at the center bull on a Hoppe's A17 target (http://www.opticsplanet.net/hoppes-50-ft-11-bulls-10-1-2x12-target-a17.html). Admittedly, I was resting my hands on an upside down 5 gallon bucket on the shooting bench, but I was still happy to be in the circle with 3 out of 5 shots. One of those 3 was even 1/2" from dead center.
  22. Dude! That's a great idea. It would be an ironic choice for any parents, especially considering how it turned out last time I heard it was done. Also, like others have said, best writing ever & awesome cast!
  23. If we do this again, Cheese Heads will be in too, but I'll do some things different even though things turned out okay. For starters, I'll check in a few times after I sign up, in case we switch from auto to live draft, LOL. Also, I'll remember to set my lineup before I go on vacation, so I don't leave bye players in my lineup. It may have helped in hindsight considering injuries and a lot of underachievers in the league.
  24. Now that sounds more like what I'm looking for.
  25. So, would you be interested in getting rid of them for a reasonable price? If so, shoot me a PM.
