  1. AWESOME! of you guys to help me out so much. I really appreciate it. Thanks Bronker for finding that pic for me. I know exactly what you mean about the 1911 to Glock transition. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool CZ guy, so this thing feels VERY foreign in my hand right now. The important thing is that my son like it for now. I've got plenty of time to get accustomed to it after he's done getting the feel. I do like the sight picture, but "want" adjustable sights. Maybe I don't need them and maybe I'm wrong, but by my reasoning a target/competition gun should have them. After only one trip to the range I've already noticed how quick the "ball in the box" is for follow-ups. I don't know what you were shooting before that made you have to change your grip to accomodate Glocks, but I definitely know what you mean. The ergonomics on my Ruger Mark II and CZs are so instinctual that I don't have to think about it. Still, I manage okay shooting my .357 Ruger, so I'm sure I'll get this too. Priority one is getting my son up to speed with the new gun he'll be using. I'm sure if he starts off right, it'll be much easier than changing later.
  2. I went to the gunshow looking for a 9mm w/ a 4 - 4.5" barrel. I hoped to find a CZ 75 w/ decocker, a RugerSR9, an XD/XDM or maybe a S&W M&P. I wasn't really thinking about a Glock, but it just stood out for some reason. Hey graycrait, you got some b/a pics of what you did to yours posted anywhere. I can't tell from that lil avatar.
  3. My next door neighbor is from Michigan (the :poop:y parts) and I listened to him spew the same nonsense about how "you guys can't drive for s*#t in the snow" for a long time. He is also a OTR truck driver, so he fancies himself some kind of expert driver. HE HAS HAD 2 SINGLE CAR ACCIDENTS IN THE SNOW IN THE LAST 2 WINTERS. Both were when no one else was around. Mind you, he didn't volunteer this tidbit of info, his southern wife, who is as sick of his southern drivers comments as I am, told us.
  4. I didn't dislike the way this 34 shot, other than the POI, which may be me, the sights being out of alignment, or a combination of both. It ran fine, but so do all my other guns (including a Hi-Point C9). I may get over the "Glock-knuckle" with time or I may take the Dremel to the trigger guard eventually, who knows now. Anybody got an idea how much a G17 slide & barrel would cost in case I warm up to this gun and decide to try it as a CCW?
  5. Immediate area being south Nashville? That would be awesome!

    Dog Food

+1 on the corn AND the other foods to avoid...will harm them over time. Maybe not the first time or when given infrequently, but why knowingly harm the animal? I'd also like to add bones to the list. They splinter and break into pieces with sharp edges that can tear their intestines. Again, why risk it?
  7. I want to thank everyone for their feedback. Like I said up front, this was a free holster that I won in a Christmas Giveaway on another site. High Noon Holsters is one of the site's sponsors and they contributed this prize and I am very grateful to them for being so awesome! Dig this...I emailed which model I wanted and what gun it needed to fit on Sunday (1/2/11) and they informed me Wednesday that it was already heading my way (it was NOT a "stocking item"). By Friday it was in my hands!! Are these guys awesome or what? Their usual turaround time is 10-12 weeks, due to volume. My choice was ANY holster that sells for under $100. I chose a Slide Guard in black to fit my CZ P-01 and I'm very satisfied with it. I've been wearing it all weeekend and I can't believe how comfy it is. It fits my gun perfectly and holds nice and tight when it's on my belt. The height/cant are perfect for me and reholstering is easy/instinctual. This is my first OWB holster (not counting paddles) and I am now a big fan of the pancake style. My belt doesn't even feel like there's any load on it, which is a HUGE improvement over my IWB holsters that dig into my hip when I tighten my belt enough to keep my pants from sagging. Well, here's some pics of it... Slide Guard front by BigK Slide Guard w/ CZ P-01 by BigK Here's the back: Slide Guard back by BigK
  8. I saw a concho just like that at the Tandy Leather store this weekend. Ironically, I was there to buy stitching tools, dye, wax, leather, etc. to make one myself. I'm kinda like you in that it needs to be functional first, pretty second. I'll get better at the pretty as I get more experience, but I gotta get the effective part down right the first time. Afterall, leather isn't cheap enough to mess up many times. Did you find a patter to use or just "eyeball" it?
  9. It feels more like the square edge of the side of the trigger guard is digging into my middle finger on my right hand. It was considerable less noticeable this time, b/c it was cold enough outside to wear some thin leather shooting gloves. They were unpadded, but it gave me a better grip. So, maybe it was at least partly due to me feeling like I needed to squeeze it hard to get a better grip, but I'm not sure yet. I'm gonna drift the sights and apply some grip tape before my next trip out with it to see just how many issues those 2 changes correct.

    Dog Food

My 75# Olde English Bulldogge and my 85# American Bulldog are leaner and healthier since we switched to feed store dog food too. I get them a brand called Exclusive for the same reasons you said: less poop, less allergies, & high protein. Exclusive also contains omega vitamins for their skin and glucosamine & chondroitin with msm for their joints. My 2 favorite things are the every 6th bag is free and that it's completely corn-free. The first ingrediet on the bag is chicken, not chicken meal or bone meal (which appear farther down the list), but chicken! My AB had some gnarly stomach issues for what seemed like forever. We switched to this food and poof! gone in a matter of days. We carried an empty bag to the vet b/c she asked what food we switched to. It seems she had other clients with dogs who had similar digestive issues and didn't carry that brand in her little store. Anyway, she was impressed for the price it's darn good food.
  11. The TWRA range you mentioned on Hobson Pike is my favorite. It's close to La Vergne, inexpensive, I like most of the RSO's, and they take safety even more serious than I do. I've been wanting to go to G&L in Grenbrier too. I hear they have "movers" you can shoot at. Any idea how much?
  12. One table had XD 40's for $425 each + tax & TICS on Saturday. I was kind of tempted
  13. About the sights... I took it out to the range Sunday and put 4 mags (72 rounds) through it. The target below is from 15 yards with the first 3 mags. For the first 2 mags I set my sight picture like I do every handgun I own. For the 3rd mag (the hits inside the red rectangle and the flyer below it) I aimed a bit lower than what I'm used to aiming and got better results. I think the rear sight needs to be drifted a little to the right, though. What do you thinK? 45' with Glock 34 by BigK To be sure it's not me, I set up a new target and moved the stand back 5 more feet to the 50' mark and fired the same number of rounds using my CZ P-01 and the same ammo. Aside from the effects of shivering (about 26 degrees out), I got fairly typical results for me: 50' with CZ P-01 by BigK So, do you agree, I need to at least drift the sights over a bit? I had read that this model comes with adjustable sights, but mine didn't. It just had the plastic sights, so a sight pusher is in my near future, huh?
  14. I figured this would be one of the 1st questions I was asked, so no offense taken. This is a VERY reasonable question and trust me, I asked myself this several times. Afterall, I wouldn't buy shoes that aren't comfortable or the wrong size pants. So many people have Glocks that parts/accessories are easier to come by and more available than anything else in my price range. Beside, I just wanted to give them a fair shake to see if I'd like them as much as everyone else does given a little more time to get the feel. If I still don't like it after a few months, no problem. I got a pretty good deal on it, so I'm pretty sure I can sell it for more than I paid or trade it for something I like better. Does that sound reasonable or crazy?
  15. I have tried half a dozen times or more to like Glocks. I've rented them at the shooting range and borrowed them from buddies. Each time I come home very frustrated and with a sore strong hand middle finger to boot (from the too wide trigger guard). I can shoot 'em just fine, despite they don't fit my natural point of aim. They just don't feel comfortable in my hand and constantly feel like they'll fly right out of my grip (too slippery). Still, I WANT to like them, b/c it's so easy to find parts, accessories, holsters, etc. I finally decided to just get used to them, since I need a "spare" gun for my 17 yr old. We are planning to take a defensive pistol class during spring break. This will be my last chance for anything fun like this together, since he's shipping out to Paris Island this summer. So, I bought one at the gun show this weekend. Since I have no plans to carry this one (just for the range), I picked a Glock 34. I'd also like to try my hand at some kind of shooting competition when it warms up and I hear good things about the 34. Here's some Tupperware Porn for ya (:rolleyes:like you've never seen a Glock, right?) BTW, that's cigarette ashes on the slide next to the milling, not scratches: Glock 34 left profile by Big K Glock 34 nameplate by Big K Glock 34 controls by Big K Glock 34 top by Big K One thing bugging me...I thought this model came with adjustable target sights. This has the plain crappy polymer sights. First item of business is to get some real sights and get them adjusted. I'll show the range results later.
  16. Oh, that's cold...FUNNY... but cold. Great fun, I particularly liked this part:
  17. They need to get somebody, b/c Kerry Collins is done too. They have too many good receivers that will rot on the vine, if the Titans pick another run-first QB.

    Idiots!!!

I'm sure all (most?) of us know better than to try anything remotely close to this level of stupidity. I'm also sure we all know a few of the "hey! y'all check this out" types that wouldn't hesitate to give it a try. The shallow end of the gene pool never seems to run out of idiots, though.
  19. At $10/24 issues I'm paying 42 cents per month to look at the pictures and have something to carry around in my backpack, so I don't feel like I'm toting a purse to work, LOL.
  20. Wow, they DO both look really nice! I can't believe you haven't got to shoot them yet. I'd be going crazy if it were me.
  21. My dad fed us all kinds of game growing up. One of my favorites was par-boiled and baked ground hog with BBQ sauce. Other than that weird one, we've had racoon, possum, rattlesnake, and of course the normal stuff like squirrel, rabbit, deer, game birds, etc. I'd have to be way hungrier than I can imagine to eat buzzards, coyotes, or other folks, though.
  22. I enjoy the ads more than most articles, but the pictures and write-ups of guns I've been hearing about is why I get them.
  23. I wasn't up for renewal, but I ran across a good deal. I just renewed over the phone for 2 more years (24 issues) for only $10. The same promo code will get you 1 year (12 issues) for only $6, if you have problems with commitment, LOL. Here's the promo code: 4P0B254 (that 3rd character is a zero, in case you aren't using copy/paste). Hope this helps somebody save a few bucks.
  24. That or one with a thumb lock would be nice too, but they aren't available for my CZ. Besides, the High Noon I'm getting is free. I won it in a Christmas drawing on another forum.
