  1. Very fun! I got 40 out of 48. There was an old Studebaker restoration shop off the square in Shelbyville where I grew up, so they're distinctive. I also had uncles that restored old chevys and dodges, so I felt like I was cheating. The Mercs and Fords are tough, though. They all look alike.
  2. I've actually seen something similar, but it was round on Stones River just above Walter Hill Dam. Admittedly, the one I saw wasn't made of duct tape and it did have a trolling motor with a foot pedal attached. He could get in/out of places other boats couldn't get to and had a several big catfish on his stringer. It looked a lot like this (LILIPAD BOATS). Still funny!
  3. I recently bought a gun from someone in GA. To make matters worse, his FFL was a seedy looking pawn shop. All the way to the post office to send my payment via registered mail with delivery confirmations, etc., I was telling myself what an idiot I am for even thinking of doing business like this. It all worked out, but I still feel dumb for taking the risk.
  4. You gave me the same advice, but I had already bought both. I only started using the hand primer this weekend. Not only is it portable, like you mentioned, but it also seats the primers more consistently.
  5. With some help, I just got started reloading myself. I don't have everything I want, but I have everything I need. I saved brass for a long time, so I wouldn't have to buy any then I got: $125 - Lee Deluxe Reloading Kit (Turret Press with Auto Index, Auto Disk Powder Measure, Safety Scale, shell holder, primer pocket cleaner & other case tools) $ 35 - Lee 3-Die set for 9mm $ 17 - Lee factory crimp die (optional) $ 23 - Lee Saftety Prime System (press mounter primer feeer) $ 63 - Frankford Arsenal Master Kit (tumber, media, media seperatory, and brash polish) $ 7 - Powder measure riser (keeps powder measure from bumping primer system) $270 Total for equipment I wish I had looked around for used equipment, but I got too impatient. I could have gotten used progressive outfit cheaper.
  6. Finally got to hold one myself yesterday at Outpost Armory. Their price was considerably higher than the ones mentioned above. I want one too, now, but will have to buy elsewhere.
  7. +1 on this! My hand takes a beating with 20 or so standard .357 loads from my SP101 even with the Hogue grip. I can't imagine shooting more than a dozen rounds from one of those LCRs in .357.
  8. Try Pack 'n Heat. It's run by Officer Jeff Eady. He's a good guy, it's real close to you and the price is $65. Course Registration
  9. This is sooooo going to be my desktop background now!!
  10. I'm sure nobody wishes they were driving this particular bus either.
  11. I REALLY wish I had bought the mag pouch at the same time. Now I'm too cheap to pay for shipping on a single item. There's more than enough room for one, maybe even a double (like this one). In fact, I can put my Glock 34 in there and still have room for 3 mags beside it, but they are loose, not in pouches. It's a little tighter fit top to bottom with that big ol long G34, but it still zips. Hope that helps.
  12. I usually carry mine in a DeSantis pocket holster, but my favorite is this rig below: The holster is an Alaskan by Hunter. It was made for the strap to go behind the hammer, but I shortened it and rotated it behind the grip to use the trigger guard for retention. The speed strip holder I copied from a pic I saw on SimplyRugged.com and the speedloader holder is something I came up with. The holster needs to be refinished, so it ain't pretty, but it's REAL comfy and I can work it pretty quick. A baggy tshirt comes down low enough to hide the bottom of the holster.
  13. I think I heard one of them say during the "after show" that the Sharps they shot felt like it had a half pound trigger. Allowing for exaggeration, are they all like that?
  14. Too bad you're so far away, Outpost Armory near Murfreesboro has a surprisingly large number of Maxped items in stock. Before I bought the el cheapo UTG bag, I looked at the EDC and KISS and compared them to the others...HUGE difference in quality and extras. The fabric is thin and plastic-like. I couldn't find the Maxped holster in stock at the time, so I got this instead. I think the 5.11 is better made and it was less than $8. Here's a couple of pics:
  15. I liked Chris and the cop (Daryll?) and hated George and "golf boy" from the start. Hated the way they treated Jamie. I'm still on the fence about George giving up. Part of me wonders if he was protecting his ego, expecting to lose to Gunny or maybe I just dislike him so much I can't give him credit for doing something selfless.
  16. I got the UTG bag and LOVE it. I carry it to work daily and it's handy. I was torn b/w the 5.11, Maxpedition, and UTG regular size bags despite the big price differences. It came down to the first 2 being too small to haul reading material like magazines and the small catalogs we all get in the mail. The UTG is big enough. It's as tall as the Jumbo, but not quite as wide.
  17. Well, if it ain't my 2 favorite reloaders! Hey Dolomite, what are you shooting the 9mm's out of? If I understand correctly, some guns are more prone to leading than others, right? I shoot a Glock and a bunch of CZ's. I've never heard of an issue with the CZ's, but I have heard that Glocks are a problem. I'm quickly using up the first 500 bullets (Ranier 124 gr fmj) I got and wanting to try some HBWC or LRN bullets next. With shipping these come up to exactly half the price each as what I'm using!
  18. Yep, too late now, sorry.
  19. Thanks for the kind words. I had fun making it except when my airbrush broke right before I finished the darker dye around the edges. No excuses, I dropped the ball on that one. I know the drill...no pics, it didn't happen. It wasn't until I was almost done when I realized this would have made for good before/after pics. It was too late by then. You would have been surprised...not by the after pics, but by how someone could let a tool they rely on get in such bad shape, LOL.
  20. My father-in-law brought me his raggedy old hatchet with gouges all up the sides and knicks in the blade. He asked me to make him a leather cover for it, so it wouldn't get banged up in the tool box of his truck. Needless to say, I bit my tongue and said sure. I cleaned it up with a brass brush and some WD-40, smoothed out the gouges, and polished it with my Dremel until it shined like new. Then I reprofiled the edge to get the knicks out of the blade and sharpened it real good for him. I mean why bother putting lipstick on a pig, right? Here's the cover I made him for it... He liked it and practically accused me of buying him a new hatchet, since he couldn't believe it was the same one he dropped off. It's always good to keep the in-laws happy.
  21. I talked 2 guns shops about Rugers recently. Neither had any idea when they'd get their hands on an SR1911 or an LC9. Both said they are having major issues restocking new hanguns, especially Rugers. Do you mind if I ask where you got yours?
  22. Thank you again for all the priceless advice and recommendations about reloading. That is not where I expected this thread to go, but I am SO glad it did. My last 100 rounds all cycled perfectly. I had zero failures and all rounds were every bit as accurate as any factory load I've shot. I now feel confident enought to make a lot at a time and even plan to use them at my next IDPA match. I'm going to post another thread soon about choosing and matching components for target/IDPA. I hope I haven't worn out my welcome, b/c I look forward to your input when I get my thoughts/questions together. FWIW...I'm already expanding my operation next payday. I'm getting a set of .38/.357 dies and an extra turret, so I don't have to change/reset dies. I have over 600 pcs of brass polished, deprimed, and waiting to be reloaded!
  23. Big Rob, I'd like to commend you for doing this. I've only been pulled over once in the past 15 years and it was before I got my HCP. However, I can honestly say that I've sought advice/instruction and mentally gone over how the incident should go dozens of times. Each time I consider whether there is anything else I could do to put the officer at ease and make sure he/she knows I'm not a BG. While driving I keep mine off-body, so I don't have to fumble under my seat belt if I need it. This means it is likely visible from outside the car. I worry most about the 2nd officer coming up on the right seeing it and over-reacting. I'd never touch it, make a motion toward it, or let my hands get out of the LEO's sight, but I can only control my actions. I expect that 2nd officer to react appropriately too, but not to shoot me, LOL. You guys put your life on the line every time you stop a car. So, I can easily see how any time you see a gun during a stop there's justification for reacting. Regardless of what you learn through this exercise, I hope none of you guys let their guard down for a second or get complacent in the face of the growing number of good guys with an HCP. A single under-estimated situation could be your last, so I hope all HCP holders realize this too when responding.
  24. I agree with hornett22...I have an alarm system and 3 dogs. I trust the dogs WAY more than the electronics. No alarm that I know of has ever bitten an intruder .
  25. So, if an 18 yr old can go into a bar and buy a handgun from as long as it's not from an FFL, I guess I was only one-third correct, huh? I suspect the anti-gunnners will say that makes them less guilty then, since the law allowed 2 out of 3 things to happen.
