If someone pinned me to the ground, wrenched me arms behind me, threw my down a flight of stairs, and I wasn't any smarter than a dog, I'd have probably charged him and gotten shot too. Of course, that's just one side of the story too. The officer had to have sensed some kind of threat by the dog, otherwise his actions sound like something a crazy person would do. Most cops many have pets of their own and they don't just go around executing peoples' pets for "no good reason".

I could've gotten plain black painted phillips head screws from the mfg or tried getting several close enough from a hardware store til I found ones that fit. Since I don't know the thread form, thread pitch, major diameter, minor diameter, etc. of the originals, I didn't mind paying a little extra for dressy looking screws that I'm positive will fit. ...maybe I'll change my own oil or mow my own yard this time to recoup the loss.

first Japanese-style I've seen in black & grey...nice!

My favorite tat (upper right arm), Molon Labe My 8+ yr old baby girl (right chest when it was fresh and sore) A lil heritage (upper left arm) I like CZs a little bit (right bicep) My other puppy (wife's right rear shoulder). Yeah, yeah, hers is better.

The original grip screw on my 82 are slotted, not phillips. You have to be real careful not to scratch up your expensive wood grips when you take them off. No excuse, but vanity for changing them out on the P-01. Still, I do like hex head screws better.

I got 2 sets of stainless button hex head grip screws on eBay for $15 plus $2.49 shipping. The seller is grampjhack and he was awesome to do business with. He even sent me an 'apology' message for not being able to ship them out Saturday, even though I bought them very late in the evening. They shipped on Monday and arrived on Wednesday. Not bad, huh? Best of all...they fit perfectly! I don't mean they were close enough to work...they were spot on! He even sent me 2 extra sets of the black ones, presumably because he's an awesome guy. Plus, the button head doesn't stick out as far as the originals, so they sit deeper in the grip screw holes. They don't even stick out inside the grip to interfere with the mags dropping when you snug them down well. The black ones look better on my P-01 with the black rubber grips, but the stainless look better on my CZ 82 with the red wattle grips from Marschals. What do you think?

I was thinking the same, especially about the revolver.

I enjoy watching the Olympics, but it gets old after a few days. My wife is completely obsessed, though. Every 2 years (winter and summer games) her eyes are glued to the TV nonstop and my DVR is full. Mens and womens indoor and beach volleyball are my favorites. GO MISTY AND KERRI! I like the swimming too, but I'm sick of the Michael Phelps show too. It's not supposed to be about one person. I watched a little bit of the shooting. Its on On Demand and boring as hell.

Damn my stupid little girly hands! I want a G36 so bad, but it still has too big of a grip from front to back.

The citizen-hero put a total of 4 shots in the bad guy, 3 of which were under return fire. I think it'd be hard enough under stress to get 4 hits on an assailant while being shot at...let alone with a pistol from 165 yards. I'm wondering if that "165" was a typo.

New shooter and I'm horrible at it. Looking for training.

You're already thinking in the right direction! Learning the basics on a .22 pistol is the ideal way to go. -

Best book I ever read on the subject was Surgical Speed Shooting by Andy Stanford. It should be required reading for IDPA and anyone interested in self-defense. Don't let the title fool you, it covers the basics brilliantly, IMO. The National Shooting Sports Foundation has a decent collection of free videos (nssf.org). I'd recommend checking out their YouTube channel. Look for Handgun Shooting Tips. Really, any of the videos on YouTube by professional shooters would be worth watching. The NRA has a DVD program, but it's $80. I'd spend that money on a class instead. -

Sorry, one more thing... These guys are right, NOW is the time to get instruction. Until you learn the "right way", every trip to the range enforces BAD habits. I spent more time overcoming hundreds of hours of bad practice than I did learning the proper technique. -

I'd look for an NRA marksmanship class, if you have your heart set on formal instruction. A good bullseye class will get your fundamentals tuned quicker than a self-defense class. I feel I improved a lot by just reading books and watching videos from acclaimed shooters. Proper grip, sight alignment, and trigger control are pretty cut and dry. You're either doing it right or you're doing it wrong. Almost all of the books tell you the exact same thing about these points. Which stance is best seems to more debatable and at least a dozen books have been written than focus mostly on these stances as the basis for their shooting "system". Deciding which stance worked best for me early on did me the most good. From there I read up on the shooting systems that used that stance. -
Whether you call it unwed mothers, broken families, or dead beat dads, it's a symptom of societal breakdown...not the cause. We can't keep telling welfare recipients they lose benefits if they work a little or stay married or have fewer kids without them gaming the system. ...AND... We can't keep downplaying the role of responsible parenthood without seeing a nanny-state step in to raise our kids for us. BUT most of all... We can't judge everyone else with one set of moral values through legislation and NOT expect a backlash. I firmly believe that some moral values are inherent and come from out instincts, but most come from centuries and centuries of religious influence. Atheists, Christians, Muslims, and others seem to all agree on a core set of moral values (like killing is evil and not being productive is bad for society and mistreating people we don't agree with is wrong) as belonging to humanity, regardless of where the ideals come from. Likewise, the general belief that a strong family unit is a good thing is true. Sure there are strong parents that can do a good job alone, but 2 strong parents are always better than one. In all fairness, one good strong parent and one piece of crap parent may be worse. Still, that comes from us downplaying the importance of morals. If either/both parent(s) is a drunk, abusive, absent, neglectful, and/or weak minded, the kids don't stand much of a chance turning out well. ..BUT, how do you legislate that?

I question how much of this loss can be attributed to the teachers' union types being miffed. They're usually registered Dumbascraps, so few would be voting in a GOP primary. On the same note, us pro-carry folks aren't in the majority either, not even here in the South. However, the NRA adds were very well done and they exposed how she kept legislation from getting an up or down vote on the floor. That stinks of dirty politics and being in the pocket of fat cats like FedEx. So, I hope it's her dirty politics that earned her loss as much as anything else. Last thing I want is another bullseye painted on the backs of gun owners and the NRA.

Tucson executive loses job after confronting Chick-fil-A worker
BigK replied to a topic in General Chat
So let me get this straight...this presumably busy executive waited in line all that time behind paying customers with more undoubtedly behind him and he actually thinks his free water is going to harm CFA? They lost more money in wasted napkins and ketchup in the past 10 minutes than his silly cup of water costs. I can't believe this guy earned a business degree from somewhere. -
I bought one of those Guard Dog lights too. Not sure of the output, but it was $15. It has a charger for the battery and has a plug to accept a remote switch. I've had it almost a year now and it's been pretty good so far. Holds a charge okay and is bright enough to be worth what I paid. I'm too cheap to spring for a big name light, so I decided to compensate thru redundancy. I keep 2 in the car, half a dozen or more around the house, and a couple in my work bag. I'll have to check out this Eagle Tac, sounds like it's right up my alley.

Hey! I like Starbucks too and I'm not a lib, LOL. Plus, they made an unpopular decision with some of their customers not to adopt a corporate "no gun" policy not long ago. So, despite all the smelly hippies in Birkenstocks and cut-off shorts, I appreciate Starbucks and will support them as well. Kudos, to him for it too! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. A few years back, Whoopi Goldberg publicly made some leftist comments (forget what they were about). As a consequence, one of the companies she did commercials for dropped her, citing that she was too controversial to represent them. She made a huge deal out of it, saying they were violating her 1st amendment rights. Fact is, you can say what you want and if enough people agree (Dan Cathy) you are a hero. If too few agree (Dixie Chicks), you become a trivia question answer and disappear. This is NOT the same as discrimination, because we get to choose whether to punish or reward the speaker with our wallets....THAT'S THE WAY CAPITALISM IS SUPPOSED TO WORK!

Friday the other side is supposed to be staging what they've decided to call a "Kiss In". They want homosexuals to go to Chick-fil-A and sit around kissing in an attempt to disgust the other patrons and show how strong their cause is. That event has some pretty big shoes to fill. When all is said and done, we'll see which side it makes more economic sense to pander to. I'm sure a lot of people who showed to support Dan Cathy's 1st Ammendment rights. Others likely showed up to support his religious beliefs. Unfortunately, I predict that if the media gives this the coverage it deserves (it's a pretty freaking big deal) they'll label them all gay-bashing, narrow-minded, zealots, who have no right judging the lifestyles of others...just saying.

I had an iPhone 3GS for sale on CL. After 5 or 6 ridiculous lowball offers I told a particularly annoying guy I'd think about his $75 offer. Next time he pestered me I told him I just sold it for $80 a few minutes ago. He was mad as hell, 'I'd have given you $80 for it, jeez'. So, I said, 'I wish you would've offered me that, the other guy was a real jerk'.

+1 on the canine early warning system...seems to work. Last time I ordered pizza, I saw the pizza guy get completely off the porch and go all the way back down 3 steps when he heard how deep my American Bulldog's bark was. I like to make a show of holding her back like she's a stone-cold killer when I come out to pay. Hope the neighbors see too.

Petition to stop magazine ban: SIGN IT ASAP!
BigK replied to JohnC's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'd like to agree that it has little to no chance of passing. However, politicians have been known to wilt in the face of pressure before. All it would take is complacency on our part. If they don't hear from us in as many numbers as they are hearing from the other side, who knows what they'll do? -
Got room up there for one more?
