1. I used to use the Smith system, which is a cheap Lansky knock-off, IMO. I quit, because they tend to scratch up the spine of my knives if I'm not very careful. I'm glad I read about the Spyderco Sharpmaker on another thread here. From the first time I used it, I loved it. I think it's the easiest and fastest thing I've tried. I don't know about reprofiling an edge with it, but I've sharpened dull knives with it and touched up already sharp blades. I think it does a great job and it's nearly fool-proof.
2. Wow, the place was packed today. It was to the point where it was actually hard to get around. I almost bought a new handgun (Sig 2022 w/ laser, $399), but chickened out b/c of Christmas and all. There were a lot of good prices, though and only one table was empty (including the outside perimeter). I did score 2 bottles of powder, a whole case of SPP, and a box of LPP from David, though. So, it was a good day for me.
3. I couldn't see the guys hands in the video, so I don't know what the officer saw. But, I've seen enough movies to know you can roll over snd get off a shot from the ground before you die. The way he clutched his stomach, I was afraid he was going for a gun in his waistband or something.
4. Yeah, no offense, but I can't read that font.
5. I really like the M'boro shows...haven't missed one in years. Can't wait to find out what else I can't live without.
6. I'm glad so many of his feats have been immortalized on film. Some of the shots he's pulled off would require proof that it happened. When I tell some people about some of the amazing things he's done, they call BS and I have videos to prove it.   He was amazing.   R.I.P. Mr. Munden.
7. If you were starting out with with pistol ammo, I'd be glad to help you out.    Unfortunately, I don't shoot rifles much, so I'm not sure what extra steps a crash course for pistols would leave out.
8. Congrats, best set of sights I've ever owned. Got a set of them on my G17 (nightstand gun). I love them! They are awesome day or night. I wish they made them form CZs too. For the record, my nightstand pistol also has a light on it too.
9.
I'm a big fan of Bullseye powder for target handgun loads. I loaded 20 rounds of 7x57, 20 rounds of 223, 400 rounds of 45 ACP, and 150 rounds of 38 Special last night and this morning on a single stage press. It didn't take very long at all.
I mostly use Bullseye too. I like economy of it, plus it meters very well.
10. If I go out tomorrow, it'll be somewhere safe...like a gun store.
11. I'll never, ever underestimate bubba's ingenuity again. Beats Mexican carry!
12. The author's notes about how the results for 9mm were skewed was interesting. The fact that around half were from ball ammo should tell you all you need to know about the reliability of the data. I'm guessing that the kind of people who carry ball ammo in their 9mm are more likely to hold their guns sideways too.
13.
9MM to start. I'll give Dave a call later on after the Turkey digest. LOL Flyboy
I have a Lee turret press set up for 9mm Makarov and .45 ACP and a Dillon press set up for 9mm. If you're near Reloaders Bench in Mt. Juliet, I'm reasonably close (La Vergne) to you. If you want to take the dime tour of both presses, I'd be happy to have you over. I don't mind helping, since so many people helped me out when I got started. Just shoot me a PM, if you're interested.
14. I'd jump on Billco's offer if I were you... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/54067-lyman-reloading-press-and-other-stuff/ that's an excellent price in fact, I could use a 3rd reloading setup...so just nevermind, LOL
15. By the time I got a Dillon press, I had a couple thousand rounds of reloads under my belt and STILL found it to be quite a challenge. I'd bet that if you started out on a simpler press, you'd get a better understanding of the process. Plus, you could sell it for nearly what you have in it when you're ready to move up to a progressive press. Don't rely on a reloading manual/book to learn the basics...rely on at least 2 or 3 reloading books/manuals to learn the basics. You'll need multiple perspectives and no single book could answer all my questions or explain every aspect of reloading. If you get a progressive press to start out with, PLEASE find an experienced reloader willing to help you get it set up.
16. Congrats on the new 1911. I was in the same boat this spring. I had wanted one for a long time, but always seemed to come home with something else instead. I hope you're as happy with your new .45 as I am with mine. They are LOTS of fun to shoot.
17. Leaving the population centers is top of my list of priorities. Otherwise, I'm hoping to comandier a houseboat. Zombies can't swim can they?
18. I was pondering the same recently and was mainly looking at a take-down recurve bow, myself. I want something stowable and quiet too.
19. The Governor is one creepy dude....heads in aquariums, brushing zombie kid's hair, experimenting on walkers, and gladiators fighting among walkers instead of lions. But, I don't think that's all the "crazy" he is up to. If it was, why did he kill the soldiers instead of offering them sanctuary. I'm thinking he didn't want them competing with him for whatever. He's giving me a cult leader vibe and I think he wants blondie to be his new zombie-baby momma.
20. That makes sense, Jonnin.
21. I was leaning toward the cheaper of the 2, but can't help but wonder of the aluminum riser on the Martin will be something I'll appreciate later.
22. I'd like to pick up a relatively inexpensive bow to practice with. I haven't shot a bow in over 20+ years, but used to be pretty decent at it. This will not be used for hunting (unless the zombie apocalypse breaks out, LOL). I have absolutely ZERO interest in a compound bow. I am DEAD SET on a takedown recurve bow. So, please try and keep those 2 points in mind. A buddy at work is real into archery and uses a Martin 50#. I'm leaning toward the 45-55# draw weight range...any suggestions? Too much? Too little? Am I going to be disappointed in something like this http://www.ebay.com/...6891a15 or this http://www.amazon.co...T8HXKK4 ? Any other advice would be awesome.
23. Glad to see some votes for CZ thrown in there. I can't say enough about how perfectly the CZ 75 series (including the compacts and even the subcompact) fit me. I absolutely love the way they feel.
24. My carry preferences are SA/DA w/ decocker, striker fired, and DAO in that order. None would have an external manual safety. That being said, I have a couple of guns with external manual safeties, I just don't use the safety when I carry them. I'm with those who say that operator is responsible for that safety of the weapon, not a device.
25. I took it as a clever way to get people to watch his video and therefore receive a valuable message. I think he tries to be abrasive and edgy, it's like his sales pitch.
