17year old with record killed in botched robbery
BigK replied to Patton's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm very glad the victim came out of this alive and unapologetically disappointed that one of these scumbags did too. -
It's disgusting of these administrators to label kissing someone on the hand as "sexual" harassment. He's got no clue what that is. However, he has kissed this same little girl on the cheek before (still not sexual harassment without sexual intent at his age). So, maybe mom should have had a stern conversation about what's okay and what's not okay after the first incident.

The idea of refusing to serve someone because of religious beliefs can lead to messy assumptions. In this case there was no hiding the fact that the cake purchasers were gay and the baker has religious objections to gay marriage. In most cases it's hard to know if someone is an adulterer, fornicator, child molester, thief, murderer, etc. His other potential customers don't walk in his door celebrating sins to which he has religious beliefs against and the occasion for his services isn't centered around a ceremony that he feels makes a mockery of what he likely views as a religious bond. That's the problem I see with people claiming Christians pick and choose which sins they take a stance against. Most people don't advertise and/or celebrate their sins. I'm sure there are some here that would deny that he would refuse to make a "There is no God" cake for an atheist party or even a "God Hates Fags" cake for the Westboro Baptist Church idiots. I, for one, suspect he would. The reason this comes to light with the gay community so often is because they don't recognize homosexuality as a sin and are so "in your face" about their lifestyle that it's impossible not to see.

I highly recommend this method too. They aren't all winners, but I must have watched 10 different guys on YouTube explain the process. Between them all and the 2 reloading manuals I read, I learned how to do it well enough to explain it before I ever even set up my first press.

That's awesome news, thanks. I found one a few months back, but I know someone else, besides the OP, that is also looking for one. I'll pass this along.

Christmas came early! Santa made a stop at Dillon on the way.

Congrats on the new press, man. Sorry to hear you can't play with it yet. That would drive me crazy. I have a 650 set up for 9mm and a 550 set up for .45 acp. If you like the 550, I think you'll love the 650, especially after you add the case feeder. There's no words for how awesome it is to knock out 300 rounds in about 15 minutes on your way out the door for the shooting range. -
This guy has been championing a losing cause longer than some of us have been breathing. Before obesity got to the level it is today, he was out there trying to do something to change our eating culture. Sure, he's made a buck here and there, but we'd be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated person to his/her passion. Like, McGarrett said, he seems like a perfect fit for Michelle Obama's health program. Much better, in fact, than the Schwarzenegger was for George H.W. Bush's fitness program in the early 90's. Maybe they were afraid of being associated with this kind of image:

Nashville Armory IDPA November 26th - 6:45 PM
BigK replied to JimHouchin's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Does that mean you can't use a dropped and offset holster? Will everyone have to wait in line to get their guns inspected for upgrades and to be sure they fit the box? Will all ammo be chrono'd to be sure it meets MPF? -
Looking forward to hearing how you like it. Is it safe to assume from your avatar that you are a 1911 fan? If so, I'm extra curious to hear how the recoil and handling compares. I have 2 full size 45s and a subcompact and love all 3.

Hydro-shocks have had a pretty good reputation for a long time in major calibers. IF I carried a .380, I would consider them for summer time, but not for coat wearing weather.

TN family and one hell of an escalation of a traffic stop
BigK replied to Sam1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What on Earth makes an idiot think they can just drive away at a traffic stop, refuse to be arrested when pulled over a 2nd time, jump out and attack a police officer, or attempt to flee a 2nd time without bad things happening. Most of all, what on Earth makes a trained LEO think it's okay to fire shots at a van full of people like that? -
If ammo weren't so hard to come by for it, I'd be happy with my S&W M&P 15-22 for the ZA.

I picked up a cheap 34" Chinese tv a year and a half ago for the bedroom. I got it from HH Gregg for $199 on sale. It's a Hisense or something like that. So far it's been awesome. It's not just an LCD, not an LED, though. I don't like the LED's. The color looks washed out to me.

Not sure if you're familiar with Massad Ayoob, but he's pretty well respected in the gun community as one of the leading experts on self-defense law. One of the more interesting things he suggests is to find out what your local LEO's carry and just go with that for the same reason you stated.

Good point and the very reason I am reluctant to reload my own SD ammo, despite having a full box of Hornady XTPs in 9mm and 45 acp.

I just got my XD-S back from the recall this week and took it out to the range today to make sure nothing they did harmed its reliability. It ate up over 200 rounds including all but 2 mags of my SD ammo like a champ. So, it's time to get more. Here are my 3 finalists: Hornady® Pistol * .45ACP+P * 230 Grain JHP / XTP * 20 rounds * $16.79 Federal® Premium® Hydra - Shok® * .45 Auto * 230 Grain HSJHP * 20 rounds * $22.79 COR - BON® Pistol Self - Defense * .45 ACP +P * 230 Grain JHP * 20 rounds * $22.89 While I'm sure there are plenty of other good choices, these are the 3 brands I prefer to use in my semi autos and I'd rather stick with what I know. Plus, they're all in stock at SportsmansGuide.com and they they have free shipping this weekend. I also know that there are some experts out there that suggest lighter bullets in short barrels, but lucky for me this is my gun, not theirs. I'm sticking with the tried and true 230 grain behemoths. Which would you choose? Why?

That's fair, I guess. I can see the Croatians on the XD-S line sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for the "fix" with 95% complete guns. Since they make the parts, I can see how they can get the finally assembly done quick enough to get guns back on the market faster than the U.S. plant can crank out upgrades. I wouldn't expect SA to ship our guns their, so they could help with the upgrades. Good point, OS

I'm 83 entries into AUD. This story does a good job of covering how I like to think of the zombie apocalypse...25% fighting off zombies, 50% simply trying to survive (food, water, shelter, etc), and 25% other (humans, animals, etc.). I dread when this ends, that's gonna be a real toe pusher :D

Back to Cuba is the only one around here that I've gotten a chance to try. I was real upset one Monday a few months ago when I took my daughter and they were closed. How's their mofongo? I could live off that stuff if done well.

Clearly, this is a known phenomenon, since there are so many videos and accounts out there. However, prior to hearing about this sad and unfortunate event, I wouldn't have ever guessed it could happen. The worst-case-scenario I could envision prior to hearing about this would be that the chick might drop the gun and scratch it all up or maybe sprain her wrist. I actually feel sorry for the people around when this happened. I don't have a problem with anyone calling it negligence, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's ignorance instead.
-
I've never seen a recall handled like this before. I understand issuing a recall as soon as possible to mitigate liability...err, I mean keep us safe, but I've never heard of a product being recalled for "upgrades" before a fix was discovered. I guess I should be glad they took the complaints about not communicating with us serious. I noticed for the last few weeks they really have let loose with the update emails and texts. I suppose that means they are trying, at least. If I found out these gun shops with XD-S for sale have newly mfg guns instead of recall upgrades, I'd make it my personal mission to bad-mouth SA every chance I got! That would be adding insult to injury, for sure. I hope that's not the case, though, because I'd feel like a total hypocrite since I LOVE the heck out of my lil XD-S and hope to switch back to it as my edc soon.
-
I was never much of a 45 acp fan either. Even after getting my first 1911, it was only a range toy. The turning point for me was the XD-S. I think it's easier to shoot than my full size 1911. I know it's only 5+1 rounds, but the mags are tiny. I can fit 3 spares filled with 45 acp awesomeness in a single back pocket.

I got my XD-S back from Springfield yesterday. I had tagged it, packed it in some leftover carpet padding, and put it in a nondescript cardboard box for shipping instead of the original case. When I opened the box they had put my gun in a plastic handgun case for the return trip. So, I got the free magazine AND a free handgun case. Otherwise, gun feels and operates exactly like it did before. The trigger feels the same as before, which is awesome news to me. Now I just gotta hold out for Saturday to go put a few hundred rounds through it to ensure reliability. Hopefully that goes well, so I can start using it as my EDC again.

Do you reckon this shop sent their XD-S inventory in for the recall, like we did and these are their returned guns for sale?
