    Ruger SR 45

Looking forward to hearing how you like it. Is it safe to assume from your avatar that you are a 1911 fan? If so, I'm extra curious to hear how the recoil and handling compares. I have 2 full size 45s and a subcompact and love all 3.
  2. Hydro-shocks have had a pretty good reputation for a long time in major calibers. IF I carried a .380, I would consider them for summer time, but not for coat wearing weather.
  3. What on Earth makes an idiot think they can just drive away at a traffic stop, refuse to be arrested when pulled over a 2nd time, jump out and attack a police officer, or attempt to flee a 2nd time without bad things happening. Most of all, what on Earth makes a trained LEO think it's okay to fire shots at a van full of people like that?
  4. If ammo weren't so hard to come by for it, I'd be happy with my S&W M&P 15-22 for the ZA.
  5. I picked up a cheap 34" Chinese tv a year and a half ago for the bedroom. I got it from HH Gregg for $199 on sale. It's a Hisense or something like that. So far it's been awesome. It's not just an LCD, not an LED, though. I don't like the LED's. The color looks washed out to me.
  6. Not sure if you're familiar with Massad Ayoob, but he's pretty well respected in the gun community as one of the leading experts on self-defense law. One of the more interesting things he suggests is to find out what your local LEO's carry and just go with that for the same reason you stated.
  7.   Good point and the very reason I am reluctant to reload my own SD ammo, despite having a full box of Hornady XTPs in 9mm and 45 acp.
  8. I just got my XD-S back from the recall this week and took it out to the range today to make sure nothing they did harmed its reliability. It ate up over 200 rounds including all but 2 mags of my SD ammo like a champ. So, it's time to get more. Here are my 3 finalists: Hornady® Pistol * .45ACP+P * 230 Grain JHP / XTP * 20 rounds * $16.79 Federal® Premium® Hydra - Shok® * .45 Auto * 230 Grain HSJHP * 20 rounds * $22.79 COR - BON® Pistol Self - Defense * .45 ACP +P * 230 Grain JHP * 20 rounds * $22.89 While I'm sure there are plenty of other good choices, these are the 3 brands I prefer to use in my semi autos and I'd rather stick with what I know. Plus, they're all in stock at SportsmansGuide.com and they they have free shipping this weekend. I also know that there are some experts out there that suggest lighter bullets in short barrels, but lucky for me this is my gun, not theirs. I'm sticking with the tried and true 230 grain behemoths. Which would you choose? Why?
  9. That's fair, I guess. I can see the Croatians on the XD-S line sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for the "fix" with 95% complete guns. Since they make the parts, I can see how they can get the finally assembly done quick enough to get guns back on the market faster than the U.S. plant can crank out upgrades. I wouldn't expect SA to ship our guns their, so they could help with the upgrades. Good point, OS
  10. I'm 83 entries into AUD. This story does a good job of covering how I like to think of the zombie apocalypse...25% fighting off zombies, 50% simply trying to survive (food, water, shelter, etc), and 25% other (humans, animals, etc.). I dread when this ends, that's gonna be a real toe pusher :D
  11. Back to Cuba is the only one around here that I've gotten a chance to try. I was real upset one Monday a few months ago when I took my daughter and they were closed. How's their mofongo? I could live off that stuff if done well.
  12. Clearly, this is a known phenomenon, since there are so many videos and accounts out there. However, prior to hearing about this sad and unfortunate event, I wouldn't have ever guessed it could happen. The worst-case-scenario I could envision prior to hearing about this would be that the chick might drop the gun and scratch it all up or maybe sprain her wrist. I actually feel sorry for the people around when this happened. I don't have a problem with anyone calling it negligence, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's ignorance instead.
  13. I've never seen a recall handled like this before. I understand issuing a recall as soon as possible to mitigate liability...err, I mean keep us safe, but I've never heard of a product being recalled for "upgrades" before a fix was discovered. I guess I should be glad they took the complaints about not communicating with us serious. I noticed for the last few weeks they really have let loose with the update emails and texts. I suppose that means they are trying, at least. If I found out these gun shops with XD-S for sale have newly mfg guns instead of recall upgrades, I'd make it my personal mission to bad-mouth SA every chance I got! That would be adding insult to injury, for sure. I hope that's not the case, though, because I'd feel like a total hypocrite since I LOVE the heck out of my lil XD-S and hope to switch back to it as my edc soon.
  14. I was never much of a 45 acp fan either. Even after getting my first 1911, it was only a range toy.   The turning point for me was the XD-S. I think it's easier to shoot than my full size 1911. I know it's only 5+1 rounds, but the mags are tiny. I can fit 3 spares filled with 45 acp awesomeness in a single back pocket.
  15. I got my XD-S back from Springfield yesterday. I had tagged it, packed it in some leftover carpet padding, and put it in a nondescript cardboard box for shipping instead of the original case. When I opened the box they had put my gun in a plastic handgun case for the return trip. So, I got the free magazine AND a free handgun case.   Otherwise, gun feels and operates exactly like it did before. The trigger feels the same as before, which is awesome news to me.   Now I just gotta hold out for Saturday to go put a few hundred rounds through it to ensure reliability. Hopefully that goes well, so I can start using it as my EDC again.
  16.   Do you reckon this shop sent their XD-S inventory in for the recall, like we did and these are their returned guns for sale?

  18.   Mine was sent on 9/3, received on 9/5, and is scheduled to be returned on 11/12.
  19. I got my return shipping notice on Friday. It says I should expect it to arrive Tuesday. I'm excited!!
  20. I have the most luck online, but shipping puts a 500ct brick closer to $30. Still worth it to avoid Walmart roullette.
  21. Part of me still says that carrying a recorder around everywhere I go is paranoid behavior at the least and surreptitious at the most. If one only carries a recorder when they OC, it still seems mostly surreptitious to me. I've never wanted/needed to OC bad enough to "risk" winding up in a situation like this. My personal choice is to carry concealed and avoid the hassle. In all fairness, though, there are those that feel like carrying a gun at all "risks" winding up in a situation of some kind. Likewise, these types think carrying a gun for protection is paranoid too. Either way, the attitude I choose to display to the officer seems to me like it's going to have the most effect on how the confrontation goes. Right or wrong being nice instead of insisting on being right is good karma and goes a long way. I'll choose not being a test case, not being hassled, and not making the news over being right 9 times out of 10. YMMV

  23. 6 months ago the mainstream media would have us believe this kind of flash mob was some sort of crazy conspiracy this, despite several accounts of flash mobs attacking in beating white people for no reason now they're stealing stuff too so it's suddenly a reality Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
  24.   Great point! She clearly didn't see her little boy's robbery (assuming it was armed robbery) as such a bad thing. If she thinks carrying a gun/knife/etc. into a store and demanding money isn't something bad enough to be shot over, then I can see where he got his values from.     This is funny, dude. It reminds me of that Raylan Givens line from "Justified" where he smacks Dewey Crow in the mouth with a gun and tells him "Outlaw life is hard ain't it? You should have stuck with huntin gators it was much safer."
  25.   This is interesting, IMO. At first it sounded like the run-of-the-mill hot shot OC'ing to cause trouble and create a lawsuit. Then more facts made is sound like a completely innocent guy getting harassed by bad cops. Now, the idea of surreptitiously bringing a recorder with you on a routine walk sound like it's back in the former camp again. I'm interested to hear more about why anyone would think they may need to record a conversation while exercising in the park.
