  1. The SA XD-S is my current all around favorite carry gun. It offers a lot of bang for such a small package, but it has it's down sides, though. For instance, that recoil spring is ridiculous. Clearing the chamber when you unload takes some serious muscle. Also, the bore axis is pretty high for such a small piece. I could could go for more than 5 rounds in the mag too, but where would they put them? LOL   Since you mentioned Sig...I held one yesterday that really surprised me. Sig's new P227 amazes me. They were somehow able to stuff more rounds into a wider mag while simultaneously making the grip circumference actually feel smaller in my hand. Sadly, it's not in the same price range as the others.   The Sig P250 has a trigger that, IMO, will not measure up favorably to the the G30 or the XD-S. They are striker fired and that particular model of Sig has a really long heavy trigger (albeit, rather smooth).
  2. Now that's funny right there!!
  3. Gotta love how protective and nurturing dogs can be. My 105# American Bulldog, Lucy, used to sleep with my daughter and protect her. My wife peeked in on her one night when we were going to bed. Lucy only saw the silhouette in the door and the growl was ferocious. It actually scared my wife pretty bad. As soon as she spoke and the dog knew who she was, she was back to tail wagging and friendly.
  4. You just mirrored my exact experience with sharpening knives. I couldn't hold the blade at the right angle consistently enough to use a stone and the Chef's Choice just barely worked. Now everyone thinks I'm a blade sharpening genius. Using the Spyderco Sharpmaker is almost like cheating, LOL.
  5. I tried a shoulder holster once. Since I was just trying it out, I didn't want to spend much. So, I got an inexpensive ($25) nylon rig. Luckily I didn't spend too much, because I found it a bit uncomfortable. Someone on a leather working forum told me that a good one made to fit makes a lot of difference, but who wants to drop $200+ on a rig they may not like? Plus, leather creaks and that seems like it'd get you made pretty easy. $50 is a lot of money to me to drop on something I don't know I'd like and may not be able to resell. My recommendation is to find one in a store that will let you try it on first.
  6. Whether you like it or not, believe it's part of an agenda or not, or just don't care either way, open homosexuality is a fact of life. As long as nobody makes me watch, tries to force me to approve of it, or asks me to stop finding it disgusting, let them do as they like.
  7. Would love to see a pic of those Makarov grips. Did you order them from Marschal's?
  8. Love that little grill! As far as cleaning, I'm like you. If it won't wipe out, I try a little water and that usually works. If it doesn't a very light scrub with Chore Boy is all I risk doing to it, because, after wiping mine down with a little oil I always store mine on the top rack in the oven. They stay there when I bake and get moved to the bottom rack, if I'm broiling. It cooks stuff right off the pans. Seems to keep them better seasoned too, but I'm not sure. Would love to hear an opinion on this too.
  9. I've been doing drills in the garage all day. So, fun!
  10. this is way more fun than anyone should be allowed to have indoors with clothes on
  11. Santa brought me a shiny new roller handle for one of my Dillons, a box of SPP, a book to log my meager collection, and this glorious piece of technology: I'll post some more pics of the laser targets in action when I get them unpacked. thanks, Santa, you're awesome!!
  12. If you mean the one with orange scales like the one across from it with blue scales, I was going to ask the same question. Very cool blade shape. Would love to have one, but probably can't afford it, LOL. Merry Christmas, BigK
  13. Yesterday on Netflix, I found the first season, which I had missed. It's not quite as funny as the 2nd/3rd seasons, but still not bad. I like the oldest daughter from the 1st season better, though.
  14. I only watch a few sitcoms nowadays and this is one of them. I love the way he digs at his daughter's commie, libtard, hippie baby-daddy.   Another really good part of the show is his black neighbor, who he exchanges jabs with. Good-natured and respectful in the end.
  15. Had a crazy guy park his minivan in the left hand lane of traffic on a 4-lane divided hwy trapping me in the left turn lane. He got out of his vehicle and approached mine cussing and slobbering mad. I prepped my draw, but waited to see if traffic moved to give me a way out first. I'm glad I was able to leave before he tried getting in my truck or whatever. I think we all get mad at people in traffic, but I can't help but wonder what makes people think they can just get out and try to fight somebody over it.
  16. Interesting that since it was known early that the whacko used a shotgun, the media isn't so focused on the gun's capacity; type of ammo; whether it was single-shot, pump, or the uber-deadly semi-auto; if it had tactical cop-killer grips and military equipment like rails, sights, etc.
  17. Glad to hear a report on how things usually go for a change instead of only hearing about it when something bad happens. Like you said, sounds like, even if he had written you a ticket it would have been a normal stop. I'm happy to say I have only had one bad experience with an LEO in my life. I was 16 at the time and all I recall from the encounter was feeling like a big shot, because "I didn't take no crap" when he was hassling me. I'm sure I'm leaving out some details that were more likely the cause of me leaving with a ticket than whatever it was I was pulled over for..
  18. I'm very glad the victim came out of this alive and unapologetically disappointed that one of these scumbags did too.
  19. It's disgusting of these administrators to label kissing someone on the hand as "sexual" harassment. He's got no clue what that is. However, he has kissed this same little girl on the cheek before (still not sexual harassment without sexual intent at his age). So, maybe mom should have had a stern conversation about what's okay and what's not okay after the first incident.
  20. The idea of refusing to serve someone because of religious beliefs can lead to messy assumptions. In this case there was no hiding the fact that the cake purchasers were gay and the baker has religious objections to gay marriage. In most cases it's hard to know if someone is an adulterer, fornicator, child molester, thief, murderer, etc. His other potential customers don't walk in his door celebrating sins to which he has religious beliefs against and the occasion for his services isn't centered around a ceremony that he feels makes a mockery of what he likely views as a religious bond.    That's the problem I see with people claiming Christians pick and choose which sins they take a stance against. Most people don't advertise and/or celebrate their sins. I'm sure there are some here that would deny that he would refuse to make a "There is no God" cake for an atheist party or even a "God Hates Fags" cake for the Westboro Baptist Church idiots. I, for one, suspect he would.   The reason this comes to light with the gay community so often is because they don't recognize homosexuality as a sin and are so "in your face" about their lifestyle that it's impossible not to see.
  21.   I highly recommend this method too. They aren't all winners, but I must have watched 10 different guys on YouTube explain the process. Between them all and the 2 reloading manuals I read, I learned how to do it well enough to explain it before I ever even set up my first press.
  22.   That's awesome news, thanks. I found one a few months back, but I know someone else, besides the OP, that is also looking for one. I'll pass this along.
  23. Congrats on the new press, man. Sorry to hear you can't play with it yet. That would drive me crazy.   I have a 650 set up for 9mm and a 550 set up for .45 acp. If you like the 550, I think you'll love the 650, especially after you add the case feeder. There's no words for how awesome it is to knock out 300 rounds in about 15 minutes on your way out the door for the shooting range.
  24. This guy has been championing a losing cause longer than some of us have been breathing. Before obesity got to the level it is today, he was out there trying to do something to change our eating culture. Sure, he's made a buck here and there, but we'd be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated person to his/her passion. Like, McGarrett said, he seems like a perfect fit for Michelle Obama's health program. Much better, in fact, than the Schwarzenegger was for George H.W. Bush's fitness program in the early 90's. Maybe they were afraid of being associated with this kind of image:
  25. Does that mean you can't use a dropped and offset holster? Will everyone have to wait in line to get their guns inspected for upgrades and to be sure they fit the box? Will all ammo be chrono'd to be sure it meets MPF?
