Rescuing a mutt from the pound is very noble and honorable, don't get me wrong. But, there's something special about getting a certain breed of dog that you've always wanted. I finally got the American Bulldog I always wanted about 10 years ago and she's been more special to me than any other dog I ever had. She'll pass eventually and once I get over the heartache, I'll go to the pound, rescue a mutt, and love it as much as I can. However, no other dog will compare and I won't even try "replacing" her with another from her breed.

thought about buying one for my daughter when she moves out...reliable enough for home defense...worthless enough that she won't bother pawning it, if money gets tight

I'm guessing their marketing department has convinced operations and finance that this was a good idea, but I don't believe it. I bet they cannibalize more of their own sales than they gain from their competitors. I'd also bet that they don't recover their start-up costs for this line of pistols for many many many years.

This week's Tac TV episode was about the Tanfoglio factory and their pistols. Any reservations I ever had about quality with this brand are completely out the window now. Finding upgrades and spare parts will still suck, admittedly. Turns out they have 36 pro shooters all over the world competing in all the major games. Each shooter is racking up over 100K rounds per year. According to Massimo, the owner, the factory is regularly soliciting and implementing changes based on pro shooter feedback.

I like the idea, aligning lines seems better than aligning the top of the front and rear, since one is always out of focus. I see this as an improvement on the Straight 8 concept.

LOL, what you said reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where he was mad at some other comedian for converting to Judaism just so he could tell Jewish jokes. Maybe only former/current Hi-Point owners should be allowed to talk smack? I was a member of their target market at one time and owned one too. I'd still have it too, but I had gotten better guns over time and a friend needed something cheap/reliable.

I've shot Brown Bear before as well. I wouldn't call it good ammo, but I'd agree it works. I just hate that lacquer coating and how bad it smokes. Steel cases are also rough on your extractor too.

It wouldn't surprise me if the AP released reports from a high-level White House leak that claim Rodman is actually a top-secret CIA spy sent to N. Korea by the Obama administration to use his charm, grace, good looks, and fashion taste to win Kim's affections, marry him, and use that influence to change the country's policies. I have a co-worker who owns a gun shop. She's a certified NRA instructor, former Marine, has an HCP, and really knows her stuff when it comes to guns. Her dad runs runs the shop full-time, but she's not a silent partner by any stretch.

Pretty wicked stuff. I like it. However, I fear the lefties may have me brainwashed, because it sounds like lawsuit ammo to me.

I don't know what the gripe is. I freaking love my lil XD-S. It's not perfect, but where else are you gonna get that much firepower out of such a small package?   Congrats on the new firepower, Dustbuster!

  I know what you mean, I'm a database administrator, myself. The newspaper surely already has a database engine and the necessary hardware. So, these costs are nearly zero. However, manpower is not free.   There are a lot of states and constant updates to make. I sincerely doubt the states make the data extracts simple to subscribe to. That means you have to have someone pulling data files and loading them often enough for the data to be meaningful as far as being current goes.   The staff to gather this data from the states, create the import routines, maintain the database, and create/run reports against that data aren't exactly minimum wage workers. Your average database resource in IT is charged around $125/hr to projects where I work (and we're a small shop).   I'm sure these people could be doing something to make selling newspapers easier instead of all this work on the CCW database. This project could easily cost tens of thousands of dollars over the course of 2 or 3 years. So, they must have a money-making purpose to justify the internal manpower cost of such a project.

Interesting stuff there, Bersaguy.   Who'd have thought an appointed gov't worker was less of an expert on their specialty than an average joe? </sarcasm>

The money required to set up and maintain a list of HCP holders for a single state seems quite expensive unless you have big plans for it.

For damage that substantial, I'd have called the police that night and had a report on file for my insurance. I can see not wanting friends to get in trouble for leaving the scene, but they aren't friends if they DID leave the scene.   Call me a jerk, but I even called the police to report that my own 16 yr old daughter took one of our cars without permission. She hit our mailbox on the way out of the driveway and damaged the car. I'm a strong believer in tough love.

They won based on rights to privacy, IIRC. However, if these people don't publicize the database, what can be done? Better question is obviously, what do they plan to do with the information?

I took a break from the story for about a month. Now that I'm back at it, I don't know how I was able to stop. I'm up to about a year after "the day".
