  1. Isn't that amazing? I even debated a similar issue with some non-thinkers after the 9/11 attacks. They couldn't even acknowledge that it may have turned out better if there had been armed flight personnel or even armed passengers on those flights. In their mind, a gun ALWAYS makes the situation worse. Yep, worse than 3000 people being murdered. It's just an emotional reaction and no amount of logic will get through until they are in that situation themselves. Some of those involved will unfortunately believe that stricter gun control would have prevented it. However, I hope that there are many more that will say to themselves "I wish I'd had a gun". Because next time, they probably will.
  2. IMO, those of us in Condition Yellow should be not only watching what's going on around us, but thinking about "what if". Richard Marcinko called it "war-gaming". Believe it or not, I've sat in a movie theater and imagined what I could possibly do if this very thing were to happen. And I avoid crowded theaters like the plague. Not only because I hate crowds, but in case of events like this one. In this case, I believe it would have been extremely difficult for even an aware and competent armed citizen to take this guy out for the reasons stated above. A theater packed with panicky kids, OC gas, light from the screen in your face and just a silhouette of the bad guy. Unless the good guy/gal was near where the gunman entered and wasn't immediately overcome with tear gas, I'm betting a clean shot would have been difficult. Not that it shouldn't have been attempted... As far as being afraid to act, I'm not sure that's the case in a situation such as this. I think that most people, given the choice between dying while sitting still and dying while trying to stop a murderer will try to stop him. I just think that they were taken by surprise because they were in Condition White to begin with, and they had no clue how to react because they had never even considered the possibility.
  3. Well, they're not actually TRYING to round up 40 million illegals. As a matter of fact, the feds are suing states that try to do so. Yes, we still have a Constitution, which has been routinely ignored and circumvented by congress and especially the current administration. I have zero doubt that the Occupier of the white house would be a dictator, given the opportunity. And Alex Jones has NO credibility with me. I'm basing my opinion on what I have observed. No, there will probably be no "round-up" of millions of weapons. At least not all at one time. These people work through incrementalism. Although, I would like to remind the readers about what happened in Australia in '96/'97. They DID round up verboten weapons. There was no "uprising". Anyone think it would be different here? Free minds have been conditioned out of the population over the course of decades. A round-up would be unnecessary. Most would go stand in line to hand them in to be melted down. I mean, after all, who wants to have their favorite TV show, or the playoffs, or the olympics interrupted by a knock on the door by a fed agent demanding your guns. I know I wouldn't!
  4. I saw an ad for it today. It made me think of this thread. If I had a bit more disposable cash, I'd have one. http://bugasalt.com/
  5. That's a good price on that ammo. But I've got a whole bunch of brass that a friend gave me. I may start loading up some of that today. Will
  6. That's pretty schweet. I got a Delta Elite in the late '80s when I was a teenager. It's mostly been a safe queen since. Makes me want to drag it out and shoot it. Thanks for the pix. Will
  7. Sounds cold, doesn't it? But yes, the love and respect of my family IS worth more to me than a stranger's life. And certainly worth more than money. Would I trade my wife for a trillion dollars? Nope. Sounds like a given, but there are many who would do just that. No, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone on this board. Maybe I should just retract everything I've said and shut up in this thread. I can't seem to get any point across clearly. I did say I WOULD act, up to and including deadly force. Because it's the right thing to do, not because I have feelings for a stranger. As I said before, I've never been in the situation, and I hope I never am. My whole philosophy may change in an instant. I may be scared to the point of incontinence (doubt it, that's never happened to me in stressful situations before) or I may suddenly feel such sympathy for the victim and anger toward the aggressor (I CAN see that happening, maybe) that I rip off his arm and beat him to death with it (also unlikely). My point is, I Just. Don't. Know. As I said before, it's all situation dependent. I'm gonna shut up now.
  8. Good to know. I thought Glock barrels were nitrocarburized and very difficult if not impossible to make rust. My carry piece gets sweated on a lot in the summer. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks, Will
  9. Lots of good advice here. I know for sure that 1 liter per day wouldn't be near enough for me even with cool temps and little activity. I'd plan for AT LEAST a gallon per person per day. Just for hydration. More if it's hot and/or you're working hard.
  10. No disagreement. Whipping out Roscoe wouldn't be my first move either. I know most have said they would do something. Like everything else in life, it's all situation-dependent.
  11. I totally agree that your first responsibility is to your family. Not attempting to gain any moral high ground. Just saying that it would be difficult to live with myself if I watched an innocent person get murdered. Wait, I may be wrong about that too. I probably could live with myself. But if my wife was with me or found out that I had the ability and opportunity to help someone in that situation and didn't, she would lose respect for me. That respect is worth more to me than any amount of money. Like another poster said, I could care less about "society". My love is all reserved for my family and close friends. The only emotion I have for others is hatred and anger when some worthless fool endangers (even accidentally) the life or well-being of my loved ones. That said, like I said before, I won't stand by and watch an innocent get stabbed, even if the only way to stop it is to use deadly force. Not because I have any love for the person or it will make me feel bad if she's killed. Maybe it's just principle. Then again, maybe I'm talking out of my arse. I've never been in such a situation. I might wet my pants and run away screaming like a little girl. Who knows.
  12. It may not be obvious who the actual victim is. Then again it may be quite clear. If my wife tries to stab me, I'll take the knife away from her, but I won't then start stabbing her. I agree with escalation of force. I'll call 911. I'll yell at the aggressor to stop. I'll keep assessing the situation. I'll pepper spray him if possible. But if he doesn't stop, I'll stop him. I won't go hands-on either with someone armed with a blade. But there is very little physical danger to myself if I shoot someone who is stabbing someone else. Legally or civilly, maybe. Especially civilly. I couldn't find the video I was looking for (it involves a man stabbing his estranged wife while people walk by), but I found this one. Looks like it's from the Netherregions. Sorry, I won't call the cops and leave, or call the cops and watch while a woman is murdered. If you can do so and live with yourself, fine for you. Of course, he may have just been defending himself from her. http://www.liveleak....=5e1_1199622703
  13. Looks kinda neat. I've thought for a long time that necking down a 7.62x25 to .224" would be fun to do. I just lack the resources. I wonder why they didn't go that route. Then tinkerers like me could form brass from the Tok round. Would need to be shortened as well, to fit in most handgun mags.
  14. Sounds like it was tear gas. And he was wearing a gas mask. That's according to a witness the local station just interviewed.
  15. My first thought was how conveniently timed this is with the UN ATT. But it's exactly the thing the ant-gun nuts need. They'll be there dancing in the blood today. I'm sorry to sound like I'm politicizing this tragedy. I'm sending prayers to the wounded and the families of the dead. Will
  16. The one in Knox on N Peters Rd. They used to occasionally have decent sales on ammo. So I went in there the other day to kill some time and I couldn't find ammo or guns. I know where the gun counter used to be. It wasn't there. I walked around the perimeter a couple times in case they just moved it. Still couldn't find the goods. Did I just get lost? When did they stop selling guns? Will P.S. I'm gonna feel really stupid if they're still selling shootin' stuff and I didn't find it.
  17. That is a good thing to hear. At least we can be pretty sure that it was civilian LE who were involved in the B&Es, assaults and thefts. Far be it from me to disparage our military undeservedly or our law-abiding LEOs.
  18. CMMG seems to be floating around everywhere, but all I can find are 1:7 or 1:8 twist. But they're priced right and I THINK all their barrels are Melonite/nitrocarbed.
  19. I like Fenix lights. That's where I keep one (not a Fenix) mounted on my rifle. Except on the other side because I shoot left-handed. Will
  20. Yes, I don't believe the same thing would happen, or would have happened in the same situation, except in a place like NO. But I can think of many places where it would almost certainly happen again. Think Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC, D.C. The caller said he was a gung-ho 21 yo. Guess what, there will always be a new crop of youngsters who will be just as ignorant of the law. It most likely won't happen here, or FL, or TX, etc., but I don't believe for a second that it wouldn't happen again somewhere. I don't know if anyone was killed. Probably nobody was, or we'd know about it. But what would have happened if someone had resisted those unlawful entries with force?
  21. You are, of course, correct. However, rights can be usurped and infringed by governments. As they have been throughout history. Our foundation, the Constitution, was the first in history (that I know of) to enumerate and guarantee the rights of the individual over the government. Of course that doesn't sit well with those who lust for power. There are tyrants throughout recorded history who only want power over others. They will always find their way to positions of authority. Our Constitution was written to keep those very tyrants in check. But only if those in power consider themselves constrained by law. Why was the Second Amendment written? To guarantee that even if tyrants hold power that they cannot infringe upon the rights of the individual. It works. As long as a majority of citizens recognize that reason.... Unfortunately, too many have been conditioned to believe that anyone who recognizes that right must be a "kook". Or an "anti-government extremist". And that the government can do anything it wants, simply because it IS the government. So they don't even question when that gov breaks the very law (the Constitution) that created it. I know people, even in my own family, that think a firearm can be "banned" just because it isn't useful for hunting. The recognition of our God-given (or natural) rights has been bred out of us over the past century. Maybe it was never there. I do remember reading that the American Revolution was actively fought by only about 3% of the population. And only 10% were active supporters. But we won anyway. Don't forget, those patriots were "enemies of the state" at the time. The "kooks" and "anti-government extremists" of their day. Whew, I bet I just got the attention of some .gov agency. I better go to bed. Will Edit: Oops, I forgot to add my tinfoil hat smiley. Thanks gjohnson for doing that for me. Come get me you gubmint goons!
  22. Yes. That's a common place for dents. That said, be sure you aren't overlubing your cases. That can cause denting in the shoulder. Are the dents there after firing but before resizing?
  23. I'm a Tellico Plains native myself. When did you grow up there? I grew up between town and Ballplay, but went to Tellico for elementary. I assume that you went to Rural Vale elementary. My uncle lives there. Thank the Good Lord that Dolly didn't get Stokely Bottoms. Don't think for a second that Sevier Co is any better in regards to meth and all the other BS that comes along with it. On top of the drug problems, they have roads that are impassable nearly year-round because of the tourons . And all the associated crime that comes along with overpopulation. I wouldn't have that for anything. Will
  24. Widener's has some AR500 in stock. http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=1020
  25. I remember him being on Neal Boortz' show a few years ago. Don't remember exactly when. And he stated that he and Neal were on different sides of the issue. He was on the side opposing 'assault weapons'. It's been a few years and I don't remember the exact quotes. Doesn't matter really, as long as he's really changed his stance. Glad to have him. Unfortunately, in my observation, his predictions have been mistaken, sometimes. Will
