  1. I will soon. I just ordered a bunch of them.
  2. Well, I probably should have linked to the specific bullets that are on sale instead of the search results. $20/500 = $40/1000 Which is an unusually good deal for Midway. I bought 2000 for $99 shipped. $80/1000 is a great regular price, though. Whatever. Just thought I'd pass it along.
  3. Never mind the group order. Good deal on these bullets, though. http://www.midwayusa...serSearchQuery= Will
  4. You can buy .30 Tok bullets if you aren't a tinkerer and don't have a bunch of pulled bullets laying around. Good ones, too. I bet the expansion from these would be pretty dramatic from a BLK. http://www.midwayusa...mensionid=6262
  5. Yup. Agreed. I hope he actually has changed his stance. Particularly on things like guns and gov-controlled health care. We'll see, I guess.
  6. That will not happen until we restrict who can vote to only the producers and exclude the parasites. "If only people would vote their principles/conscience then we could get a good candidate/Ron Paul/etc." Blah, blah, blah. I hear it every 4 years. The problem is that 75% or more don't know what the F they're voting for or against in the first place. They know that Dem-icans promise them freebies and Republi-crats promise them lower taxes. I love most of Ron Paul's policies. I'll accept his foreign policy in order to have his domestic policy. But listen to me. HE IS NOT GOING TO BE ELECTED. A vote for RP is a vote taken from Romney, for the most part. I'm not happy that Romney is the Republican candidate. I believe that, at best, he will SLOW DOWN government overgrowth, rather than completely reverse BO's policies. And the policies of the last century that have led us to where we are. At this point I will take a slow-down so that I may prepare myself and my family for whatever is to become of this country in the next few years. Keeping BO in office will keep us on the fast-track to ruin. I don't think it will take him another four years to completely ruin us. I won't hold a grudge against anyone who votes Libertarian in the the general election. I am libertarian. But I will hold my nose and vote for Romney in order to get this marxist out of the white house. Incrementalism. It's how they work and how we have to work. Romney first. Then someone more conservative. Then someone slightly libertarian. Then full-fledged freedom-loving Constitutionalist. That is, if the whole shebang doesn't swirl down the crapper first. The biggest mistake the left made? Obama, a hard-core leftist with a hard-core agenda and not afraid to implement it. With a more "moderate", squishy, wishy-washy prez (think McCain), we'd still be on the wrong track, but much slower. But there wouldn't be the backlash that there has been. If there is one bright side to his "presidency", it is the backlash that it brought. Is it enough backlash to save us? That is yet to be seen. We'll have a clue in November. I'm rambling. Sorry about that. There isn't much continuity in the above. It's past my bedtime. Will P.S. The above wasn't directed at you, Plank. Just random thoughts.
  7. I agree. I've had many misfires, but never a hangfire. Not to say that it can't happen, but I believe that 30 second rule is left over from cordite or even black powder days. When hangfires actually did happen. I have fired some really old .303 British loaded with actual cordite. I wouldn't call it hangfires, but it seemed like all rounds suffered from slow ignition. There was a noticeable lag between striker fall and firing. With modern ammunition, I train to clear the bad round and shoot again.
  8. I'm visualizing someone trying to hold a pistol like a rifle, with strong hand on the grip and the other resting under the barrel like it's a rifle stock. Then one finger gets extended a bit too far.... I don't know if that's what this guy was doing, but I've seen some people do some pretty silly things when they don't know any better.
  9. Ok, so Craigslist is definitely out. I hadn't considered going to any of the "WE BUY GOLD" places. I just guessed that they would offer maybe half value. I'll try that jewelry store (can't remember the name right now) that says they'll buy gold. The one in the same shopping center as Barnes and Noble. Thanks guys, Will
  10. I've thought about posting it in the general classifieds here, and I still may, but... I have a couple US minted gold coins. Nothing collectible, just worth the gold value AFAIK. I hate to sell them, but I need a little capital. The local coin shop buys for about 90% of spot price and I'd like to get a little closer to spot than that. I'm not sure I want to go the Craigslist route. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Will
  11. Yup. Hope so. He quit before the police arrived, didn't he? I guess he wasn't really looking for a shootout with anyone.
  12. Yes and yes. I don't know if it would have been obvious in a dark theater, but I do recognize body armor. I have several LE friends and it's quite obvious when they're wearing it. Only thing you CAN do. Shoot until they stop. if body shots don't stop them go for the head. I may get shot, but I'll get shot while I'm shooting. Steel ammo may be a good idea, but don't tell anybody.
  13. Isn't that amazing? I even debated a similar issue with some non-thinkers after the 9/11 attacks. They couldn't even acknowledge that it may have turned out better if there had been armed flight personnel or even armed passengers on those flights. In their mind, a gun ALWAYS makes the situation worse. Yep, worse than 3000 people being murdered. It's just an emotional reaction and no amount of logic will get through until they are in that situation themselves. Some of those involved will unfortunately believe that stricter gun control would have prevented it. However, I hope that there are many more that will say to themselves "I wish I'd had a gun". Because next time, they probably will.
  14. IMO, those of us in Condition Yellow should be not only watching what's going on around us, but thinking about "what if". Richard Marcinko called it "war-gaming". Believe it or not, I've sat in a movie theater and imagined what I could possibly do if this very thing were to happen. And I avoid crowded theaters like the plague. Not only because I hate crowds, but in case of events like this one. In this case, I believe it would have been extremely difficult for even an aware and competent armed citizen to take this guy out for the reasons stated above. A theater packed with panicky kids, OC gas, light from the screen in your face and just a silhouette of the bad guy. Unless the good guy/gal was near where the gunman entered and wasn't immediately overcome with tear gas, I'm betting a clean shot would have been difficult. Not that it shouldn't have been attempted... As far as being afraid to act, I'm not sure that's the case in a situation such as this. I think that most people, given the choice between dying while sitting still and dying while trying to stop a murderer will try to stop him. I just think that they were taken by surprise because they were in Condition White to begin with, and they had no clue how to react because they had never even considered the possibility.
  15. Well, they're not actually TRYING to round up 40 million illegals. As a matter of fact, the feds are suing states that try to do so. Yes, we still have a Constitution, which has been routinely ignored and circumvented by congress and especially the current administration. I have zero doubt that the Occupier of the white house would be a dictator, given the opportunity. And Alex Jones has NO credibility with me. I'm basing my opinion on what I have observed. No, there will probably be no "round-up" of millions of weapons. At least not all at one time. These people work through incrementalism. Although, I would like to remind the readers about what happened in Australia in '96/'97. They DID round up verboten weapons. There was no "uprising". Anyone think it would be different here? Free minds have been conditioned out of the population over the course of decades. A round-up would be unnecessary. Most would go stand in line to hand them in to be melted down. I mean, after all, who wants to have their favorite TV show, or the playoffs, or the olympics interrupted by a knock on the door by a fed agent demanding your guns. I know I wouldn't!
  16. I saw an ad for it today. It made me think of this thread. If I had a bit more disposable cash, I'd have one. http://bugasalt.com/
  17. That's a good price on that ammo. But I've got a whole bunch of brass that a friend gave me. I may start loading up some of that today. Will
  18. That's pretty schweet. I got a Delta Elite in the late '80s when I was a teenager. It's mostly been a safe queen since. Makes me want to drag it out and shoot it. Thanks for the pix. Will
  19. Sounds cold, doesn't it? But yes, the love and respect of my family IS worth more to me than a stranger's life. And certainly worth more than money. Would I trade my wife for a trillion dollars? Nope. Sounds like a given, but there are many who would do just that. No, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone on this board. Maybe I should just retract everything I've said and shut up in this thread. I can't seem to get any point across clearly. I did say I WOULD act, up to and including deadly force. Because it's the right thing to do, not because I have feelings for a stranger. As I said before, I've never been in the situation, and I hope I never am. My whole philosophy may change in an instant. I may be scared to the point of incontinence (doubt it, that's never happened to me in stressful situations before) or I may suddenly feel such sympathy for the victim and anger toward the aggressor (I CAN see that happening, maybe) that I rip off his arm and beat him to death with it (also unlikely). My point is, I Just. Don't. Know. As I said before, it's all situation dependent. I'm gonna shut up now.
  20. Good to know. I thought Glock barrels were nitrocarburized and very difficult if not impossible to make rust. My carry piece gets sweated on a lot in the summer. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks, Will
  21. Lots of good advice here. I know for sure that 1 liter per day wouldn't be near enough for me even with cool temps and little activity. I'd plan for AT LEAST a gallon per person per day. Just for hydration. More if it's hot and/or you're working hard.
  22. No disagreement. Whipping out Roscoe wouldn't be my first move either. I know most have said they would do something. Like everything else in life, it's all situation-dependent.
  23. I totally agree that your first responsibility is to your family. Not attempting to gain any moral high ground. Just saying that it would be difficult to live with myself if I watched an innocent person get murdered. Wait, I may be wrong about that too. I probably could live with myself. But if my wife was with me or found out that I had the ability and opportunity to help someone in that situation and didn't, she would lose respect for me. That respect is worth more to me than any amount of money. Like another poster said, I could care less about "society". My love is all reserved for my family and close friends. The only emotion I have for others is hatred and anger when some worthless fool endangers (even accidentally) the life or well-being of my loved ones. That said, like I said before, I won't stand by and watch an innocent get stabbed, even if the only way to stop it is to use deadly force. Not because I have any love for the person or it will make me feel bad if she's killed. Maybe it's just principle. Then again, maybe I'm talking out of my arse. I've never been in such a situation. I might wet my pants and run away screaming like a little girl. Who knows.
  24. It may not be obvious who the actual victim is. Then again it may be quite clear. If my wife tries to stab me, I'll take the knife away from her, but I won't then start stabbing her. I agree with escalation of force. I'll call 911. I'll yell at the aggressor to stop. I'll keep assessing the situation. I'll pepper spray him if possible. But if he doesn't stop, I'll stop him. I won't go hands-on either with someone armed with a blade. But there is very little physical danger to myself if I shoot someone who is stabbing someone else. Legally or civilly, maybe. Especially civilly. I couldn't find the video I was looking for (it involves a man stabbing his estranged wife while people walk by), but I found this one. Looks like it's from the Netherregions. Sorry, I won't call the cops and leave, or call the cops and watch while a woman is murdered. If you can do so and live with yourself, fine for you. Of course, he may have just been defending himself from her. http://www.liveleak....=5e1_1199622703
  25. Looks kinda neat. I've thought for a long time that necking down a 7.62x25 to .224" would be fun to do. I just lack the resources. I wonder why they didn't go that route. Then tinkerers like me could form brass from the Tok round. Would need to be shortened as well, to fit in most handgun mags.
