  1. Cheapest that I have seen locally was Stars and Stripes Shooting Sports in Maryville on Hwy 411. It was around $25/box, I think. Sellier and Bellot FMJ. I haven't checked Walmart's price. I don't recommend the Winchester White Box I got at Academy. I couldn't keep it on a paper plate at 30 feet with my Glock. The S&B is much, much better. Typical handgun group (for me). I used to be much better though. I need more trigger time. I'm going to have to try to find some 357 SIG dies at the next show.
  2. Didja see the black fingernail polish and the capris pants in the video. A bleeding heart liberal at best. I bet he peed himself when he saw that it was a rifle.
  3. Wow, can't beat Seabeejason's story. But here's mine. Won races all the time when I was in Elementary school. I was a fast little bugger. Also won several spelling bees. I think I even got a trophy one year. As far as luck rather than skill... My wife won $5000 about 11 years ago in WIVK's "Birthday Bucks". Unfortunately, she was only my girlfriend at the time, so I had no say as to where it was spent. I would have paid off bills... Won $9 playing the Powerball once. Lady at the Amoco tried to bilk me by saying it was a $3 ticket. Won $75 in Reno. I took my wife to a business meeting to make it a mini vacation. One day we were standing on an upper level watching people play slots. One machine kept paying off every few "pulls". After the meeting, I went to that machine and played a few bucks. Ended up clearing 75 bucks. I think we broke even, because my wife was having a ball playing all the games and probably lost about that much. Even though I'm not a big gambler, I didn't begrudge her that because she was having fun. I've found that we make our own fortunes. The last few years, I've been keeping company with entrepreneurs and successful people. I've learned to make wise financial decisions. I've tried to drag some of my friends with me toward better financial success. Part of my journey involves helping others on theirs. Some listen, some don't. I still have some unsecured debt, but I'm confident that it will be gone by the middle of next year (barring total economic collapse, but it wouldn't matter then anyway). Will
  4. Bummer. It opened for me a couple hours ago. I just now closed it. It was an interesting read. Even the comments, except the typical ones from typically stupid people.
  5. Sounds like you are only asking about WHICH AR, as you already have a Mini-14. Like a couple other people said, the Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport is a good rifle for the money. For the same money, I'd pass on DPMS and Bushmaster, etc. Nothing wrong with them, per se, but the S&W is a better buy. There may well be some more good deals out there since more and more companies are popping up and building AR-style rifles.
  6. In a sealed METAL container, probably, but I'd think a faraday cage would be just as effective. When I can, I'm going to build a steel garage to park our vehicles in. And hope that if an EMP hits, we're parked in it at the time.
  7. I don't like the database, but I don't think anything negative has come of it. I dare say that probably MOST HCP holders do not carry on a regular basis. I carry every day because I need the extra 2 pounds on my right side to keep me from walking in circles. But I only wear my seat belt when I think I'll need it.
  8. "one count of leaving the scene of an accident." I don't think it was an accident.
  9. There's a store that sells them here in Knox at East Town Knoxville Center Mall. I saw it the other day.
  10. Can you really count a POS FMJ derringer as a gun? I mean, it DOES make a round fire, but I can do that with a hammer and nail.
  11. This. Big time. Don't overcomplicate it. Coat metal parts with a light layer of cosmoline or grease. You don't want to have to soak them in solvent to put them back together, do you? Throw in a small dessicant pack. Make sure your container is sealed completely and that it will stay that way. PVC pipe with solid, cemented end caps will last longer than you will as long as it's not in sunlight. UV will break down PVC and make it fragile. As for ammo, put it in a zip-loc type bag. That's enough. There isn't going to be enough moisture in that small space to do any damage. Try to assemble the container where it's dry. Do it in the winter in front of your heater. Practically no moisture in the air there. If not possible, the dessicant will take care of any moisture in the container. All the above is in the interest of redundancy. Because I love redundancy, I love redundancy. As long as your container is sealed well and stays sealed, you will have a perfectly functional piece of metal when you take it out. Forget air-purging and all that. Keep it simple. Vacuum-seal if you want, but, again, it's redundant.
  12. As you found out, apparently, tubes that do not use the standard barrel nut should come with their own proprietary nut.
  13. All the more reason that I (almost) never sell a gun. Last one I sold, I debated with myself for literally years and finally listed it on this site. Got a good deal on a partial trade. That's one of only two sells that I do not regret. I may give guns away to family or friends, but as a general rule, I do not sell. Will
  14. I've tried the .32 Longs. The cases swell terribly. It's not a good fit. Factory ammo isn't terribly uncommon, so I just use that. It isn't something I shoot very often anyway. Have no experience handloading them, but I intend to try soon. Will
  15. Nope. It's just north of the Baker-Peter's Jazz Club. I always thought they should have switched the order of the names.

    Flash Mobs

Some have already been violent. They're not all just "flash robs". I remember hearing about this when it happened. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/report-black-mobs-attack-white-patrons-outside-wis-state-fair/#
  17. I was going to stop at CFA today for lunch, but I have a natural aversion to long lines. I'll try again later this evening. If not, I'll make up for it in the days to come, for sure. Will
  18. You do not want to be caught hunting in the Smokies, for sure. Admiral Jedi, you may want to try to find someone with a large tract of private land. You can do what you want then, as long as you follow game laws. Will
  19. Well, I was carrying (before I took off my pants for the night.... What? TMI?) a Cold Steel Pro Lite. Been carrying it going on 8 or 10 years. Stays sharp, is very strong and tough and opens in a flash. I've been thinking recently about switching to something else. I've had this one so long I'm attached to it. If I lost it, I may be upset. Maybe go to a smallish fixed blade. Not sure yet.
  20. KUB recently installed a transmitter type meter on ours. Poor meter readers couldn't figure out how to unlock the combination padlock on the gate to get into the yard even though they have the combo. I was glad to have it. I don't like strangers in my yard. One guy missed the meter and was wandering around the backyard. I nearly pulled on him because he startled me. I was in my basement and saw a strange man pass by my basement door. Transmitting meter = no meter readers in the yard. I say Will Edit: Next house will be off the grid completely.
  21. What he said. Plus, while open carry is legal in TN, hence legal on the TN side of the Smokies, not all Parkies will be aware of the law and may call LE on you (while wetting their pants) if they spot a gun. Especially if they're seasonal. LE will know the law, but to avoid hassle, I'd just keep it concealed Also remember that NC law applies while on the NC side of the park and TN law applies on the TN side. So when you cross Newfound Gap, the law changes. I am not very familiar with NC law. One more thing... please, PLEASE. For the love of all that is Holy. Do NOT stop in the middle of the road to see a bear. If you just HAVE to see a bear that is stopping traffic, find a place to pull out of the road. THEN go join the herd of tourists that are snapping pictures. The residents of Sevier Co and other Park employees will thank you. Have a good trip, and congratulations! Will
  22. Apparently so. I got them strictly for plinking and training purposes, which is what I think they're meant for. Especially on steel targets. They eliminate dangerous splatter. I watched a video of someone running some Sinterfire (same bullets as the Remington, maybe?) rounds through an MP5 at a steel target at near contact distance. They just turn to dust when they hit. For defense, I'll stick with JHP. But I won't need thousands of them. I hope not, anyway. Edit: I couldn't find the MP5 video, but here is a pistol shooting at steel with sintered metal bullets.
  23. Yeah, we're good. Sorry for the snarkiness in the last post. My point was the the Midway deal was the best I've seen. $40/k is better than $80/k. I got an awesome deal on Tula primers from David's table at the last show that I went to. He has good prices. But when I find a screaming deal from Midway, with whom I've spent thousands of dollars over the years, I'll have to take advantage. Like I said above, if he can get together a really good deal on .224 (frangible) and/or .308 bullets, I'd love to get in on it.
  24. I have some Sinterfire .30 cal frangibles. I loaded a handful and ran them through a Mini-30 with no problems. I didn't crimp them, neck-tension only. I think the compression of crimping probably could crack them, but not simply rough handling. Absolutely. Not in the 9mm, though. I'm stocked on them now. For the right price, I'd be interested in some .30 cal bullets in the 90gr to 150gr range. Preferably frangible for steel targets, but I'd take FMJ, too. Also some frangibles in .224, 55 to 77 gr. -snark removed-
