  1. As you found out, apparently, tubes that do not use the standard barrel nut should come with their own proprietary nut.
  2. All the more reason that I (almost) never sell a gun. Last one I sold, I debated with myself for literally years and finally listed it on this site. Got a good deal on a partial trade. That's one of only two sells that I do not regret. I may give guns away to family or friends, but as a general rule, I do not sell. Will
  3. I've tried the .32 Longs. The cases swell terribly. It's not a good fit. Factory ammo isn't terribly uncommon, so I just use that. It isn't something I shoot very often anyway. Have no experience handloading them, but I intend to try soon. Will
  4. Nope. It's just north of the Baker-Peter's Jazz Club. I always thought they should have switched the order of the names.

    Flash Mobs

Some have already been violent. They're not all just "flash robs". I remember hearing about this when it happened. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/report-black-mobs-attack-white-patrons-outside-wis-state-fair/#
  6. I was going to stop at CFA today for lunch, but I have a natural aversion to long lines. I'll try again later this evening. If not, I'll make up for it in the days to come, for sure. Will
  7. You do not want to be caught hunting in the Smokies, for sure. Admiral Jedi, you may want to try to find someone with a large tract of private land. You can do what you want then, as long as you follow game laws. Will
  8. Well, I was carrying (before I took off my pants for the night.... What? TMI?) a Cold Steel Pro Lite. Been carrying it going on 8 or 10 years. Stays sharp, is very strong and tough and opens in a flash. I've been thinking recently about switching to something else. I've had this one so long I'm attached to it. If I lost it, I may be upset. Maybe go to a smallish fixed blade. Not sure yet.
  9. KUB recently installed a transmitter type meter on ours. Poor meter readers couldn't figure out how to unlock the combination padlock on the gate to get into the yard even though they have the combo. I was glad to have it. I don't like strangers in my yard. One guy missed the meter and was wandering around the backyard. I nearly pulled on him because he startled me. I was in my basement and saw a strange man pass by my basement door. Transmitting meter = no meter readers in the yard. I say Will Edit: Next house will be off the grid completely.
  10. What he said. Plus, while open carry is legal in TN, hence legal on the TN side of the Smokies, not all Parkies will be aware of the law and may call LE on you (while wetting their pants) if they spot a gun. Especially if they're seasonal. LE will know the law, but to avoid hassle, I'd just keep it concealed Also remember that NC law applies while on the NC side of the park and TN law applies on the TN side. So when you cross Newfound Gap, the law changes. I am not very familiar with NC law. One more thing... please, PLEASE. For the love of all that is Holy. Do NOT stop in the middle of the road to see a bear. If you just HAVE to see a bear that is stopping traffic, find a place to pull out of the road. THEN go join the herd of tourists that are snapping pictures. The residents of Sevier Co and other Park employees will thank you. Have a good trip, and congratulations! Will
  11. Apparently so. I got them strictly for plinking and training purposes, which is what I think they're meant for. Especially on steel targets. They eliminate dangerous splatter. I watched a video of someone running some Sinterfire (same bullets as the Remington, maybe?) rounds through an MP5 at a steel target at near contact distance. They just turn to dust when they hit. For defense, I'll stick with JHP. But I won't need thousands of them. I hope not, anyway. Edit: I couldn't find the MP5 video, but here is a pistol shooting at steel with sintered metal bullets.
  12. Yeah, we're good. Sorry for the snarkiness in the last post. My point was the the Midway deal was the best I've seen. $40/k is better than $80/k. I got an awesome deal on Tula primers from David's table at the last show that I went to. He has good prices. But when I find a screaming deal from Midway, with whom I've spent thousands of dollars over the years, I'll have to take advantage. Like I said above, if he can get together a really good deal on .224 (frangible) and/or .308 bullets, I'd love to get in on it.
  13. I have some Sinterfire .30 cal frangibles. I loaded a handful and ran them through a Mini-30 with no problems. I didn't crimp them, neck-tension only. I think the compression of crimping probably could crack them, but not simply rough handling. Absolutely. Not in the 9mm, though. I'm stocked on them now. For the right price, I'd be interested in some .30 cal bullets in the 90gr to 150gr range. Preferably frangible for steel targets, but I'd take FMJ, too. Also some frangibles in .224, 55 to 77 gr. -snark removed-
  14. I will soon. I just ordered a bunch of them.
  15. Well, I probably should have linked to the specific bullets that are on sale instead of the search results. $20/500 = $40/1000 Which is an unusually good deal for Midway. I bought 2000 for $99 shipped. $80/1000 is a great regular price, though. Whatever. Just thought I'd pass it along.
  16. Never mind the group order. Good deal on these bullets, though. http://www.midwayusa...serSearchQuery= Will
  17. You can buy .30 Tok bullets if you aren't a tinkerer and don't have a bunch of pulled bullets laying around. Good ones, too. I bet the expansion from these would be pretty dramatic from a BLK. http://www.midwayusa...mensionid=6262
  18. Yup. Agreed. I hope he actually has changed his stance. Particularly on things like guns and gov-controlled health care. We'll see, I guess.
  19. That will not happen until we restrict who can vote to only the producers and exclude the parasites. "If only people would vote their principles/conscience then we could get a good candidate/Ron Paul/etc." Blah, blah, blah. I hear it every 4 years. The problem is that 75% or more don't know what the F they're voting for or against in the first place. They know that Dem-icans promise them freebies and Republi-crats promise them lower taxes. I love most of Ron Paul's policies. I'll accept his foreign policy in order to have his domestic policy. But listen to me. HE IS NOT GOING TO BE ELECTED. A vote for RP is a vote taken from Romney, for the most part. I'm not happy that Romney is the Republican candidate. I believe that, at best, he will SLOW DOWN government overgrowth, rather than completely reverse BO's policies. And the policies of the last century that have led us to where we are. At this point I will take a slow-down so that I may prepare myself and my family for whatever is to become of this country in the next few years. Keeping BO in office will keep us on the fast-track to ruin. I don't think it will take him another four years to completely ruin us. I won't hold a grudge against anyone who votes Libertarian in the the general election. I am libertarian. But I will hold my nose and vote for Romney in order to get this marxist out of the white house. Incrementalism. It's how they work and how we have to work. Romney first. Then someone more conservative. Then someone slightly libertarian. Then full-fledged freedom-loving Constitutionalist. That is, if the whole shebang doesn't swirl down the crapper first. The biggest mistake the left made? Obama, a hard-core leftist with a hard-core agenda and not afraid to implement it. With a more "moderate", squishy, wishy-washy prez (think McCain), we'd still be on the wrong track, but much slower. But there wouldn't be the backlash that there has been. If there is one bright side to his "presidency", it is the backlash that it brought. Is it enough backlash to save us? That is yet to be seen. We'll have a clue in November. I'm rambling. Sorry about that. There isn't much continuity in the above. It's past my bedtime. Will P.S. The above wasn't directed at you, Plank. Just random thoughts.
  20. I agree. I've had many misfires, but never a hangfire. Not to say that it can't happen, but I believe that 30 second rule is left over from cordite or even black powder days. When hangfires actually did happen. I have fired some really old .303 British loaded with actual cordite. I wouldn't call it hangfires, but it seemed like all rounds suffered from slow ignition. There was a noticeable lag between striker fall and firing. With modern ammunition, I train to clear the bad round and shoot again.
  21. I'm visualizing someone trying to hold a pistol like a rifle, with strong hand on the grip and the other resting under the barrel like it's a rifle stock. Then one finger gets extended a bit too far.... I don't know if that's what this guy was doing, but I've seen some people do some pretty silly things when they don't know any better.
  22. Ok, so Craigslist is definitely out. I hadn't considered going to any of the "WE BUY GOLD" places. I just guessed that they would offer maybe half value. I'll try that jewelry store (can't remember the name right now) that says they'll buy gold. The one in the same shopping center as Barnes and Noble. Thanks guys, Will
  23. I've thought about posting it in the general classifieds here, and I still may, but... I have a couple US minted gold coins. Nothing collectible, just worth the gold value AFAIK. I hate to sell them, but I need a little capital. The local coin shop buys for about 90% of spot price and I'd like to get a little closer to spot than that. I'm not sure I want to go the Craigslist route. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Will
  24. Yup. Hope so. He quit before the police arrived, didn't he? I guess he wasn't really looking for a shootout with anyone.
  25. Yes and yes. I don't know if it would have been obvious in a dark theater, but I do recognize body armor. I have several LE friends and it's quite obvious when they're wearing it. Only thing you CAN do. Shoot until they stop. if body shots don't stop them go for the head. I may get shot, but I'll get shot while I'm shooting. Steel ammo may be a good idea, but don't tell anybody.
