Bwa ha ha! But which one is a cunning linguist?

6.5 Grendel. I haven't gotten to play with it enough to get the cast loads working right, but I know it can be done. There is a fellow up in the Johnson City area who has gotten some cast loads working through his AR. It's starting to come back to me now. I did cast some .264 bullets with a Saeco mold. This one. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/109015/saeco-2-cavity-bullet-mold-264-65mm-264-diameter-140-grain-spitzer-point-gas-check Sized to .266", though I don't remember what the cast diameter was. It may not have been any larger than that since that bullet is a "bore-rider". I've never dealt with those before. Only loaded some test rounds. They were a failure. Too fast a powder with too heavy a bullet. And there was too much leading. And probably several other problems. After that, I got busy with work and never got back to working on it. I really need to. That was the most expensive mold I've ever bought. Will

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - One-day SI Course in Knoxville
Clod Stomper replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Training Discussions
I have a couple questions: First, will the class be appropriate for a woman who is approximately 7 months pregnant? I have been planning to take a trip to NV to go to Front Sight. Already have the classes paid for and everything, but it looks like we're not going to be able to make it before she has the baby. Second, is it allowable for a second person (me) to be there without participating in the class. There are a couple reasons. One, to keep her mags loaded. I want her to concentrate on learning to shoot better rather than on how much her fingers are hurting from loading mags. Two, to keep her mags loaded because I want her handling ammo as little as possible due to potential lead exposure. If that's not acceptable, I may be able to pay for both of us just so I can be there. Thanks, Will -
He he. Well, I would, but it's bolted too tightly to my bench Seriously, I'll probably fire it up again soon. When I cast some .264 and .30 cal boolits. According to my feeble memory, I size and lube my rifle bullets. Tumble my handgun bullets. Sheesh. I looked at my handloading log the other day and it had been just over a YEAR since I have even loaded a single round. I'm pathetic. Have loaded a few since then, though. Will

120 grain range bullets are pretty much the standard. Though you shouldn't have a problem with pretty much any standard bullet weight. The 120's will be be fine with that twist. By length, I assume you mean barrel length. Plenty of folks use a longer barrel to wring every last bit of velocity out of the Grendel. It depends on what you're going to use it for. If you want to hunt, 24" may be a bit heavy, depending on the profile. But if you're main interest is shooting paper, especially at longer ranges, a 24" barrel is well-suited. Personally, while most of my shooting is at paper (never from a bench though), I have an 18" barrel. When I get back to hunting, I'll want the lighter barrel. I originally bought a 28" barrel a few years ago when nothing else could be had (post-election panic) and cut it down to 18". I think I only lost about 100 fps velocity. Well worth it to me for a much handier barrel length. I built my wife an 18" and my brother a 16". Are you fireforming cases, or buying factory? Just curious. When I got into the Grendel, fireforming was the only way to get cases in a reasonable amount of time. Now brass is (or was) easily available. Have you been over on the Grendel forum? Plenty of good info and good people over there. http://www.65grendel.com/forum/ While I'm not the all-time Grendel expert, I'm certainly a Grendel Nut. So I'm happy to discuss all you want. Will

This ^^^^^ Tumble lubing is the way to go. I have a Lyman Lubrisizer, but I haven't used it in a long time (of course, I also have cast much lately). I've only used Lee Liquid Alox, but I bet Caster or Dolomite might have a homemade recipe. Will

I bought one of these recently. http://www.ebay.com/itm/300AAC-Blackout-7-62x40-Wilson-Tac-CTS-Case-Trimmer/271065682501?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=017&category=71114&cmd=ViewItem I haven't used it yet. I don't have my dies. It's set for 7.62x40 right now, but it can be used for the .300 AAC. It indexes off of the shoulder of the case, so if your case headspace is correct, it will trim to the right length.

I've seen Fels-Naptha bar soap at several Krogers around here. Maybe even at Walmart, but I'm not sure about that. I've used tube toothpaste that was at least 15 years old. It gets harder to squeeze out of the tube, but still works fine. Will

Interesting. I assume your store carries the book? Is the author local? I have heard of it before, but haven't read it. You work just a stone's throw from where I live (not literally, but close). Will

Anyone here own an Argentine Mauser?

If anyone is needing brass and doesn't want to form it. Here you go. http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/12652 -
Update: Took my proof of insurance to Alcoa PD today. No charge for the citation. Cool. I also spoke to a shift supervisor about the duty to inform. He told me the same thing that the first officer did. Since I wasn't on the side of Alcoa Highway, I was politely insistent enough that he said he would look into it further. So just FYI, until Alcoa PD is up to speed, it may be expedient to show your HCP if pulled over in Alcoa. I will, as a courtesy, if it's in view or on my person. For now. Hornett22, I don't even know what to say.... that's just outrageous. Ok, I have read the TCA and I don't see how it can be construed as saying that I have to tell an officer I'm carrying. BUT, for those of you who are more familiar with the wording and/or are lawyers, is there ANYTHING in the law that can POSSIBLY be misconstrued that way? Just curious. Will

Yes, see above. Eat right (REALLY right, not Lean Cuisine). Wash your hands. Keep your hands out of your face when you're out in public. And just in case, go see your PCP and get a scrip for Tamiflu. Because if you come down with the flu, it will be on a weekend when Dr. offices are closed and your only option will be the ER. I've never had a flu shot. I've had the flu maybe 3 or 4 times in my life, including early childhood. I'll sometimes come down with something that feels flu-like, but not nearly as severe. Someone above described it well. You'll feel like you're dying for several days. Unless you have Tamiflu. That stuff is a miracle drug. Since I've been eating better (whole foods, avoid sugar and grains), I haven't been sick except for what must have been food poisoning a few months ago. That was awful. No colds or flu for a couple years, knock on wood. Will

Beartooth Bullets casts LBT designed bullets. LBT was the name that popped into my head when you said wide flat nose. I've never ordered from them nor cast LBT bullets, though I did lust after their molds back when I was casting regularly. http://beartoothbullets.com/bulletselect/index.htm

Supercavitating Underwater Bullets - AMAZING!!!
Clod Stomper replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Interesting. I wonder if it works sort of like a torpedo. I think I remember reading somewhere that they expel an air bubble out of the nose so that they aren't pushing through water. Kind of like keeping a layer of air over the nose as it cuts through the water. Just something I read a long time ago. I hope someone else will explain better. -
Don't know what kind of rifle it was, but I think I would have rather used that crossbow to take out the guy carrying it rather than a crude pistol. But, of course, firearms are ALWAYS more deadly than bows and arrows.

I do seem to be more easily entertained than most. Gotta go watch some potatoes boil...

I looked, but apparently no one has commented on the show yet. It's on NBC right now. Second episode. Background is, it's set 15 years in the future after all electrical items have ceased to function. Has flashbacks to present time occasionally. SPOILER ALERT............ So far, it's reasonably entertaining. I have some problems with the premise, though. -It's supposedly 15 years from now (or thereabouts). The most popular rifle in the US right now is the AR-style rifle. But apparently 15 years from now, most of what is left are Civil War era weapons. -Militia (characterized as the bad guys/new government) have sprung up and are terrorizing the citizens. As if there aren't enough good guys with guns to prevent that sort of douchebaggery. -Firearms are illegal for anyone except loyal militia. See last point. -I REALLY have a problem with them calling the tyrannical government soldiers "militia". Militia, by definition, are citizen soldiers. Hardly the type to suppress the populace. I'll keep watching for now. I'm surprised I didn't see anyone else post about the new show. I apologize if someone did and I missed it. Will

Anyone here own an Argentine Mauser?
Clod Stomper replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I have a "sporterized" '91 Argy carbine. They are nice light handy little rifles. I don't shoot mine anymore. I'm just too paranoid. Haven't had any issues, but they do not have the safety features of the '98 Mausers like the safety lug and the gas "escape port". So if the lugs let go, it's a bad day. I knew a fellow who had a modern bolt rifle blow up on him. Nearly killed him. Sent the bolt through his face. But I'm digressing... I have only shot underpowered loads in mine. I made my brass from .30-06 cases. Unlike Jonnin, some of my cases only lasted a few loads before the necks cracked. May have been a different brand of brass. I think that if I had re-annealed them, they wouldn't have cracked. I don't intend to discourage you from shooting it or hunting with it, just remember that it's probably 100+ years old. As stated, making cases is tedious. So if you can get some factory rounds, that's probably the best way to go. Will -
You really can't argue with math.

Carrying in Florida a crime, even with a CCL??
Clod Stomper replied to BravoLima's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
From what I have read on this forum, the officer's job and his commission is a defense to carrying a firearm just the same as my having a HCP is. So then, what is to stop me from making a citizen's arrest? Or calling a federal LE to arrest him and have him present his defense in court? Absurd, right? So it is just as absurd that he could do the same to a citizen. This absurdity needs to end. It really wouldn't be that complicated to change. Going through the law striking this, adding that, blah, blah, legalese can be done in one single bill. Or, as JayC said above simply changing the word "defense" to "exception" would work. If one want to really make it complicated, make the new law contingent on and effective as of the date of the repeal of the old law. This happens all the time. Ultimately, the best solution is Constitutional carry. I don't need a Permit to act as a defense to an act which is a RIGHT. And make no mistake, it is a RIGHT, no matter what state, local or federal law says. Bearing arms is a right in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles as much as it is in Arizona, Vermont and Alaska. Just because a government infringes on a right makes it no less a right. Will -
That's for the illiterates who don't know that a magazine isn't what you glance at in the check-out line at the supermarket. So they add the "clip" for their benefit. I've seen "clip magazine" elsewhere too. It's just a magazine. Congrats on the rifle. A Marlin Model 60 was my first self-loading .22 rifle when I was a wee lad. I like Marlins.

Don't worry about the ejection port cover and forward assist. The cover is nice to have, but rarely necessary. And I only know of ONE situation where I would use the forward assist and if you don't form brass, you won't need it for that reason. I left those parts off the last upper I screwed together. I haven't used the S&W, but I really like the features that Dolomite says it comes with. It's the one I recommend (based on Dolomite's recommendation) to folks who don't want to build their own. As a matter of fact, it would be difficult to build a rifle with those specs for the same price as the S&W. Will

How are alligators different than zombies right now? Wandering around listlessly until they see something to eat.
