1.
I'm trying to pace my bourbon consumption to coincide with the final estimate of electoral votes...
If you're waiting for final count, you're gonna be buzzed for days. Maybe weeks. If you wait for the court rulings, you'll die from liver failure.
2. Oh, the pessimism. It's still dead even.
3.
When my father-in-law was visiting a few weeks ago, He happened to see my small stock pile of .22 shells. I think he was mildly concerned until I told him my wife and I go to the range and go though a minimal of 500 a trip. A large number of .22 shells is nothing. Found on the web. related to the riots, pretty sure it is a joke but funny anyways.
Yep, it's either a joke or a very poorly edited paper published on Tueday, Noverber 6. Wait. Are there still clothing manufacturers in the US?
4. I looked, but saw no sign when I voted early at the South Knox location. Don't know about the regular voting place. It's a community center, so it's probably posted. Don't remember.
5. Mississippi? <sigh> Well, at least you're not from florida. Just kidding. Missisimians....er, I mean.. Mississippians are ok in my book. Nice to have a new gun owner around here. Hey, can you hook me up with some 'shine? Will
6. It is discouraging to read, even on this forum, that so many are given to the notion that who is president makes so much difference. Granted, with BO it DOES make a difference, because he has no qualms about bypassing congress or the Constitution. But with most presidents it really doesn't, nor should it. What's more important is who we elect to the Senate and House. With enough Tea Party and Constitutionalist members, I believe Romney can be pulled to the right. BO can not, as he has demonstrated multiple times. Economically, Romney knows what the gov needs to do (get out of the way) to get businesses hiring. BO doesn't care. His goal is to bring the US down a few notches. And he has been successful. So when R wins today, I'll improve my outlook about the future. But I harbor no illusions that all is peachy. Tomorrow we are going to have to get started keeping him and our senators and representatives on a short leash and make sure they do what is in the best interest of the country and not in the best interest of their reelection or which cocktail parties they're invited to in DC. Will that happen? It never has in the past, but I really do think that BO has caused such a backlash that we are starting to see more and more paying attention. I just hope it lasts. From that perspective, I'm kind of glad that BO beat McCain in '08. With McCain, we'd still be plodding down the same road we've been on for 100 years. With BO stomping the gas pedal to the floor, it woke up many sleeping passengers. Will
7.
That's MrGrumpy, Sir, to you. Believe me, I'm hoping to eat massive amounts of crow. Raw. - OS
Raw won't be necessary. And I'll even clean and cook it for you! Seriously. I believe the election will be Romney's. Not that I think he's the "savior" or some such nonsense. But at least there will be a small chance of saving our Republic because he can be dragged, kicking and screaming, to the right if we can get enough Tea Party, conservative, libertarian, freedom-loving people in Congress.
8.
It's cheaper at this point to give them an EBT card than to incarcerate them.
Even cheaper to .... no, never mind...
9. Coincidentally, there is a good article at JPFO on Constitutional carry right now. http://jpfo.org/alerts2012/alert20121104.htm
10. To be fair, they didn't really have enough space for the whole word.
11. I agree with the versatility of the 300 BLK (or in my case, the 7.62 Wilson Tactical) over the 5.56. My goal is to have barrels and bolts in ALL except the most absurd rounds for maximum flexibility. As far as 5.56 and 7.62x51 being more available when the fit hits the shan, let's take a ride in the Wayback Machine to November of 2008 and the couple years after. Which rounds could NOT be found nearly anywhere? I remember all too well. Take it off my enemies, you may be saying? I hope to not get into too many firefights, but if I do, I really, REALLY hope it is not with any military units. And the local hooligans and meth-heads may or may not be carrying a common military round. I decided years ago that it would be best to have what I need before TSHTF. And I prefer rounds that offer more versatility and utility than the 5.56. That's why I'm a huge fan of the 6.5 Grendel. And I soon hope to have a barrel or two in 7.62x40 WT and, yes, even in .300 Blackout. As much as I love the Grendel and its longer range, I also like the cheaper .30 cal bullets and the ability to make cases from cheap 5.56. Am I saying I won't have a rifle in 5.56? Of course not. As a matter of fact, that's what I keep beside my bed at night. Remember, maximum flexibility. As a local radio personality says, "That's my opinion. Feel free to make it yours." Will Edit: He he... Just noticed who posted just before me. No offense meant to Hi Point Hooligan when I mentioned hooligans.
12. I've always just used hot, soapy water followed by hot clean water. And then re-oil the bore. If you can't get to it right away, good ol' WD-40 does a good job of keeping the bore from rusting until you can clean it. Don't wait weeks, but a few days will be fine. Soak it well. Will
13. I have said to a couple of my closest friends something very similar. Now I'll say it in a public forum. I won't predict what is stated in the article, but I will not be surprised if it comes to pass. He is just that narcissistic.
14. Wasn't there a M1 Carbine conversion in .45 Win Mag or some such? 10mm shouldn't be much problem. Or even better, .400 Corbon. Will Edit: Yes, there must have been. Here's a barrel. http://www.ebay.com/itm/M1-Carbine-45-Winchester-Magnum-Conversion-Barrel-/130677954144
15. When I was in my late teens/early 20's, I really wanted to develop a .40 or .41 caliber straight-walled round based on a necked-up .30-30. Sort of a scaled down .444 Marlin or .45-70. All it would require is a barrel change for a Marlin 336, I think. Then, of course, there is the cartridge, die and load development. I think it would be a flatter shooting round with similar "knock-down" to the .444 or .45-70. Of course, now that I'm a bit more experienced, I prefer bottleneck rounds for rifles. But if someone with the resources were to take that idea and run with it, I'd be really interested in the results. Will
16. I got mine years ago. A Cold Steel Trailmaster Carbon V. And no, it's not my every day carry. Folders? I've been through a few. I've put my Cold Steel Pro Lite through its paces over the last 10 or so years. Aside from some finish wear, it's as solid as the day I got it. I'm thinking about moving to something else, but haven't decided what can replace it yet. And yes, it is my EDC.
17. Interesting. I'd like to see Tennessee pass a similar law.
18. Expect for that Snookie chick. Man, she is the HOTNESS. Am I right?..... Anybody?........
19. I'm going to second the 6.5 Grendel. In an AR-style rifle, you can use an adjustable gas block (if it has one or you install one) to help tame felt recoil. The 6.5 or the 6.8 or .300 Blackout will be similar in the AR. The advantage to the 6.5 is a longer effective range if you ever decide to try longer range shooting. If you are really staying short range, I don't recommend any of the larger centerfire rounds (.243, 260, etc.) in a bolt action or single shot. While the recoil may be manageable, it will still be worse than an AR. And the muzzle blast will be significantly worse. .30-30 is a classic, but again, recoil will be heavier. 6.5/6.8/300 will beat the ballistics after a short distance, too. Due to poor ballistic coefficient of the .30-30 and better BC of the others (Especially the 6.5. Can you tell I'm biased toward the 6.5 Grendel?) I built my 5', 100 pound wife a lightweight AR in 6.5 G. Recoil is very mild even in the light rifle. And the muzzle blast is less daunting when you are practicing and less damaging when hunting. She hasn't hunted with it yet, unfortunately. Good luck, Will
20. I just hope you're right. I have no suggestions other than the standard ones. Vote for the right people, educate others, etc. It appears to be working in some places, locally. My point was that the new laws can be ignored as easily as the "old" ones (like the Constitution). Those thugs going door to door in NO had to know that what they were doing was unConstitutional but they did it anyway. I believe that there will always be that element that just doesn't care what the rules are as long as they are in charge. Case in point, observe the actions of the current administration. I would rather that you be correct and I be wrong. I just don't have that confidence.
21. It wasn't legal when it happened the first time. Where is the evidence that the new laws that were passed in response to this won't be ignored?
22. A friend of mine killed one once. Had a scope mounted on top of an AR carry rail. He didn't compensate for the bore line being so far below the sight line and shot 2 or 3 rounds through it. So you're not the only one.
23. USFS? TDF?
24. Wow. Which one was this. I want to make sure that I never take my vehicle there for a tire change. Or anything else.
25. Looks just like a Cold Steel Tanto. I have no idea who copied whom. I don't carry a knife with a personal story, but I have several. I wouldn't carry any of them on a regular basis because I wouldn't want to lose them. I have an old Boy Scout fixed blade that my Papaw found in the hills while he was hunting. He gave it to me when I was really young. I don't even remember him giving it to me. That's how little I was. He's been gone since I was 15 ( almost 24 years now. Wow). I have a Clod Steel Trailmaster that my Mother and Daddy bought me when I was in my teens. I lusted after that blade for a long time before they bought it for me. I probably have a few others that have sentimental value, but those are the first that pop in my head. I have a Cold Steel Pro Lite that I have carried for about 8 to 10 years now. After that much time, things tend to become sentimental to me, so it's about time to retire it and find something else before I lose it.
