  1. Glad you mentioned that. I was just fixin' to ask. I have some pistol bullets that I accidentally cast waaay too soft. Does the local Harbor Freight carry the powder? I may need to run up there tomorrow.
  2. I carry a .45. Because a 9mm will kill your body, but a .45 kills your SOUL.
  3. Perhaps. Unless it USED to be a house cat and then went all Lord of the Flies. I wanted to distinguish between kitty cats and Black Panthers. :)
  4. Yes. Feral house cats are some of the most efficient predators. Seriously. Though, I admit, I've never heard of one attacking a human.
  5. I'll admit to it.     Before Tennessee had a permit system, I carried regularly.  I hurt no one and broke no other laws and no one was the wiser.  After TN instituted a permit system, circa 1993-'94, it was (iirc) a PITA to conform (honestly, I don't remember the specifics, but maybe someone can remind me) that I still didn't get a permit.  Around '97-'98, TN changed the law again and made it much easier to get a permit.  So, in 1998, my (future) wife and I took a class (Buford Tune in Nashville.  What a character!) and got our permits.     I still don't believe that I need permission from the state to exercise my right to self-defense, and if the permit law were repealed tomorrow, I would still carry.  And (apart from this post) neither you nor the popo would have any idea.  I would be much more concerned with concealment than I am right now.  Just as I was before 1998.     I got my permit despite any worries about being on a "list".  Like someone said in a different thread, if I'm not on a list already, somebody's not doing their job.
  6. Well, since I can't follow it on TV, I'll give your blog a peek from time to time.
  7. What a shame. Edit: still funny though. Until the end.
  8. I wish I had bought a couple of the Finnish Mosins when I had my C&R and they could still be found. But alas...
  9. Yeesh. I always wear glasses, but I think I'm gonna start wearing a face shield now.
  10. I guess I'm lucky. Well, I KNOW I am. My wife is at least as cautious as I am about strangers. Her driving is a whole different matter.
  11.   That seems odd.  We've sold pine stands to logging companies.  About 10 years or so ago, whenever the pine beetle infestation was rampant, my family had a logging company come and log the place.  Just the pines, though.  That was more than a hundred, though.  Several hundred.   Thanks for the number.  I'll have him come take a look.
  12. Oh well.  Looks like it's going to be firewood.  Biggest thing is getting it down without hitting the house.  I won't be giving away the firewood, though, unless it's to a friend.  I'll burn it myself.  Or sell it.   Thanks,   Will
  13. Thanks everyone.     What I had in mind was getting an idea of its value from a lumber company.  THEN, try to get the tree service to cut the price by what THEY could sell the log for.  But it sounds like they may not be able to get that much.  Oh well.     I'll get a tree service out here to give me an estimate.  Even if I could get them to take off one or two big limbs, I could drop it myself without destroying the house or outbuilding.     Thanks,   Will
  14. Does anyone know a lumber company in or around Knoxville who mills their own lumber?  Here's my situation...   Right next to the house, a huge oak died this year.  It's been dropping widowmakers already.  Probably because it's been so wet and one large limb was already dead.  I can't afford what it would cost for a professional to take it down right now.  BUT it has a straight trunk for about 30 feet with only one major flaw.  It should have some good boards.  SO, I'm going to try to find out approximately what the trunk itself would be worth and negotiate with a tree company to offset the cost of taking it down.     Does that sound like a good idea?   I would fell it myself, but there is only one way it can fall and there is one huge limb that would do some serious damage to the house.   I did a search, but I can't tell which, if any, lumber companies mill lumber and could give me an approximate value.   Thanks for any suggestions   Will
  15. I have used Duracoat quite a bit. It works really well. My only complaint is that it adds thickness so it can't really be used on parts that have to remain the same dimension. I haven't yet tried Cerakote, but I want to. I understand that it's a bit more "involved" process. FYI, I think Predator Custom switched from Duracoat to Cerakote a couple years ago.
  16. Just a precaution about light loads.  They can be more dangerous than overcharging.  It depends on the powder.  Some powders can be susceptible to "detonation" rather than ignition if the primer lights the whole charge at once.     It's rare, but it supposedly has happened.     So, just as I wouldn't go over the maximum published charge, I will not go under the minimum charge either.
  17. Don't know about carriers, but as far as phones, my dad has had a Motorola flip phone for many years and it's still going.  It's in very rough shape, but still works.  His is through US Cellular.  I have a similar prepaid Tracfone.  I bet you can get one through most carriers.
  18. You don't have to commit a crime to be arrested.  That's one of the problems.  I wonder if we'll see an increase in arrests in some of the more statist locales simply to add more individuals to that database.     And we won't have to worry about insurance companies asking for it. In a few years, they'll be out of business, the IRS will be in charge of our health care and they won't have to request the info, it will be right there in the database for the checking.
  19. They have pretty much said that the whole purpose is to put the info into a national database. I agree. After conviction, fine. Or if DNA is pertinent to the case and is court-ordered. Otherwise this is just more 1984.
  20. Didn't see this posted elsewhere. http://www.wbir.com/news/article/276662/16/Supreme-Court-OKs-DNA-swab-in-serious-arrests
  21. Wait. They can carry firearms in public in the Phillipines? Will wonders never cease to amaze me.
  22. Caster said it. I (usually) will not shoot anyone else's handloads. The only exception being the 2 or 3 people I trust. I almost exclusively shoot my own handloads. Second choice is factory. Third is trusted handloads. Will
  23. My best experience with riding mowers has been with Cub Cadet and John Deere. I'm using a Husqvarna right now any it sucks on hills. No traction or stability. Would be fine on level ground, but if you have significant slope, don't get a Husky.
  24. I think I found your problem. :) J/K. Sometimes a couple can help focus.
  25. Shipping costs really suck everywhere I've shopped in the last few years. Midway has such good customer service, I'll ignore some extra shipping costs. Seriously, I doubt ANY corporation (gun-related or not) could match their level of customer service. Brownell's is close, but still second. No, I'm not an employee of Midway. Just a very satisfied customer.
