Full length sizing die question
Clod Stomper replied to Sidinman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
You can also get lanolin at a baby store like Babies-r-us, but it isn't cheap. -
Don't know. I hate talking to people. So a smartphone is a blessing for me. I'd rather play games and surf the 'net than talk.

Full length sizing die question
Clod Stomper replied to Sidinman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Gotcha. I've just always had better luck when dealing with tight things (pins, stuck cases, etc.) by pressing rather than striking. Perhaps use Kroil and then press it out the way Jonnin mentioned above. It will probably destroy the decapping pin, but that's better than a whole new die. -
Full length sizing die question
Clod Stomper replied to Sidinman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Try the stuck case remover first. FIRST, spray some Kroil into the case and the die. If you don't have any, use WD-40 or a good penetrating oil. Now, while that is soaking, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy: - A 1/4"x20 tap and whatever drill bit is the correct size for that. - Several 1/4" fender washers. The hole is 1/4" and the washer is probably 1 1/4"-1 1/2". - A 1/4" hex head bolt. Get a couple different lengths. Maybe 1", 1and a quarter, 1 and a half. Make sure you have the tools to turn the drill, tap and bolt. Drill a hole through the primer pocket into the case. Then tap it with the 1/4" tap. Put the die into the press upside-down. Thread it in from the bottom with the case head up. Leave plenty of space between the top of the case head the the top of the press, meaning that you only want to turn it 2 or 3 threads into the press. Put 2 or 3 or 4 fender washers on top of the press over the die. Put one of the 1/4" bolts through the washers and thread it into the case head. Make sure that the bolt head is against the washers when is is JUST threaded through the case head. You may need to use a shorter bolt, more washers or turn the die down away from the washers some. Use your wrench to turn the bolt into the case. It should pull the case out of the die. I've only used this method twice, but it has worked perfectly both times. Good luck, Will -
I think the Russians still do. Or at least they did in the '90s from what I've read. I have one if these in the BOB. Or GHB. Whatever you want to call it. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/187643/cold-steel-special-forces-shovel-steel-blade-hardwood-handle

"Naked and Afraid" was more interesting.

Well, George Zimmerman's worked pretty well for him. :hiding:

I've been saying the same thing for years. We don't allow natural selection to work anymore. It's why we have a population filled with mindless morons. There is a major piece in the Knox News Sentinel this morning about Park Rangers and the SARs they do in the Smokies (where I used to work). As an aside, the article prominently features a good friend of mine, Chuck. Anyway, having seen firsthand the situations people put themselves in and then EXPECT someone else to come and get them out of it, I came to the conclusion that what SHOULD happen, but won't, is that a few of them should be left to suffer the consequences of their actions. Perhaps that would send a message to future idiots that if you do something stupid in the woods, you may just die from it. Of course, that will never happen. For one thing, the Rangers enjoy doing what they do. And they are very good at it. Having known quite a few Rangers, I can say that they are the most professional and competent LEOs that I have encountered. I just wish that more time, resources and money were used protecting people from the idiots rather than protecting the idiots from themselves. Sorry for the rambling rant. To try to stay on topic, I'll most likely watch the Canyon crossing. Just in case he falls. :) Will

So you're saying there will be sequels? Or this is the first of a series?

I have left powder in mine for months. I always label the dispenser with the type of powder in it. The worst that has happened is the clear plastic gets discolored. After reading what happened to Dolomite's dispenser, I'll most likely stop leaving powder in it.

I had a coupon, so I picked up one of these at Kroger. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0062QJLSI/ It's marketed as a replacement for charcoal in your grill. It burns for 35 to 45 minutes. Hot enough to grill burgers over. If I fashion a lid to extinguish it, it may be reusable. Don't know yet, haven't tried it. As an emergency firestarter, it should get really wet wood going in a few minutes. Or if one were to want to have a fire without smoke, this might be a good option. I'm going to put one in my BOB. Definitely don't buy them from Amazon. Kroger's regular price is about half that. And I used a $2 off coupon. Will

Powder coating the easy way
Clod Stomper replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Glad you mentioned that. I was just fixin' to ask. I have some pistol bullets that I accidentally cast waaay too soft. Does the local Harbor Freight carry the powder? I may need to run up there tomorrow. -
I carry a <blank> because <blank> - Lets keep em funny!

I carry a .45. Because a 9mm will kill your body, but a .45 kills your SOUL. -
carrying without a permit
Clod Stomper replied to Ron Padilla's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'll admit to it. Before Tennessee had a permit system, I carried regularly. I hurt no one and broke no other laws and no one was the wiser. After TN instituted a permit system, circa 1993-'94, it was (iirc) a PITA to conform (honestly, I don't remember the specifics, but maybe someone can remind me) that I still didn't get a permit. Around '97-'98, TN changed the law again and made it much easier to get a permit. So, in 1998, my (future) wife and I took a class (Buford Tune in Nashville. What a character!) and got our permits. I still don't believe that I need permission from the state to exercise my right to self-defense, and if the permit law were repealed tomorrow, I would still carry. And (apart from this post) neither you nor the popo would have any idea. I would be much more concerned with concealment than I am right now. Just as I was before 1998. I got my permit despite any worries about being on a "list". Like someone said in a different thread, if I'm not on a list already, somebody's not doing their job. -
Zimmerman trial coverage, by gun owner, for gun owners
Clod Stomper replied to a topic in General Chat
Well, since I can't follow it on TV, I'll give your blog a peek from time to time. -
What a shame. Edit: still funny though. Until the end.

Mosins at Gander Mountain Knoxville
Clod Stomper replied to i1afli's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I wish I had bought a couple of the Finnish Mosins when I had my C&R and they could still be found. But alas... -
Yeesh. I always wear glasses, but I think I'm gonna start wearing a face shield now.

I guess I'm lucky. Well, I KNOW I am. My wife is at least as cautious as I am about strangers. Her driving is a whole different matter.

That seems odd. We've sold pine stands to logging companies. About 10 years or so ago, whenever the pine beetle infestation was rampant, my family had a logging company come and log the place. Just the pines, though. That was more than a hundred, though. Several hundred. Thanks for the number. I'll have him come take a look.

Oh well. Looks like it's going to be firewood. Biggest thing is getting it down without hitting the house. I won't be giving away the firewood, though, unless it's to a friend. I'll burn it myself. Or sell it. Thanks, Will
