  1. I don't ship stuff very much, but the few times I have lately, it has been pretty steep. I think shipping has gone up due to the economy and fuel prices. I don't doubt Midway's fairness in their shipping prices. They did give me a break recently, though. I made an order online. A couple hours later (literally), I thought of something else (.300 BLK dies) and checked to see if it was on stock. They were, so I called to see if I could add them to my order. They had already pulled my order. But he offered to ship me the dies at half the shipping cost since they were pretty scarce at the time. I took him up on that. The more business I do with Midway, the better I like them. I doubt that any company can exceed their level of customer service. Brownell's is close, but based on my experience, Midway has the best CS of any company (gun-related or not) I've encountered. Will
  2. I second this. A No4Mk1 or Mk2. I've said before that if I had to have a bolt action for a battle rifle, a SMLE No 4 is what I'd want. Great sights, smooth action, good accuracy, good capacity, excellent ballistics. It does have a detachable mag, but it was made to be loaded by clips. Good to keep an extra mag handy anyway, in case the first one gets damaged. That said, I would not limit myself to a bolt action based on possible future restrictions. On the contrary, I would buy a self-loader just in case of future restrictions.
  3. Like Mark A said, I'd bet it's the trigger. My very first AR would do the same thing. No matter how gently I pressed the trigger, it would jerk at the let-off. Combo of a stiff pull and then a sharp release, I guess. None others have done that for me. A better trigger, Dolomite's trigger kit or even the "15 Minute Ar-15 Trigger Job" will probably help.
  4. Yep. In '98, '99 and '00, I was commuting from Knox to the Smokies. Fuel price wasn't really an issue at that time. Remember, gas was 1.87 when BO took office in '09. Of course there have often been these mini-"shortages" or panics that sent it higher temporarily, but this $3.00+ BS is relatively recent.
  5. Awesome. I wanted to send my wife to a class last year, but it just didn't work out. She's gonna go to this one.
  6. I remember that. I was in elementary school, I think. I remember we passed John Schneider in the school bus once. Everyone stuck their nose to the window to catch a glimpse of Bo Duke. That was such a horrible movie, though.
  7. It hasn't been THAT long since gas was 1.00/gal. About 13-15 years ago. I was driving an 86 Honda Accord and could fill it up for 12 bucks. And I could get 40 mpg with premium fuel. Now the tiny "Smart" car gets 40 and the Prius gets 50. Wow, technology had really come a long way, hasn't it? <sarcasm> Even better, I remember when a Norinco MAK-90 was about $250 or less. SKS was $80. 1k rounds of 7.62x39 was 80-100 bucks. You could buy a decent used S&W revolver (pre- Clinton sellout) for 300 dollars. Police trade-ins were much less, of course. I don't feel old, but I do hate inflation.
  8. Hamilton Bowen lives in Louisville. At least his shop is there. David Keith owns the farm right across the river from ours in Monroe Co.
  9. D'oh! I missed it. As much as I despise the faddish term "prepper", I would have liked to hear about the subjects presented.
  10. Uh oh. I hope he didn't hurt himself. This got me to thinking. I believe that the .38 Super is semi-rimmed. I wonder if it actually COULD be fired in a .38 Spl. or .357 Mag. Have to compare rim thickness to see if headspace may make it a possibility. If so, it could be really dangerous.
  11. Here's my opinion. A .22 pistol or revolver with at least a 6" barrel and a larger cal rifle. Rifle is for medium size game and self defense. Pistol is for small game. The longer barrel is for a longer sight radius and it won't make your ears ring as bad. Will
  12. Will you be bringing any H110?
  13. I thought that may be the case. But I wasn't sure. Thanks
  14. If you really need some 22 mag, Walmart in Alcoa had some yesterday. Also had some (I think) Tula .380. They seem to have had plenty of .38 Super +p for a while. Seems like a good reason (for me) to look for a pistol chambered in that round.
  15. I'm sure that's the case. Fortunately, I stocked up on most of what I need before '08. I hand load all of my ammo except .22 lr and my carry ammo. I do remember seeing AR lowers showing up at gun shows for 100 bucks or less sometime in 2010. I have several boxes of .22 that have a 2010 date on them (yes, I write the date I purchased it on the box. Don't judge me. ) from Walmart after it started showing back up on the shelves. That's what I'm basing my recollection on. If other shooting commodities were still in short supply, I've been fortunate enough to not be affected.
  16. I don't have any experience with glocktriggers.com. But I replaced my trigger connector with a 3.5 lb connector. I really like it much better now. It is smoother and lighter. Not really crisper, though. I can't remember where I got it. Probably Brownell's or Lone Wolf. Either way, it's only a few bucks. Give it a try before shelling out $150.
  17. I gave up making predictions a good while back. But I do believe this is temporary. The shortage that began in 2008 lasted a couple of years. That's including "evil" guns and parts. We're less than a year from the last election and Newtown, and EBRs are already back to reasonable prices. I believe ammo won't be far behind. Again, I'm not making a prediction. Just saying what I think based in past experience.
  18. Here's another thought... since 9mm Federal ammo is extremely rare, maybe the revolvers chambered for it are cheaper. Were they able to chamber 9mm NATO? It's a stretch, I know...
  19. I think they started out making a conversion cylinder for S&W revolvers. I always wanted one, but waited too long.
  20. How about a Medusa revolver? It shoots 9mm (and .357 and .38 Spl and .380, etc.) http://www.kitsune.addr.com/Firearms/Revolvers/Medusa_Model_47.htm I've never seen one in person, so they may be difficult to find.
  21. Nope. Spend 50 bucks and buy a house in Detroit for a bug-out location.
  22. That is encouraging. Now I'm asking this as a person who has little knowledge of the power grid. What about the computer systems that control the power grid? What if THEY get fried by an EMP or solar flare? Will
  23. They've made it as far as Blount Co here in ETN. I have yet to see any in Knox yet. I suspect that as we move out of this warm cycle, they'll gradually retreat back south. After that particularly cold winter we had ('10-'11 maybe?), I didn't see any in Monroe Co until near the end of summer.
  24. If I had any money, I'd make an offer. I still wish I'd bought one when I had my C&R and they could still be found.
  25. It's between Etowah and Athens. I used to go there occasionally back in my youth. Good times.
