  1. Oops. I misread my own post. It's too early in the morning. The Ninth ruling was in our favor. You're right about the current SCOTUS being pro-2A. At least with Heller and McDonald. I hope that continues with this case. It's a different issue though. This could involve <GASP> totally unregulated firearms. NFA- type weapons even. Don't know about Montana's law, but TN's covers suppressors. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the SC will hear it and rule correctly.
  2. http://www.ammoland.com/2013/08/ninth-circuit-rules-in-firearms-freedom-act-case/#axzz2de3fVxi4 "Plaintiffs in MSSA v. Holder are the Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA), the Second Amendment Foundation, and Gary Marbut, President of MSSA. To set up the legal challenge, Marbut determined to manufacture a youth-model, .22 caliber, bolt-action rifle called the “Montana Buckaroo.” The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms informed Marbut that any such unlicensed manufacture would be illegal under federal law. Despite Marbut’s BATF-prohibited plans to make the Montana Buckaroo, the federal District Court ruled that the plaintiffs lacked “standing” to bring the lawsuit, and dismissed the lawsuit. MSSA appealed this dismissal to the Ninth Circuit. In its long-awaited ruling today, the Ninth Circuit reversed the federal District Court on the standing issue, saying that Marbut has standing to bring the challenge, but held that existing Supreme Court precedent was against plaintiffs on the merits of the lawsuit." The good news may be that the Ninth Circus court seems to get reversed fairly regularly. But I don't trust the current Supreme Court. Will
  3. They've been really bad this year. I've found several more nests than usual. Today I found another nest and did something I've always wanted to try. I parked a running push mower on top of it and let it run for a while. I'll check the results tomorrow. (PSA TO FOLLOW) BTW, it's a good idea to keep Benadryl, or an Epipen if possible, handy. I wasn't allergic to stings until about 9 years ago. Then I got into a nest while I was way back in the woods and had a reaction. A person I was working with had some Benadryl and I took two. I'm convinced it saved my life. Now I take shots and carry an Epipen.
  4. Never heard of that one. Where is it exactly? And are they posted? Doesn't matter though. I'll just carry past the sign.
  5. Except power over people. And that is what it's all about, ultimately.
  6. I wonder if West Town is now posted as well. They're both owned by Simon, I think. When I rarely go to a mall, I've been going to West Town. The scenery is much nicer.
  7. I use a 1/4" punch inserted from the "driver's" side. Push the spring and detent in and capture it with the punch. Then push the punch back through with the pivot pin, holding them tightly together. Works well and I haven't lost a part using this method.
  8. The only time I carry unchambered is if I'm going to be removing and replacing the pistol several times. Like going into and out of posted places or going to work out, etc. If I'm out and about with the little'un, I certainly keep it chambered. I can't hold a baby or push a stroller to cover with one hand and chamber a round with the other.
  9. Just a word of experience. Read several load manuals. Then read some more. Read, read, read. Then find someone who lives near you who is willing to tutor. All .308 cases I have ever seen use large rifle primers. So that is what you need. 00 buck in a 30 cal rifle is a fun idea that I have always meant to try, but haven't yet. What powder are you going to use? I may give that a try myself sometime this week. Good luck, Will
  10. Ouch! Glad it doesn't look like permanent damage. Seriously, thanks for the heads up. I've never loaded black powder cartridges, but never having had any unexpected incidents in in 26 years, I've definitely gotten lax about PPE. This has opened my eyes (which I really want to keep) and I will be wearing safety glasses from now on when I load. I've never heard of a ESD mat, but I will probably be buying one of those, too. I guess one advantage to hand loading in a relatively damp basement is that I don't have to worry too much about static electricity. But still... Thanks, Will
  11. The only part of this post with which I disagree... We are already WAY too crowded.
  12. There was a fellow selling AR500 steel targets at a show last year sometime. A friend and I went in together on a couple. Don't know if he's at every show, though. Probably not.
  13. I don't ship stuff very much, but the few times I have lately, it has been pretty steep. I think shipping has gone up due to the economy and fuel prices. I don't doubt Midway's fairness in their shipping prices. They did give me a break recently, though. I made an order online. A couple hours later (literally), I thought of something else (.300 BLK dies) and checked to see if it was on stock. They were, so I called to see if I could add them to my order. They had already pulled my order. But he offered to ship me the dies at half the shipping cost since they were pretty scarce at the time. I took him up on that. The more business I do with Midway, the better I like them. I doubt that any company can exceed their level of customer service. Brownell's is close, but based on my experience, Midway has the best CS of any company (gun-related or not) I've encountered. Will
  14. I second this. A No4Mk1 or Mk2. I've said before that if I had to have a bolt action for a battle rifle, a SMLE No 4 is what I'd want. Great sights, smooth action, good accuracy, good capacity, excellent ballistics. It does have a detachable mag, but it was made to be loaded by clips. Good to keep an extra mag handy anyway, in case the first one gets damaged. That said, I would not limit myself to a bolt action based on possible future restrictions. On the contrary, I would buy a self-loader just in case of future restrictions.
  15. Like Mark A said, I'd bet it's the trigger. My very first AR would do the same thing. No matter how gently I pressed the trigger, it would jerk at the let-off. Combo of a stiff pull and then a sharp release, I guess. None others have done that for me. A better trigger, Dolomite's trigger kit or even the "15 Minute Ar-15 Trigger Job" will probably help.
  16. Yep. In '98, '99 and '00, I was commuting from Knox to the Smokies. Fuel price wasn't really an issue at that time. Remember, gas was 1.87 when BO took office in '09. Of course there have often been these mini-"shortages" or panics that sent it higher temporarily, but this $3.00+ BS is relatively recent.
  17. Awesome. I wanted to send my wife to a class last year, but it just didn't work out. She's gonna go to this one.
  18. I remember that. I was in elementary school, I think. I remember we passed John Schneider in the school bus once. Everyone stuck their nose to the window to catch a glimpse of Bo Duke. That was such a horrible movie, though.
  19. It hasn't been THAT long since gas was 1.00/gal. About 13-15 years ago. I was driving an 86 Honda Accord and could fill it up for 12 bucks. And I could get 40 mpg with premium fuel. Now the tiny "Smart" car gets 40 and the Prius gets 50. Wow, technology had really come a long way, hasn't it? <sarcasm> Even better, I remember when a Norinco MAK-90 was about $250 or less. SKS was $80. 1k rounds of 7.62x39 was 80-100 bucks. You could buy a decent used S&W revolver (pre- Clinton sellout) for 300 dollars. Police trade-ins were much less, of course. I don't feel old, but I do hate inflation.
  20. Hamilton Bowen lives in Louisville. At least his shop is there. David Keith owns the farm right across the river from ours in Monroe Co.
  21. D'oh! I missed it. As much as I despise the faddish term "prepper", I would have liked to hear about the subjects presented.
  22. Uh oh. I hope he didn't hurt himself. This got me to thinking. I believe that the .38 Super is semi-rimmed. I wonder if it actually COULD be fired in a .38 Spl. or .357 Mag. Have to compare rim thickness to see if headspace may make it a possibility. If so, it could be really dangerous.
  23. Here's my opinion. A .22 pistol or revolver with at least a 6" barrel and a larger cal rifle. Rifle is for medium size game and self defense. Pistol is for small game. The longer barrel is for a longer sight radius and it won't make your ears ring as bad. Will
  24. Will you be bringing any H110?
  25. I thought that may be the case. But I wasn't sure. Thanks
