  1. Don't know about Cerakote, but Duracoat works fine on either. Plus aluminum and plastic. No difference in prep. It just has to be very, very clean.
  2. Just like the drugs crossing our southern border every day, I think the problem ultimately lies with the end buyers. If people would stop buying, just for a while, this crap would cease. When times are good, stock up slowly. Then there is no need to buy during a panic. I haven't bought a factory round in a pretty good while. I don't usually anyway, becaus I prefer to handload. I needed some ammo for a class coming up in October and I was able to scrounge enough brass from random nooks and crannies to load up enough for the class Unlike illicit drugs, ammunition is not ACTUALLY addictive. As much as it may seem so. EDIT: I do agree with Dolomite's post above. I am less likely to shoot as much when supplies are hard to get, even if I have some. I wasn't talking about those of us who already aren't buying. Somebody is though. They could stop this nonsense by not buying anything for a month or less. I have also considered buying one of the better airsoft guns. A pistol and/or a rifle. Have a friend who practices with one inside his home and his skill level is well-maintained.
  3. Yeah, I figure it will be scarce. As most things are right now. The upside to these panics is that they teach patience. I DID find some XBR 8208 (good Grendel powder, btw) a couple years ago before the latest furor. So not all hope is lost if the craziness subsides soon.
  4. I was looking for a case I remember hearing about a few years ago. Haven't found it yet, but I ran across this. http://www.constitution.org/2ll/bardwell/cases1.html The case I was looking for involved someone in, I think, Arizona who had made a machine gun from scratch. He was prosecuted, but the charge was either thrown out or acquitted because the gun had not been involved in interstate commerce. He was convicted of another charge if I recall correctly. I have no interest on getting involved in NFA weapons, but another thread about Missouri and the TN Firearm Freedom Act made me think about that case. I know it was in a different district, but it may possibly be a precedent for suppressors and firearms made in TN being left alone by the feds. Anyway, thought I'd share the link. It was interesting to skim through.
  5. Is anyone familiar with it? I have some .357 Mag cases that need to be filled with some hunting loads. The velocity listed is pretty impressive if it isn't a typo. http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipePrint.aspx?gtypeid=1&weight=170&shellid=28&bulletid=39&bdid=971 Assuming I can find some...
  6. It's almost EXACTLY like that, isn't it. That has been my suspicion for a while now.
  7. Have no idea if they have what you need right now, but here is a list of places I've ordered from over the years. Midway Graf and Sons http://www.grafs.com/ Powder Valley http://powdervalleyinc.com/ Brassman Brass http://store.brassmanbrass.com/ Widener's http://www.wideners.com/ And of course there is David who is a vendor on this forum. You don't want to be ordering powder or primers unless you're going to order a whole lot at a time. So buy from David at the gun shows. I am in Knoxville too and will be happy to assist you if you need it. I started handloading on a Rockchucker when I was 14 years old. I just turned 40. Don't feel it, but the numbers don't lie, I guess. :) Will
  8. The last couple times I've been in there and checked, they've had small amounts of handgun ammo. Either the buying is slowing down, or they are getting regular shipments.
  9. That leftist clown doesn't have a clue about what he's talking.
  10. So if you have a few pellets of 7-1/2 shot stuck in a corner of your pocket somewhere, you're breaking the law if you cross the DC city limit line. Ooookaaay...
  11. This one is near my hometown. They do mostly mail-order, but I think you can drop by too. May be a good idea to call first to make sure dropping by is ok. I've been there, but it's been a few years. https://www.readymaderesources.com/cart/storable-food-units/mylar-bags-buckets-oxygen-absorbers-sealers/cat_402.html If you're storing food, have you thought about using dry ice? I've used O2 absorbers, but I've been wanting to try the dry ice method.
  12. I saw that. It's what made me think of the Strida. I like that QuietKat a lot. Wonder how long it will run on a charge. Too bad it looks like there isn't a manual pedal.
  13. Keep a couple cheap pool floating mattresses in the pack. Easy to inflate by lung, light, small and cheap. I used one most of a summer sleeping on the ground and it held up pretty well. When it quit holding air, I was out all of 2 bucks.
  14. That's EXACTLY what I've been wanting. Not for the back of the truck, but to stage near the city to get home 50 miles away in case the roads get clogged. One problem may be if all aircraft are grounded (remember 9/11?). But I think one may be able to get by anyway by riding the treetops and staying between the hills. Anyone know what kind of radar signature these things have? EDIT: Alternatively, I'd like to get a couple of these. They fold up to almost nothing. http://www.strida.com/en/main/
  15. That's an impressive muzzle brake.
  16. Is this real?  Any gearheads on here that keep track of this stuff?   I've been wanting a diesel vehicle to convert to run on filtered (or new) cooking oil.  But this would be a nice alternative.  Maybe even better.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=yjqkHhWUKOU&feature=endscreen   EDIT:  Never mind.  I don't think I'm buying it after doing some more reading.  http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/alternative-fuel/gas-mileage/4276846
  17. I think so.  I actually remember that episode.  We were talking about it the next day in school and the old "teacher" nearly had a coronary.
  18. Had to stay at a Holiday Inn (an OLD one) right smack in the center of downtown Atlanta a few years ago for a work-related class.  Didn't seem too bad until a co-worker and I went for a walk.  Turned a corner and it was like flipping a switch from "seems ok" to "uh-oh, lets GTFO".  Wasn't too far from Underground Atlanta, either, which has a really bad reputation now.     In Knoxville, just immediately east of the Old City (yes, going toward Magnolia/Cherry area) seems like a place I wouldn't want to be after dark.
  19. Doogie...
  20. <Sigh> I had one back in the '90's too. Can't believe I sold it. I would love to have one like it again. It was one of the very few guns I've ever sold.
  21. I started when I was two. Of course my Dad was holding the C&B revolver when I pulled the trigger. I'll probably start my now 7-month old when he shows an interest, whether that be two or ten years old. Of course everything will be under my control until I know he is responsible enough to handle it his self.
  22. Sad. And scary. It would just take another executive order to put us hand loaders out of business.
  23. I've heard of Rich Froning Jr. Probably from following Crossfit principles (loosely) for the last several years. The thing about eating healthy is that we've been fed (no pun intended) a load of bull for decades. Our brains NEED saturated fat to function correctly, or so I've read. Vegetarian/vegan diets are not so healthy. They have to be very cognizant of exactly what they're eating in order to supply their bodies with proper nutrition. I don know what Mr Froning eats, but I bet he's not a vegetarian. If I had to bet, I'd say he roughly follows a paleo-type diet, as many Crossfitters do. Which involves plenty of meat as well as vegetables. I think Lester's example is pretty indicative. I'd also bet that if his parents had modified their diet slightly and gotten lots of exercise that they would be in as good a shape as his wife's parents and still have better mental acuity. Looking at my own family, my maternal grandparents were farmers. Plenty of meat and other real food. My grandfather was born with a heart murmur and still lived to 84. My grandmother lived to 93 and was sharp as a tack until her last breath. Will
  24. That's what I do. But the only reason I go to East Town mall anymore is to get a haircut. Last time I suggested to her that she move somewhere else.
