If you're wanting a pistol in that style, take a look at the AP9. I know someone who has one and I've fired it quite a bit. It hasn't jammed as far as I can remember. Admittedly, it has been years since I've fired it. They aren't manufactured anymore, but there are probably some still floating around. Try to find a pre-'94. It will have the barrel shroud. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AP-9

Not in an urban setting, maybe. But if I want to walk the 1/4 mile down the rural road to my uncle's house or the next 1/4 mile to my brother's to see if he wants to go hunt some coyotes with my AR, I either have to 1) not walk and drive instead or 2) carry the gun there and then go back for my ammo in order to be absolutely legal. I can come up with several more that do not involve Walmart or Starbucks. I see what you're saying. You smell hypocrisy from those who berate some activists for carrying long guns in public and then say that it shouldn't be illegal. But it isn't hypocrisy to think that something is stupid but still shouldn't be illegal. It's a respect for liberty. Some of us still adhere to the old quote "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". The statists are the ones who say "I don't agree with what you say so there should be a law against you saying it. Another anecdote. My sister-in-law smokes cigarettes. I jump her case about it all the time. I think smoking is stupid. But I don't want to be able to call the government and have their enforcers come haul her away. On the contrary, if someone were to try that, they would have to face me first. I don't see the inconsistency there.

Assuming that BO is willing to leave office in 2017 for ANYONE.

Do you ever see other people carrying?
Clod Stomper replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I only open carry when I'm wearing my Speedo at the public pool. I'm kidding, of course. I still CC even then. -
If that was the one from early last year, you were about 20 feet from me and a friend of mine. It was her first gun show too. Sheesh...

Looks like the bayonet lug was milled off. If I'm not mistaken, the ATF, at least for a while, didn't allow them to be imported with the bayonet attached.

Wait... Clowns are REAL?! Great. No sleep for me tonight.

Good self defense training around the Chattanooga area?
Clod Stomper replied to mav's topic in Training Discussions
Can't help you with anything specific to the Chattanooga area, but here are my thoughts. I studied Isshinryu for several years. It was firmly oriented toward self-defense rather than competition. I suppose that would depend on the instructor. We also had a Jiu-Jitsu instructor in our class so we regularly cross trained in that discipline. If I had to pick ONE of those for self-defense, I'd go with JJ. That was years ago, and I'm very rusty and have been wanting to get back into something else. I've heard many good things about Krav Maga. When I get financially stable enough, I'm going study that. MMA seems to be all the rage right now. From what little I know, it should work very well for street defense also. Will -
Congrats on attending an Appleseed. I've been to several. One of the best deals in training you can find. Shoot me a PM if you like if you have any questions. As far as the sling, try to find an M-14 sling. There are a couple options for attaching it. Alternatively, a "Super Sling 2" from Walmart is a good alternative and can be used as a hasty or loop sling. Just curious, where is the Appleseed? I'm on the mobile site, so I can't see where you're located. Will

Don't sweat it TOO much. It isn't rocket surgery. My first couple, I did the precise measuring, scribing, etc. Now, I just eyeball it over the receiver rail. It has worked out just as well. It is a good idea to measure the distance from the shoulder on the barrel and the gas port and compare it to the distance from the back of the gas block to the gas hole. While many or most gas blocks are made to be used with a handguard end cap, I have used at least one (low-profile) that was not. It lined up perfectly with the gas port when bumped up snugly against the shoulder on the barrel. And like Dolomite said above, most gas block holes are large enough to allow for a slight misalignment, front-to-back and side-to-side. Even a couple hundredths.

What's the difference?

I was trying to remember the name of that store the other day. If its the same one you're talking about it was a sporting goods store where The Rush is now. They had a small selection of firearms. That was back when East Town Mall was still worth visiting occasionally.

Well? WTF? They were either undercover or they weren't. They were on-duty or off-duty. It sounds to me like they were part of the gang. If they were undercover, they were on duty. Of course I wouldn't take the word of a reporter to get the story straight.

Sounds like he should have run over a few more of them. This is what happens when the general public is conditioned to "let the 'authorities' handle it". And are often prosecuted when they administer a well-deserved beat-down to some a-hole. This I a bit of a tangent, but does anyone remember 9/11/01? That would have NEVER happened if it weren't for the aforementioned conditioning to sit back and let the "authorities" handle things. If the first two-legged cockroach who stood up and started screeching 'allahu akbar' had received a knife blade in his brainstem (yes, you could still take a pocket knife on a flight back then. I had one in my pocket on a flight one month before that happened), the rest may have rethought their plan or suffered the same fate. Likewise with those worthless slimebags on those bikes. If one group of them got steamrolled by a jacked up 4x4 or ventilated by an AR, the next group likely wouldn't be so bold. Before somebody blows a gasket and claims that I'm comparing Sept 11 to this incident, I am not. I AM saying that this country has become a society of panty-waists, by design and by law, and this is a result of it. I better go to bed. I'm cranky. Will

My neighbor and friend were shot last night
Clod Stomper replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
I've said since I was young that the gene pool needs a healthy dose of chlorine. -
Me neither, but by personal choice. :) My dad taught me how to repair and build all kinds of things when I was growing up. He could build practically anything. So I've taken what he taught me and added to it with my own experience. And hopefully, I can take my whole knowledge base and pass it on to my 8 month old so he can skip the basics and build his own, bigger skill base.

Doesn't that just power the flux capacitor? Cant remember. It's been a while since my quantum physics classes.

Thanks fellers. I've been checking Walmarts. No luck. I figured they'd ran out a while back. Guess I'll just use old copies and the website until the 2014 edition comes out. Thanks

Thanks for that link. I'll check it out. And I actually have been looking into wood gasification recently. Seems more viable. IIRC, people were using it during WWII because of fuel rationing.

Does anyone know if there are still any of Hodgdon's annual reloading manuals left on the shelf anywhere near Knoxville? I usually get one every year, but it slipped my mind until recently this year. Thanks, Will

If you're willing to spend a bit more time and money to get this one shooting, you may want to try cryo treating it. I have a Mini-30 that would walk the POI 3-4 inches at 25 yards. Yes, literally. It was predictable. It would move right and up. And make a "J" shaped group. I sent it to be cryo'ed and that improved it significantly. It still strings vertically, but not horizontally. And not as much vertically. It wasn't expensive. Maybe 50 bucks? Don't remember exactly.

It doesn't appear that anyone read the edit under the pic of the guy with the shotgun. "Edit: I was contacted by the individual pictured above. He is in the US Military, and for context, wanted to advise that this photo was taken in a Starbucks in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in 2005. He did not request the photo be removed, just wanted to add context for this particular photo. -Casey" Sorry if I missed anyone else point it out.

I like Ballistic for calculating down range ballistics. Just looked for Shooter in the Apple App Store. Couldn't find it.

How about a budget AR with a .22 conversion? Ammo is showing back up. Not much .22 yet, but it will. I saw some 5.56 bulk ammo yesterday.

I'm in Knox. I'll be more than happy to come by and help you get started. My schedule is a bit tight, but I'm sure we could work it out.
