  1. On clearance? Does that mean they're going to stop selling them?
  2. This makes me think there was a bit of water remaining in a couple of the cases. I've cleaned cases in detergent before and it can be surprisingly difficult to get them completely dry inside. Especially if the used primer was still in. On top of that, the suspect primers had enough energy to stick the bullet in the bore, but didn't ignite the powder. I bet the powder was wet.
  3. I was going to suggest McGinley's for parts. Probably for service or a new machine too, but I've never used them for those. The old guy in there can be a bit gruff at first but he knows his stuff and will help you. After he sees you a couple times, he's a lot nicer.
  4. I'm guessing it's a .308 Marlin. Right? If so, factory ammo is loaded with pointy, but soft-tipped bullets.
  5. Well, besides the slight bit of humor that Whitewolf picked up on referencing Independence Day, a group of friends usually gets together around the holiday with a variety of firearms for some safe, fun celebration. Not very far from where you'll be staying, too. We usually try to invite some people who may not have been exposed to firearms. Obviously you have been, but probably not the types that we will have. Oh well, maybe next time you visit.
  6. That didn't wake you up?  I know people who sleep better during storms.  I can't do it.  I've seen a lot of damage from wind and lightning so I lay awake thinking about what I'm going to have to fix in the morning.  Or worst case, that night.
  7.   When I first got my C&R FFL, FN49's were between 600-700 bucks.  I thought they were too expensive (also didn't realize what they were) so I didn't buy one.  I'm kicking myself now.
  8.   The extra velocity usually gained by the 9x21 would probably help, but Midway shows the Fiocchi 9x19 and 9x21 being similar published velocities.  So in this case, probably not.
  9. You won't happen to be here around July 4, will you?
  10. We're better shots. Edit: I should say THEY (American forces) are better marksmen than Middle East crazies.
  11. Meant to post this a while back. The Appleseed program finally has a range in East TN again. And it's conveniently located in Wear's Valley. Here's the schedule. There was also one a couple weeks ago, but I'm a slacker and didn't post in time. For those unfamiliar, Appleseed teaches the very basics of rifle marksmanship. The six steps to firing the shot, NPOA, trigger control, etc. And as a bonus they throw in a history lesson about the events of April 19,1775. All at an affordable price because they are non-profit. Even the instructors are volunteers. http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-location.php?locationid=534&id_event=2972
  12. Participating in an Appleseed shoot qualifies you. And they just happen to once again have some scheduled here in East Tn. Very conveniently located for Knox/Blount/Sevier and even Monroe counties. http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-location.php?locationid=534&id_event=2972
  13. Are you going to have problems taking it back with you? I don't know Britain's laws involving gun part importation.
  14. I think Dolomite made a rimless .22 Jet. That's the direction I would look. Load it down to .22 lr levels or up to Jet levels. I've been thinking about this very thing lately. Replacing .22 usage with small light cast loads.
  15.   But not really...
  16. So one person is more observant than 99% of the population?  He asked a question, didn't raise an alarm, just asked.  Maybe he wanted to meet a fellow traveler and didn't want to raise your hackles by approaching you directly.  Maybe he wanted to know what make, model and caliber piece you were carrying out of curiosity.     Hey, he works at a gun store.  He notices guns.  I notice carriers more than my wife does.  Doesn't mean I want to "out" them.  But I can talk guns all day with just about anyone.   In my opinion, he noticed you were carrying.  He thought you MAY be security.  He didn't want to bust your cover, so he asked someone he knows who you are.  I don't think it's a big deal.
  17. This BS has to stop at some point.  Wouldn't it be ironic if the hyper-demand for .22 lr caused it to become an obsolete round?     Can't get ammo?  Don't buy the gun...
  18. That is pretty funny.  And I don't think I'm old.     And to top it off, I found the couple's name to be humorously ironic.   http://www.riflebarrels.com/
  19. Which 18" barrel do you have?
  20. Interesting. Wonder if it had anything to do with this http://blog.princelaw.com/2014/05/14/did-atfs-determination-on-nics-checks-open-the-door-for-manufacture-of-new-machineguns-for-trusts/
  21. Did you go today?  Is it worth 5 bucks?  Sometimes the small ones aren't, but if it is, I might stop by.  Won't be selling anything though.  Sorry.
  22.   Actually, I would trust someone I've trained with in this situation MORE than I trust any moron on the road.  I fully expect most people I see to pull out in front of me/cross the center line/run a red light or stop sign or not see me while I'm walking.  Paranoid?  Not really.  I've avoided many more wrecks (not accidents) than I've been in.   Then there are the idiots who are absolutely determined to run into you.  Can't avoid them.
  23. Thank you.
  24. Sort of....   Sonic asked that "customers refrain from bringing guns onto our patios or into our indoor dining areas,” and Chili's just said  â€œWe kindly ask that guests refrain from openly carrying firearms into our restaurants and we will continue to follow state and local laws on this issue.”   If that's their final word, I can still pull in to Sonic and order from my vehicle (as the Good Lord intended and as I always do).  And Chili's just said "STOP IT and don't keep pushing us, you retreads".     I actually don't have a problem with their responses at this point.     At first, I was mostly supportive of open carry advocates.  But at this point, I'm starting to think they're some of them are plants for the antis.     In the words of one famous orator, "let me be clear".   I do support the right of citizens to carry handguns and long arms anywhere.  At one point in the history of this nation it would not have been unusual for someone to enter an establishment with a long arm.  But at this point in time (unfortunately) it is unusual and perceived as threatening.  Especially when done with the weapon at "low ready" like the buffoon in TX.     The reasons WHY it became out-of-the-norm are probably for another thread.  So I'll stop there.   Will
  25. Yep.  Seems very unsafe, but there is a very small handful of people I trust enough to "break the 180" with.  If I know that they are aware and competent enough (and I tell them I'm moving up), I would do it.   Without doing something similar, combat troops could never "leapfrog" toward the enemy.  By that, I mean one provides covering fire and the other moves up.  Someone with actual combat training can correct my terms, please.
