  1. In the mid '90s I bought a Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 1 and a plastic stock for it for about a hundred bucks. Now they're 300+. I bought a couple Swiss K31s for under a hundred bucks apiece about 9 years ago. Now they're about 300. Same with Mausers. Cheap as dirt just a few years ago and now going for 300+. I think the same thing will eventually happen with the Mosin Nagants. They've been cheap for a long time. But the price is gradually creeping up. At some point the supply will run out and the price will start to shoot up. And many people will say "if only we knew!" Well, we do know. I just wish I had a lot more disposable income to buy a few crates full. Look at the Finnish M39. What are they going for now? 250-300? More? I could have bought them at under 200 when I had my C&R FFL. As for non-surplus, you just never know. They high quality stuff will hold value and go up. (Winchester 1873.) The rare but cheap stuff will be sought after by collectors. (The Liberator, as mentioned.
  2. That last fat kid is left eye dominant. He needs to learn to shoot left-handed.
  3. How about an extreme? (Ignoring the fact that any such EO would be illegal and null and void. But of course, illegal laws are enforced all the time.) He signs an EO which does not contain a penalty. Despite there being no penalty some overzealous fed ossifer arrests someone for breaking the "law". He goes to court and is convicted. Is it a misdemeanor? A felony? Up to the judge? Well, it's a federal firearm crime, so probably a felony. No worries, there are no penalties written into Ze Orden. So no prison time. But now he's a felon and can't own ANY firearm. There are penalties for that. Probably far-fetched. But so is this admin. Just thinking out loud.
  4. Maybe a thin layer of silicon sealant?
  5. Me! Me! At least a little of most of it. Except .32 S&W.
  6. At least he was partially correct.
  7. Ok, gotcha. Yeah, a good cleaning will be the cheapest place to start.
  8. I think you're confusing the hammer spring with the recoil spring. A heavier or lighter recoil spring would change the recoil impulse required to cycle the slide. It will not affect how hard the hammer strikes the firing pin. A heavier hammer (or "main") spring will make the hammer hit the firing pin harder but will also make the trigger pull heavier. I would try Dolomite's suggestion first though. Probably just a crummy firing pin channel.
  9. A heavier spring will make your trigger pull heavier. If it used to work reliably, just get a stock weight spring.
  10. Congratulations. Those are super heavy for a 9mm handgun. Are they perhaps light rifle bullets? I'm curious if there is a legitimate load for that bullet for 9x19. Edit: After some searching, some people are using them for competition. Apparently they produce lighter perceived recoil. Because they're so slow. 750-800 fps.
  11. You're missing out on a lot of fun! Just kidding. Sort of.
  12. The only thing messing up that ecosystem was that massive nest of pests.
  13. I agree. I wasn't excusing it. I was saying that a 67 year old woman is more likely to panic and do something stupid. More so than I am, or than a 67 year old Oh Shoot is. She does need to be taught to be careful where she points that thing. But I hear it's near impossible to train irrational panic out of some women. I just heard, that's all. I don't think being a woman should give her special consideration either in the case of pointing at innocents. But I believe that it does happen. Look at divorce custody battles. Who usually gets the kids? Different situation, I know. As far as the act of drawing in the first place, an old woman probably should be specially considered. Disparity of force and all that.
  14. I haven't seen the video either. It sounds like she panicked and overreacted. But that doesn't excuse some jackass for approaching an elderly lady asking for a light. WhoTF asks for a light? This isn't 1950. And yes, it is a common set-up for a purse snatching or robbery. Had it been me, my spidey senses would have been tingling and I would have started scanning all around. I've seen my wife go completely "gaspy" at certain things that I don't even blink at, so I can see how a 67 year old woman could panic in that situation. IMO she needs more training and to stay away from Walmart. Not an indictment. Edit: I've seen a few people mention that the guy never got closer than 10 feet. "Are you going to draw on everyone who comes within 10 feet?" That sounds more like comments I would see in Huffington Post. But just in case I need to explain, No, I'm not drawing on everyone who comes within 10 feet. But they are on my radar. If they start acting suspiciously, like asking for a light, they're getting extra attention. Depending, I may even have my hand on my gun. I probably won't draw and point it toward third parties, but I'm also not a 67 year old woman.
  15. I tried that place out for the first time when I was in Cali a few months ago. It was ok, but I guess I don't see what the hoopla is about. I do like not having TOO many options. Simple is good. Is that the draw?
  16. I suspect that was his father's intention. From one source I read, one reason he was suspended was because he couldn't even explain what the device was.
  17. Nope. No cost savings at this time. When I finished my first one, finished lowers were about 150. Don't remember what the 80%s were, but less than that. And they were off the books. That may not seem like a big deal to some people, but to others it's worth a premium.
  18. Heh heh. I'm with Monkey Man. I'm not afraid of heights. But I can swim, I can't fly. It would be interesting to compare deaths from flying vs boating. Anyway, this year I flew for the first time in 10 years. It will most likely be a dire emergency (or extremely lucrative opportunity) before I will fly commercially again. Eff the crowds, eff the TSA, eff not being in control of the vehicle. If you want to know if sweaty palms is a real phenomenon, check my hands during take-off and landing.
  19. If anything, that will keep us OFF the watch lists.
  20. You gotta do it yourself. Someone may let you rent time on their milling machine.
  21. Not military, former civilian employee. I got a letter a few days ago. I'll just sign up for the ID protection and try not to worry about it. I'm not a high value target.
  22. My wife has one in .40. (Bought it from "Lumpy" Lambert at a show, btw.) Pros: Good size for carry, SUPER accurate, good size for her small hands. Cons: It isn't all that reliable. I have heard the 9mm is more reliable. If it isn't squeaky clean and lubed, it will jam all day. I guess the tolerances are so tight. Good for accuracy, bad for reliability. And I don't like the mag release.
  23. I wouldn't recommend a PPK. A friend of mine has one. Overpriced and not all that great. Trigger is awful and reliability is iffy. If you want something similar, look at a Bersa. My dad has an older Colt Mustang. It's really nice. Smooth, small, and recoil is nil because it's recoil operated instead of blowback. All that said, I'd look at a small 9mm. Better energy and not much size trade-off.
  24. Seconded. Before Ruger released their Single-Seven in .327 Federal, I was considering having a Single-Six or a Blackhawk converted by him. It would have cost maybe a couple thousand bucks, but would be true heirloom quality. BTW, he is just south of Knoxville in Louisville. I've seen him at a gun show, but that's rare.
  25. +1 on Harry Turtledove. I liked Guns of the South. But the World War series is my favorite so far. In it, we are invaded by aliens in the midst of WWII. Then comes the Colonization series where the aliens' colonization ships arrive. And even past that. But I won't drop spoilers. I need to pick up some of his other series. And thanks for the heads up on The Man in the High Castle. I hadn't heard about it.
