Seriously? You skinny slacker. :yum:

There used to be one close to there, but apparently not anymore. Looks like the closest is Manchester, which looks like quite a drive for you. http://appleseedinfo.org/search-states-display.php?qstate=TN&statename=Tennessee Sorry, I used to be a bit involved in Appleseed, but I've been out of the loop for a while. Edit: Another thing I'd like to add... The year before the "Appleseed Project" was officially underway, a friend and I drove the home range in Ramseur, NC. That range is tremendous. A short, 25 meter range and a full 600 (?) yard range with electronic pop-up steel targets. I remember that trip fondly. If anyone has a chance to go there, I highly recommend it.

Funny, when I read the title, "Stoeger Cougar" popped in my head. Very accurate, good ergonomics for me, reliable, and affordable. If it wasn't so wide (including the safety), I'd carry it as my EDC.

Possibly. But there's always a trade-off. Edit: I haven't ordered a ton from them, but my orders were always shipped in a reasonable time frame.

Yup. I've spun apart light varmint bullets out of a 1:9 twist.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/category/view/s/psa-glock-barrels/id/4396/ I'm intrigued. I hope they eventually add other calibers and conversion barrels. And someday run one of their awesome sales on them.

That's good to know. Thanks.

I've only read about this concept, I've never used it. Basically, I need some new equipment but have little funds, so I thought I could raise the funds to buy it through one of the crowdfunding sites. In return, I would provide a service to the donors using the equipment. I might even try to start a small side-business, but not sure about that. I've found four sites so far. Kickstarter, GoFundMe, FundAnything, and RocketHub. It seems like Kickstarter is the largest, but also seems to focus on "creative" projects. There is no category for business start-ups Can the donors be kept local? I couldn't very well pay back someone if they're hundreds of miles away. And lastly, if my goal isn't reached, is there a way to return the funds to the donors? I see with at least one of the sites that you can only collect when the goal is reached, so the donor would get his money back, correct? Thanks for any help, Will

If he joins ISIS, he probably won't be allowed back into the country. Just an FYI. Only kidding, that's really cool. I'd be proud. -
Yeesh. That's the second time today that I agree with you.

I used to be a wildland firefighter. I always said, the most dangerous thing we do is driving to and from the fire. -

Glad that you're ok. Nice reflexes on the Highway, Mrs. Kraut. :) People really are getting nuts lately. It's most apparent on the road. -
It's a good price if it a decent handguard. https://www.primaryarms.com/ALG_13_EMR_Handguard_Black_p/alg-13emr.htm If anyone has used one, I'd like to hear your opinion of the quality.

I wonder if this would work? Glow in the dark paint+fiber optic

Let me check. I may have some Tru-Glo sights that I took off a 10/22. If you'd still like to try it, that is. -
Doesn't sound like it went through an FFL. If it had, the short barrels probably would have been noticed. If it was a private sale, just STFU and destroy the barrels.

Need help from members with knowledge of Virginia gun laws
Clod Stomper replied to plank white's topic in General Chat
While I don't know the specifics of VA law, I used to work there and I seem to recall that it is a free state that recognizes TN "permits". What I usually do in a foreign state is this: Obey all traffic laws. i.e. Don't speed, don't tailgate, use your turn signal. Don't draw attention to yourself in other ways. Waaay back when i was a bit more naive than I am now, I carried in the city of Chicago when I went to visit in-laws. Kept a low profile and had no problems. While I probably wouldn't do that again, I would have no consternation about carrying in Virginia. But were I to travel there frequently, I would study up on their laws. -

who casts and powder coats in clarksville
Clod Stomper replied to Ron Padilla's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I don't think you're going to want to bother with the powder gun. The easiest way will be the tumbler method. The only way I've done it so far was solvent carrier method. Worked ok, but not as easy. I have an old tumbler ready to go, just haven't had a chance to try yet. -
Yes. How much hiking and/or backpacking do you do? I've done quite a bit in the past. If you're getting out 3-4 times per year, any old tent will probably do fine. Focus on sleeping comfortably. Which means a comfy sleeping pad and a roomy, warm sleeping bag. Even in the summer, you can unzip and lay outside a bag that is too warm, but you can't add layers to a bag that is too cool. I got caught in high elevations in Wyoming in August a few years ago. My bag wasn't enough. Fortunately, we had some spare bags flown in and I was able to double up. After that, I slept comfortably even when it dipped into the 20's at night. Back to the tent. Make sure it is large enough. If it is rated for two people, assume that it will sleep ONE (plus gear) comfortably. I like a vestibule so I can leave my gear outside and it still stay dry. And the door should zip out to the side. If it falls to the bottom, it will get muddy and dirty in no time. Come to think of it, there was a thread about this very thing not too long ago. Had some pretty good info. What other gear are you thinking of?

I see. Makes sense, I guess. Not my bag of tea, but to each his own. I thought maybe the trigger pull was so rough that it takes two fingers to pull it (since it's an AK). :hiding:

Based on experience, I'd say the chrome bore will definitely be ok with corrosive ammo. The gas system, as you said, is a different story. It will rust like an '80's Chevy. And it is good to be suspicious of all eastern European ammunition. I've found that out the hard way a few times I've even had some recent Sellier & Bellot that was corrosive. BTW, a good soaking with WD-40 will save you a thorough cleaning for those couple days while you're waiting for the cases to rust. Never had a problem with rust with known corrosive ammo when I soaked the bore with the WD. Edit: What is up with that trigger? That's ridonkulous.

Yeah. What was I thinking?

I probably have some .243 brass you can have. Next time I get home, I'll scrounge up what I have. PM me your number and I'll let you know when I'm coming. Like Jonnin said, it's more worthwhile to buy ammo or cases for common rounds. I've formed a few different rounds. Some because I had to and some because I just wanted to. The cases do tend to split sooner (I think annealing may alleviate that), you have to make sure the shoulder is set back enough, which may require trimming down a shellholder (shouldn't be a problem going from .308 to .243), and the problem you ran into, necking down makes the case neck thicker. Let me know. I doubt I'll shoot much .243 anytime soon and I have a little brass. You're welcome to it. Edit: Oops. What Lowpower said as well. He's obviously formed a lot more cases than I have.
