  1. Glad that you're ok.  Nice reflexes on the Highway, Mrs. Kraut.   :)   People really are getting nuts lately.  It's most apparent on the road.
  2. It's a good price if it a decent handguard. https://www.primaryarms.com/ALG_13_EMR_Handguard_Black_p/alg-13emr.htm If anyone has used one, I'd like to hear your opinion of the quality.
  3. Let me check. I may have some Tru-Glo sights that I took off a 10/22. If you'd still like to try it, that is.
  4.   Doesn't sound like it went through an FFL.  If it had, the short barrels probably would have been noticed.     If it was a private sale, just STFU and destroy the barrels.
  5. While I don't know the specifics of VA law, I used to work there and I seem to recall that it is a free state that recognizes TN "permits".     What I usually do in a foreign state is this:  Obey all traffic laws.  i.e. Don't speed, don't tailgate, use your turn signal.  Don't draw attention to yourself in other ways.     Waaay back when i was a bit more naive than I am now, I carried in the city of Chicago when I went to visit in-laws.  Kept a low profile and had no problems.     While I probably wouldn't do that again, I would have no consternation about carrying in Virginia.  But were I to travel there frequently, I would study up on their laws.
  6.   I must be as blind as I am deaf.
  7. I don't think you're going to want to bother with the powder gun. The easiest way will be the tumbler method. The only way I've done it so far was solvent carrier method. Worked ok, but not as easy. I have an old tumbler ready to go, just haven't had a chance to try yet.
  8. Yes.  How much hiking and/or backpacking do you do?  I've done quite a bit in the past.  If you're getting out 3-4 times per year, any old tent will probably do fine.  Focus on sleeping comfortably.  Which means a comfy sleeping pad and a roomy, warm sleeping bag.  Even in the summer, you can unzip and lay outside a bag that is too warm, but you can't add layers to a bag that is too cool.  I got caught in high elevations in Wyoming in August a few years ago.  My bag wasn't enough.  Fortunately, we had some spare bags flown in and I was able to double up.  After that, I slept comfortably even when it dipped into the 20's at night.   Back to the tent.  Make sure it is large enough.  If it is rated for two people, assume that it will sleep ONE (plus gear) comfortably.  I like a vestibule so I can leave my gear outside and it still stay dry.  And the door should zip out to the side.  If it falls to the bottom, it will get muddy and dirty in no time.   Come to think of it, there was a thread about this very thing not too long ago.  Had some pretty good info.     What other gear are you thinking of?
  9.   I see.  Makes sense, I guess.  Not my bag of tea, but to each his own.           I thought maybe the trigger pull was so rough that it takes two fingers to pull it (since it's an AK).     :hiding:
  10.   Based on experience, I'd say the chrome bore will definitely be ok with corrosive ammo.  The gas system, as you said, is a different story.  It will rust like an '80's Chevy.     And it is good to be suspicious of all eastern European ammunition.  I've found that out the hard way a few times  I've even had some recent Sellier & Bellot that was corrosive.     BTW, a good soaking with WD-40 will save you a thorough cleaning for those couple days while you're waiting for the cases to rust.  Never had a problem with rust with known corrosive ammo when I soaked the bore with the WD.     Edit:  What is up with that trigger?  That's ridonkulous.
  11. Yeah. What was I thinking?
  12. I probably have some .243 brass  you can have.  Next time I get home, I'll scrounge up what I have.  PM me your number and I'll let you know when I'm coming.   Like Jonnin said, it's more worthwhile to buy ammo or cases for common rounds.  I've formed a few different rounds.  Some because I had to and some because I just wanted to.     The cases do tend to split sooner (I think annealing may alleviate that), you have to make sure the shoulder is set back enough, which may require trimming down a shellholder (shouldn't be a problem going from .308 to .243), and the problem you ran into, necking down makes the case neck thicker.   Let me know.  I doubt I'll shoot much .243 anytime soon and I have a little brass.  You're welcome to it.       Edit:  Oops.  What Lowpower said as well.  He's obviously formed a lot more cases than I have.
  13. Ok.  Haven't been to ORSA IDPA for several years.     Thanks
  14. He's a naturalized citizen?  I didn't know that.  Don't they have to take the Oath of Allegiance, which includes allegiance to the Constitution?  Isn't there some prohibition to "dissing" parts of that Constitution?   I used to like this effer.
  15.   Your Granddad was a bit older than mine.  He was born in 1905.  He taught me how to hunt, track, trap and farm.  I wish I'd had more time to learn from him, but he passed when I was 15.  He only had a L.C. Smith double-barrel shotgun, a Savage 99 in .300, a .38 Spl S&W, and that old Stevens .22 Hornet, but he knew how to use them and took more game than I probably ever will.  For food, not for sport.     If you're like me, you probably value that J.C. Higgins more than anything else in your safe.  After all these years, I still remember when my Papaw gave me that Stevens.  And I still miss him.   I'm a bit of a tinkerer, and if I didn't have a sentimental attachment to my Hornet, I probably would have considered reaming it to K Hornet if I had not already experimented with the .30-30 AI.  But I learned with that one that the costs of these "improved" rounds usually outweigh the benefits.
  16. On sale at Midway if you're ordering something else.  If not, then check Walmarts.  That's where I usually get mine.   http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1398331116/uncle-mikes-quick-detachable-super-sling-swivel-set?cm_vc=ProductFinding   Just curious, what kind of sights are you putting on your LTR?
  17. I wish these guys well.  It's the BATFE's own fault because they wanted to "be cute" and say that trusts aren't people in regard to background checks.   I kinda wish I had formed a trust and submitted a Form 1 back in May.     http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/78777-atf-accidentally-opens-machine-gun-registry/
  18.   That's the truth.  The worst place I've ever attempted to eat.... I mean the WORST place EVER... was a Waffle House in Columbia, SC.  I can rarely recall a time when I couldn't finish my food, but that was one of them.  A friend and I walked out and left our "food" on the table.  I'm actually surprised we didn't get ill from eating a few bites of what was served.  I can't furnish details, because it's been over 10 years since.  But that sticks out in my mind.  I do remember the next morning we went to an IHOP and felt like we were dining at a 5-star restaurant.     I don't think I've been to a Waffle House since.  Unless I was coerced.
  19. If there is an exception to that, it will probably be a northeastern state.  Most likely New Joisey.   Edit:  Or Massasuxetts.   Sorry about my spelling.  I know it's terrible.
  20. What about a size reference?  What was the other stuff in the box?
  21. I haven't used the ORSA rifle range since I was a teenager.  But I have shot IDPA there a few years ago.  I also tried to hawk Appleseed there once.  They didn't host one.  But it still seems to be a good place.
  22.   Seriously?  I did not know that C-Products was a gov contractor.   I've only used their 6.5 Grendel mags.  In the early days, their 20-round mags had issues (IIRC) and the 30-rounders worked fine.     Wait a sec...  I've also used their 7.62x39 mags for case-forming.  They worked fine as well.
  23.   Yes.  Do not grind it without purging it somehow.  Unless you want to make this year's Darwin Awards list.
  24.   Actually, I have most of those things in my truck.  Because I use them frequently.  No handcuffs, though.   I'm not going to worry with cuffs.  A bullet in each knee does the same thing.               I'M KIDDING,  I'M KIDDING!
