  1. Cornbread.. yuck.. its like eating chicken scratch..

Black eyes peas... taste like dirt...

any innards.. like  liver, sweet breads and kidneys.. no thanks..Had enough of it when I was growing up...

Did I mention Corn bread? gross...

and Hushpuppies.. same as chicken scratch

    Blasphemy!

Ok, well cornbread is pretty much chicken scratch.  Chickens like cracked corn.

    BEP, I like their music.

Innards ain't bad.  Very nutrition dense.

Hushpuppies are basically cornbread.  As you've surmised.

  2. I've only had a vehicle burgled once.  It was 1996.  At that time, I had been keeping a cheap Universal .30 carbine behind the rear seat.  I had just removed it days before the loser broke in.  They took a mag that I had left in the console, but the carbine was safe.

Learned a lesson.  I still sometimes leave a firearm in the vehicle, but it's secured beyond a broken window.

  3. I use a similar model when I subcontract as a security operator at Cool Spring Galleria. I find it allows me more freedom of movement when doubling up on my lvl 5 reactive body armor.

Gecko45?  Is that you?  I was wondering where you ended up.

  4. I just now watched the video.  That goes way beyond carrying chambered.  The victim already had a weapon in his hand and dropped it to try to pull out an unchambered handgun.  He may not have made it anyway, but he would have had a better chance if he'd smashed the murderer's head as soon as he grabbed his shirt.  And then taken out a chambered handgun to engage the accomplice, assuming he knew who he was.

    Seems like a training issue.

  5. Like I told my wife, people are looking for any reason to riot and loot. If the decision was that the officer was not going to be prosecuted people were going to riot and loot. Now had the grand jury decide to prosecute those same people would have been so overjoyed they would have rioted and looted. Just saying those that riot and loot generally look for ANY reason to do it, good or bad.

    Yep.

  6. Like Mike Gideon said above, if you ease the bolt closed on a round, it may not go fully into battery.  That's when to use the forward assist to push the bolt into battery and seat the round.  Much more quiet than letting it slam home.  That sound can carry a long way on a foggy fall morning.

    ...D'oh.  Beat again by OS.

  7. There are several good brands. Bushmaster has $50 rebates now. Advice I have always adhered to is to use what military and law enforcement use. If I am not mistaken, slickguns has them on sale for $700 plus the $50 rebate. This is the same model many LEO agencies are using. Sport models usually have lighter barrels and heat up much more quickly and accuracy can suffer until they cool. Forward assist seems to only be needed if the gun is really fouled up or as someone mentioned before about reloading issues and you need to help the round into the chamber (been there, done that). If it wasn't needed they wouldn't have put it on originally. The dust cover thing is handy when I am in the woods and need to track something or get to a stand and am making my way though the brush. Any cover over the action is a plus.

I would ONLY use the forward assist if I knew absolutely what was wrong.  You may be jamming the bullet into the lands, or a case neck into the throat.  Bad news.  I have used it exactly once.  And I knew that I had failed to push the shoulder back far enough on some cases that I was fire-forming.

If you're stepping out of the truck and heading into the woods and you don't want the bolt carrier slamming home loudly is another reason to use the forward assist.  But again, you know what is going on.

And as a matter of fact, they didn't put it on originally.  It was an A1 modification for the jungle of Vietnam because of dirty powder and no cleaning kits.  At least that's the reason I've read.  I wasn't there.

  8. Yes, grips make a tremendous difference in perceived recoil.  I've tried the Redhawk with both the stock rosewood grips and some aftermarket Pachmayr grips.  The rosewood grips made it almost intolerable with full loads.  No problem with the rubber grips.

  9. If I was a cop it would be my sole mission in life to pull over every offender of not using turn signals or thinking that actually using the blinkers gives them some right to do whatever they please and cite them to the fullest extent possible.

Throw in the tailgaters, lane-weavers, left-lane bandits, failers-to-yield, and other assorted blind, stupid, and oblivious morons and I'm right there with you.

  10. Yep, sort of two different stories with similar plots and characters is the way I look at it too.

Just FYI, I heard a rumor that the original script was almost identical to the comics.  Then it was rewritten.  Here are some scenes from the original script.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR4lLJu_-wE

Edit:  Not funny?   Sorry about that.  I thought that video was hilarious.

I like most of those Bad Lip Reading videos.  I have a warped sense of humor.

  11. Yeah, it's a cool idea. I haven't been able to find out its natural length though. Meaning, if you have to offset the brace past end of tube just to get same minimum LOP as KAK tube or what.

For example, the Phase 5 Hex tube is shorter than the KAK, but it's designed to offset the tube from the gitgo to get about same length as non-offset KAK. But the KAK with the spacers allows you increase even that securely.

Also note that if using the SBX brace, no forward retention is necessary on any tube, assuming the tube is long enough to suit you without offsetting it.

    Hmmm...   pondering.... pondering...

  12. The last time I held one of these I thought "Sig made this way too thick and heavy to pocket carry". I would recommend getting your hands on one before buying.

    Good info.  Thanks.

  13. I haven't seen anyone mention this one.  It's adjustable.  Don't know about their buffer tubes, but I've bought an Odin Works barrel.  Haven't fired it, but it looks good so far.

    http://www.primaryarms.com/Odin_Works_Stabilizing_Brace_Pistol_Tube_p/acc-spbt-kit.htm?

BTW, when they were in stock the price was much less.  Don't remember exactly.  But it seemed like a good deal.

  14. Jig only cost me the time I spent making it and some scrap, and mine is MUCH simpler than some commercially marketed with intent to make machining a lower with a hand drill or drill press easier. I technically don't need a jig with the mill, but it simplifies repeat setup (especially depth) of a few of the steps with my mill which helps consistency.

If I was a better machinist and had more free time I'd just start with a block of aluminum and the mill.

I don't reload, machine, or build my own rifles to save any money but when one hobby can help save a little here or there on another hobby it gives me something to tell the wife I "saved money" on.  :pleased: (I need all the help I can get)

I also occasionally wear costumes around to raise money for children's charities and someone in that group questioned my 3d printing of a component for one of my costumes stating "It's only $20 to buy one" So what, I spent around $2 in ABS printing it with machine I've already got and had fun doing it.

Yah.  Apparently OP isn't a tinkerer.

To paraphrase an old cliche...  "It's a Tinkerer thing.  You wouldn't understand."

I like building my own stuff.  Simple as that.

It's not cheaper, it's not easier.  But it is funner and more rewarding.

Edit:  My first 80% lower was finished without the benefit of a jig.  Only an unfinished lower and some obscure measurements.  It ain't perfect, but it does function.  Even took it to an Appleseed.  I didn't make Rifleman that time, but it was my own fault, not that of the machine.

  15. Eff' im.  I'm sick and tired of people like that.  100 years ago he would have been dragged out of his buggy and taught a lesson.  Now, he would be the "victim" and the one who bruised him would be the "perp".  The a-holes are protected and the good folks are afraid to stand up to them.  This isn't an isolated incident.  This society can't last long.

Edit:  Yes, my chronic misanthropy is really acting up today.

  16. Yes and no. You can even build it with the intent to sale or trade, as long as it does not fit the conditions of "being in the business".

"The term “engaged in the business” means—
...as applied to a manufacturer of firearms, a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to manufacturing firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the sale or distribution of the firearms manufactured"

"The term “with the principal objective of livelihood and profit” means that the intent underlying the sale or disposition of firearms is predominantly one of obtaining livelihood and pecuniary gain, as opposed to other intents, such as improving or liquidating a personal firearms collection"

That is correct. I am not a lawyer. I have no legal advice. The ATF decides if they prosecute you for being in the business without a license. Note however, there is no difference between this and simply selling a firearm you bought at retail -- you could be prosecuted for either if they feel they can prove you did it just for the bucks, and AFAIK the penalty is the same for either.

And THIS, my friends, is why the federal government should be involved in neither alcohol, tobacco, nor firearms.

    Oh yeah...  and explosives.
