Nice job.  Looks like the pic was taken in the hospital.     As others have asked, how on earth does that happen?   I'll take a "stab" at it.  He had a failure to eject.  Reached in the breech to dislodge it, and the bolt carrier flew forward.  Que?   Edit:.  I take it back.  Don't think it could have driven it through the finger that way.

Writing was eliminated a couple years ago, I think. And reading may as well be cut out. It doesn't seem to be working very well.

You might consider covering the existing dovetail with a ramp like the newer 336s. Other than that, the easiest option is going to be a taller front sight. If you go with the ramp, you could avoid drilling and tapping the barrel by using a dovetail slot blank to fill the existing dovetail slot and drill the blank instead. With no permanent modifications.

It was 500 when I bought mine back in the early '90s. Up to 750 normally now, isn't it?

For 200, I'd use Duracote or Cerakote. Heck, I'd probably use chalkboard paint as Dolomite_Supafly has mentioned. I certainly wouldn't put a 100-150 dollar finish on a $200 pistol. Heckuva deal, btw. Edit: As far as blue, it's basically cosmetic, not protective. Phosphate is a bit better in that it will hold oil. Even better, it will hold Dura- or Cerakote very well.

I'm glad I grabbed a couple when they were $75 apiece. :)
