  1. That's too cool. I bet the rounds were custom made too.
  2. I read a book years ago about Special Forces in Vietnam. The author mentioned that SF preferred the "Stoner" over the M-16. I wonder if that's the rifle that he was referring to. Edit: No, it was probably the Stoner 63 mentioned above.
  3. It's my belief (my hope, at least) that this is a joke.
  4. Me neither. I'm getting one.
  5. Don't think they ever were intended to be a law enforcement agency. They're a tax collection agency. Until the rearrangement after Sept 11, 01, they were under treasury. But they've seen themselves as LE superninjas for a long time now. I've never had any respect for an agency whose sole purpose is to tax and restrict my RKBA. I used to be acquainted with an ATF agent. On a personal level, he was a nice guy. But he told stories of how they would harass individuals selling guns at flea markets. I don't think agents who respect gun rights make it very far in that bureau. That's the impression I get.
  6. How many other guns do you have that have no logical purpose? I know I have a few. Actually, it's about the length of a 1911 right? That's not too bad. Do you hunt? Hike? That extra barrel length will make some +p 147 gr 9mms really scream. Vihtavouri publishes a 9mm load that rivals .357 Mag. A 17 round .357 Mag for woods walking. Sounds like enough reason to me.
  7. Only two options for gender? Racists.
  8. I haven't ran into that, but it sounds to me like that would work. I would tighten up the front screw first.
  9. Actually my very first move, unless you are absolutely sure you aren't anticipating the shot, would be to let a couple other people shoot it. "Bucking" (the opposite of flinching) will cause low shots too. It may well not be the problem, but you may want to rule it out.
  10. I prefer sighting in at 25 yards.  You'll be a couple inches high at 100 and then back on somewhere between 200 and 300 depending on the round and the height of the sights.
  11.   What on earth are they going to make then?  .32 Long pocket rockets?
  12. According to common "rules", and my experience also, lighter bullets will hit lower.  Reason being is that the pistol starts recoiling as soon as the bullet leaves the case.  A heavier bullet recoils more AND moves slower, so the muzzle has more time to rise before the bullet leaves the muzzle.  So they hit higher.   However, it never hurts to try and see what a lighter bullet will do.
  13. That was my first rifle. No, not that exact one, but same model. I won't be suppressing mine, but it sure is fun to shoot. It will be my little boy's someday. Nice job on that one. Your granddaughter will love it.
  14. My brother bought one. Handy little carbine, actually. Short lever throw makes it pretty quick. Savage 99 isn't really traditional either. It was pretty successful for about a century.
  15.
  16. I think you just out-Farrakhan'ed Louis Farrakhan. Oops. Almost forgot. Cookies! http://blogs.amctv.com/the-walking-dead/2015/03/bake-your-own-batch-of-carols-cookies-with-this-recipe/
  17. Been on the receiving end of that one a couple times.
  18. Ouch. That probably wasn't cheap.
  19. I batted that idea around in my head for a while. Where did he find a Diesel engine? Out of a Navara?
  20. I've heard the same argument from people about hunting. Something like this "I can't wear earmuffs out in the woods when I'm hunting. " No, maybe not (unless they're electronic), but can wear them in the backyard when you're shooting. "I want to get used to gunfire." There is a clinical term for gettin used to loud noises. It's called "deafness". I did plenty of shooting (and mowing, and sawing and tractor work, etc.) without ear protection when I was younger. Now I have hearing loss to show for it.
  21.   I wouldn't compare it to that, no.  Since I was born like this, I have no idea what it is like to have 2 eyes.  But my brain has compensated, I think.  Based on things like movement, relative size, things like that, I can judge distances fairly well.  Sometimes I catch myself subconsciously moving my head back and forth to see the relative movement of objects.  Sort of triangulating, I guess.   It's easy to see what it's like.  Just cover one eye and see how the world is different.
  22. I'm just like your son. I'm right-handed but can barely see out of my right eye. I don't know how old your son is, but teach him now to shoot long guns left-handed. It is the easiest solution. He will quickly get used to it. Like Murgatroy said, using some odd device will limit him to whatever rifle that device is on. On top of that, if the sight is off to the side, he will be limited to whatever distance it is sighted in. POI will move right if it's closer and left if it's farther out. Good luck.
  23. Well, that was part of the propaganda program against them. Complete BS of course. Any jacket bullet can have sharp edges. Oh, and they weren't banned. Winchester changed the name and omitted the black coating on the bullet.
  24. I'm amazed by this article.  He actually gets the facts straight.  And laments the fact that this move will hurt dems in the next election.  I hope he's right.   http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dennis-santiago/executive-order-m855_b_6773274.html
  25. Au contraire, you don't just have one chambered. You have SIX! (Or maybe 5).
