My 442 carries perfectly in my front pocket.
-
I bought mine from a dealer on GunBroker for $400, shipped. Here's a pic of the 442 alongside my LCR, because all threads need pics. :) No lock
It's still a current model which is linked below. It can be ordered if your LGS doesn't have one. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_766181_-1_757768_757767_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y
Yep, I was just about to chime in with this. I recently sold a 642-1 and bought a current model 442-1 (also readily available). I read that S&W keep producing them because they're so popular among LEOs for BUG use.

I had the G36 for a minute but the slim grip was painful (for me) when shooting. Your mileage may vary. I ended up with a G27 in a VMII and, while I know you're not interested in adding .40 cal to your inventory, my guess is that a G26 would suit you perfectly. As for slimness, the G27 practically disappears in my waistband, and I'm a fat boy. You might also want to consider Trijicon's new sights for competition. I can't remember the model, but they're similar to Ameriglo's orange-front config, but Trijicon also offers a yellow front. Here are some pics:

Earlier this year I went through SEVERAL models of Glock before finally settling on the G27 for EDC. I carry it in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II. I know some people think that holster is a bit over-hyped (I did for a long time), but owning and carrying one makes a huge difference. Two years ago my personal bias was causing me to steer people away from Glock, but now it's the first thing I recommend (if I know the shooter is experienced).

I don't have it anymore, but I toned down my G23 RTF2 by lightly rubbing the rear end of a Sharpie over it until I liked it. Worked perfectly and didn't mar the frame.

I would jump on that deal. Nice gun you're getting, there!
-
Yep, to everything above (especially the training). I would add that you also need to pass a background check at time of purchase, but it's performed over the phone while you wait and the fee is $10.

Wow! I took my HCP class from Buford Tune, back in the day. Reading now...

Thanks, all. It's got an extremely tight slide to frame fit. Trigger take-up is a little springy, but it breaks crisps and has a nice reset. I'm predicting it will be a great shooter. ETA: I forgot to mention that while it is a Series 80 design, the FPS is linked to the grip safety, leaving the trigger feeling just like a Series 70 gun. Pretty cool innovation.

Is there a story?

Hey, all. I finally got my Smith & Wesson Gunsite in this week and thought I'd post a few pics. It doesn't look like I'll get out to shoot it this weekend, but a range report isn't far away. Feel free to post pics of your own in response. This one bears the FSP (Front Site, Press) serial number prefix, and is the 940th unit produced. It has minor handling marks but was unfired by the original owner. I can't wait to shoot the snot out of it!

Well, it may be a little longer before I get an SP-101. I recently caved and bought a S&W 1911PD Gunsite, and I doubt if there will be enough birthday funds to get the Ruger. For now, it'll have to stay on my bucket list.

I went through a few Colts a couple of years ago, and I got excellent help directly from Colt. Just call them with the serial number and they'll tell you everything you could want to know about it. As for value, it would depend on things like overall condition, caliber, finish, whether it's in original condition, and whether it includes the original box and papers. If it's original with 95% finish and box and papers, my wild guess would be anywhere between $900 and $1,500, depending on particulars. If it's in worse shape, or has been modified or missing box and papers, the price could be as low as $600-$700. Still, it really just depends on what the market will bear. Once you get your info, dig through GunBroker or GunsAmerica for some check prices. Good luck!

Ah, missed the part about it not being yours. Too distracted by the gun. Thanks for posting!

VERY nice. I came really close to buying an ES, but got a great deal on the Gunsite for now. I'm glad to see you carrying it in an MTAC. No worries with finish wear?
-
Yep, looks like it! Anyone else got a S&W 1911? I just want something to drool over until mine gets here.

Great review! That model is on my list to get someday. For mods, you might want to poke around RimfireCentral.com - Rimfire Community! and check out some of the parts made by 'rusty22'. Here's a thread showing off his adapter plates that allow you to use 1911 grips: 1911 Grip Adapter Plates He also makes a BMT (Buckmark Tool) that people seem to like. ETA: Here's another great mod thread.

That's a sharp pistol. Did it come that way, or did you make some mods?

I broke down and bought a S&W Gunsite 1911 last night. It should be here in a week or so, and I'm pretty stoked. Any other Smith 1911s here on the forum? Let's see 'em! Seller pics (until I can take my own):

This is good stuff, guys! I'm thinking of asking for an SP101 for my bday (or maybe some cash to help me get to it). I don't have any wheel guns at the moment, and I'm really liking the bobbed-hammer model.

Do any of you carry in kydex?

Nice holster. Is that the Heritage with Crossbreed clips? Doesn't look to be much thicker than my G27/VM2.
