new pup

Congrats! The older I get the more I just want to associate with my dogs. Mg wife is dying for another puppy, enjoy the puppy age and take pictures while you can!
3. Awesome!
4. Obviously that was a well done sales pitch for whatever newsletter this guy sells, but he was right on about natural gas right now. I work in an industry that has done well with the natural gas explosion over the past few years. Natural gas, and fracking are huge and that, in my opinion, has done more to the coal industry than any politician.
5. Watched this speech yesterday. Could not agree with him more, truer words have not been spoken in the halls of Congress for a long time. They ring even more true because they are from a man who truly loves what this country is MEANT to be and despises most of what it has been twisted into.
6. If anyone else needs a pack to carry a laptop for work that isn't covered in molle and screams "I'm tacticool, and I have guns!" This pack is it. Great bag so far, has a padded slot for laptops that will fit a 17" computer, as well as a dedicated area for concealed carry that can be accessed from either side of the bag. The pack so far is ultra comfortable and seems to be very well constructed. It has plenty of space for all my work needs, and also covers any thing I need to carry daily. And if you absolutely have to have molle on your pack it has that too, just covered up by a flap that can be rolled down and stored away if you ever need it. All in all, I'm very pleased so far.
7. I've never had a pair, but they are all that my Dad will wear. He works 12 hour days building tug boats. I worked with him for two summers in high school and I can tell you he puts them through any torture test you can imagine. Welding, cutting, grinding, standing in muddy, diesel filled, sloppy water, they take it all. We were very hard up when I was a kid and when it was time for my Dad to get new boots Mom always found a way to make sure they were Red Wings because she knew how hard he worked in them and it was truly the only thing I ever heard my Dad ask for when I was a kid.
8.
There are a lot of AK variants out there, what sort of budget are you working with? What is the rifles intended purpose? (Range toy? SD/HD? Collection piece?) & what sort of configuration are you wanting? Ie folding or fixed stock? Wood or poly furniture? Etc. If you are a bit more specific I am sure either myself or someone else could help point you in the right direction.
Richard, first off thanks in advance for the advice. The rifle would not be for SD/HD as I already have plenty of options there. It would mostly be for range fun and generally just shooting the hell out of it. I'm a bit of a traditionalist with guns and the look of wood furniture and fixed stocks has always caught my eye with AK's. Having said that, I don't mind to work on my guns, converting a Saiga would't be too much of a hassle for me I don't think. And I love a deal! Budget would be whatever is reasonable for something that fits the bill, when it comes to guns I don't mind paying more for something I know will just work and will be quality.
9. I've been stuck on this same fence about Arsenal vs Saiga vs WASR now for a few months. I really want to add an AK to the mix but I don't know enough about them to make a decision I feel good about one way or the other. In on this thread for more info...
10. Obama is off to an early lead...though it is expected to diminish as republicans get off work!
11. Downtowns getting rough these days. Some people don't belong in a functioning society, pants around your knees is always a prime indicator that you are one of those people. Followed closely by the straight bill cap.
12. I have put together 6 of these rifles now. 4 for me and a couple for some buddies. The daily deals get you hooked and find yourself ordering stuff "just cause". I think I am one brown box away from being single again. They are a great product. All of mine have gone together easily and function flawlessly.
13. BJJ...if you have to ask, you can't afford it. Seriously though, the Glock vs 1911 is a silly argument. The Glock vs Hi-Point is not. Especially when your well being may be on the line. Not all martial arts are the same. Any martial art that lacks a ground training element is incomplete in my opinion. And many martial arts are sportive arts masquerading as self defense (I'm looking at you Tae Kwon Do) that could seriously get somebody hurt. I would make the same statement about many of the latest generation of BJJ schools that focus only on competing in tournaments.
14. When purchasing stripped lowers does it factor in how the dealer fills the form out or can a stripped lower be built into a pistol with all the proper paperwork and documentation regardless of how the 4473 is filled out?
15. I understand where you are coming from Tricky. I believe it does come down to personal preference. I don't know that there is really any argument to be made for multiple attackers that would separate one fighting style definitively from all the others. I will say that with Gracie Jiu Jitsu you learn to establish dominant positions in a fight and move forward from there. I feel very comfortable saying I could quickly escape from any position I might find myself in with an untrained guy. At the point his buddies start jumping in I'm either out of there or drawing a weapon. When I started looking for a place to train a few years ago the one thing that set GJJ apart for me was that you actually used it live every time you went in to train. At the end of class you train with another guy, against full resistance and get to feel what it is like to use the techniques on someone who is full on resisting your efforts. I know that if I ever need to use it in a self defense scenario the techniques are there, even under fire. Having said that I 100% agree that people need to find what works for them. Good luck to the OP on finding a good place for you and your family to train. I would encourage you to do your due diligence before settling on a place. There are more than a few stories in the martial arts community of frauds and hacks running schools. I cannot imagine anything worse than giving a group of people instruction that they may need to save their lives one day, knowing all the while that you are a fraud. There are several in operation in Chattanooga now and it makes me sick. In this day and age OP look for independent verification of an instructors credentials. What I mean is, don't rely only on the recommendations of people already in an academy or on the word of the instructor themselves. I don't know because I have never looked but I would almost guarantee there is some sort of Kung Fu/San Soo forum out there. This would be a good place to start to look for credible, unbiased opinions on places to train nearby. Go to several schools, ask to try a few classes out. A guy on the up and up should not have a problem with this. Good luck, let us know what you find!
16. Just out of curiosity Tricky, what makes you choose San Soo over Gracie Jiu Jitsu?
17. Blaster series from Freedom Munitions. Check their website out.
18. This season does seem to be drifting back towards the storyline of the comic. If they keep down that path it will get rough between Michione and the Gov. I also wondered if the big black guy would move into the Tyrese role. Great season so far.
19. That's not really a fair benchmark as I believe Alabama is playing in a league of their own this year. I love to see the Irish playing this well and I love to see them getting better as the season goes on as I believe that is the hallmark of good coaching. But I think the championship is Bama's to lose this year. Right now I believe Notre Dame is the third best team in the country.
20. How bout them Irish!!!!!!!!! 10 point underdogs going into the game too.
21. Second episode was intense. This season is off to a great start.
22. I take ugly wins too...but the Irish need to clean it up before next week or they won't get out of Norman with a win. Now...Roll Tide! Cause I sure do hate the vols!
23. I have worked on the Ocoee every summer since '98. Copper Basin is an interesting part of the world for sure. If you get out off 64 there are still some spots that are ravaged from all the mining that went on up there. They look like the surface of Mars.
24. The kind of people that would riot over this election are the same people that aren't smart enough to make it out of their own neighborhood to do so.
25. I like the way it has started off!
